Mold Lines

Happy New Year everyone!

I have a question that may have been answered before, but I haven't been able to find it. I have difficulty getting rid of flash and mold lines on some figs with intricate detail, such as hair, chainmail, ect. I was wondering how many of you dealt with it. I have a hobby knife, some sculpting tools, a couple sanding sticks and still have difficulty with some of the smaller details, any suggestions?

I usually use an X-Acto Knife blade to scrape them from the detail. So in hair I'll get the blade down in between the strands of hair and scrape up along the sides of the strands. If it is in a place that is hard to get to, I'll use the end of a file to get into it and kind of dig it out. If that doesn't work, I generally just leave it, unless it is some kind of really important detail that will not look good. I've taken a stick pin and sharpened the round end of it to get down into areas to scrape it out.

rat tail files do a good job, also engraving tools can be used with fine detail work, if worst comes to worse cover with green stuff and re sculpt the area.  steveb

I use either a hobby knife or a GW file.

For fine flash between fingers and such I will gently scrape the lines using an x-acto knife, then I dab a little liquid plastic cement on the area. The flash is so thin that the cement readily melts it and it blends into the detail.

I use a hobby knife as well. Soth has some special tools for it though, probably somewhere in the 18th log.
