May 26th: The upgrades to the forum software have been completed, for a list of new features please look here (http://www.warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=28974.msg403228#msg403228).
Unfortunately there were a few bugs caused by the upgrade, there isn't anything too major but please report any you find here. Thanks.
---
May 21st: There will be some planned downtime while the forum software is upgraded on Monday May 25th, at about 4am UTC and may last up to 2 hours.
Some parts of the site may remain working during this time but the forum and any other part of the site that uses information from the forum will likely not work.
We are sorry for any inconvenience.
-
What's UTC in comparison with GMT?
-
Hurray! Update, update! (http://s51.photobucket.com/albums/f399/DLShadowwolf/Smileys/westthumbs.gif)

What's UTC in comparison with GMT?
Because of daylight savings there is a one hour difference, so this will happen at 5am GMT.
-
Oh, that's cool. I'll still be asleep. Should be getting up just as it finishes, actually. :icon_lol:
-
Thanks for the warning Calvin, most appreciated. :icon_cool: :::cheers:::
-
Does that mean the gallery will be up and running again?
-
Not right away, but this is a first step in that process.
-
How do we survive for a whole two hours?
I may actually have to spend time in the "real" world...
-
Well, that took longer than planned , but it's the upgrades are finally done. I'll go over some of the bigger changes in a bit but for now I have a bit more tweaking to do.
-
At least it's working!
It'll take me a while to get used to this new look though. :icon_lol:
-
Indeed to both Meighrrick's comments.
-
I'm trying to get it looking more like before right now actually.
Unfortunately the old theme wasn't compatible with this new version of the forum software.
-
Ah, that makes sense.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it! :-P
-
Hey! It looks more normal!
-
Mhm i'm getting some problems.
Got massive white and black paces in odd places...
-
It's funny watching the theme change as i'm browsing the forum.
-
This is Obi- I'm on Brionnes' laptop and can't log-out. I really have to get used to this new theme.... It's much smaller.
-
@ Inarticulate
Could you tell me what browser and version you are using?
@Brionne/Obi
So, when you click on the log out link, what happens? Also, how do you mean smaller, the page is narrower (it should be) or the text is smaller and hard to read (it shouldn't). Also please post your browser and version too.
-

Anyone else getting this problem?
-
Hiya Calvin
Just getting used to the new layout.
Couple of things I have spotted ...........
Wide pics are determining the whole width of a thread - rather than having a slide bar in the post as before.
When drafting a post - as I am doing now - the outline of the posting box is missing on two sides - bottom and right.
I assume the other little tweaks, like 'bolded' stickies, last post tag in the right column of the thread listings, and the 'tree' list at the bottom of threads will come along at some stage.
-
@Merrick it looks to me like you've still got the told (incompatible) theme for some reason. I've reset it again for everyone but it you are still getting that problem please go to your profile and check under "look and layout" to see what theme you are using.
@Midaski Thanks for pointing those out. I hope to get most of the little bugs in this worked out over the next day or two. I'm not going to stress too much over tiny details though because I expect our old theme will be updated by the developer at some point soon.
-
Ah, gottit.
Changed now, cheers! :::cheers:::
-
Just a quick piece of constructive feedback ... the previous way of having the stickies slightly highlighted made it easier to tell them from the other posts.
-
I'm liking the new layout. There may still be some bugs, but I find it overall a good change.
Cheers,
-Shadoweyed
-
Calvin - Using Google Chrome (Ftw) that a problem?
-
It's great to see the forum get a little better ever time you look! Great work! :eusa_clap: Keep it up!

Oh, Calvin, the "read last post in this thread" function seems to be gone from the board overview

Pay attention guys .............

The tree at the bottom of threads has already been done.
Back on the width thing - I have noticed if you scroll to the very bottom, or the very top, there is a black area .......
the header and footer boxes are a set width, and the thread width is being controlled by the widest pic posted somewhere on the page.
See Wiss' "grand tour" thread for example.
-
EDIT: forgot to sign in to my main account...
@Inarticulate
It's not a problem, it just lets me know what browser to use to recreate the problem, and then I can diagnose it.
@All,
Keep posting any problems you find, and I'll try to deal with them asap.

True, and not that I wanted to repeat another persaon's post, but perhaps another voice chiming in shows the importance of an item. :icon_wink: :icon_cool:

I cannot upload a different avatar picture. It says it is too big, yet it is only 38K.
Phil
-
That avatar problem should be fixed now. It was a problem with the actual forum source code, luckily there's a patch available to fix it. :-)
-
I just tried the avatar again and got this:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ELSE in /home/warh3897/public_html/theforum/Sources/Subs-Graphics.php on line 227
Phil
-
Another wierd thing:
For me, the box containing the forum (Everything below "Hello Moxer you have x messages...) is shifted to the right. I have to scroll to read posts, it looks like the forumbox got "dragged" to the right (and slightly up, the lines "Show new replies to your posts" and the navigation line are on top of each other)
Edit: Using Firefox
-
I now have the option to perform 'moderation' while logged on on my mobile.
The option is good, but I don't trust myself on such a little screen.

noticed it too. only allows post edits though.

Just for the record, I find the name of the poster is adjusting the width of the Avatar part of the post, which makes for a little confused reading when scrolling downwards.
Otherwise, great work!!! Yay!!! :::cheers:::

I just noticed it too. I hate that on other forums...
-
Just to add to things, or say something again, not sure if it has been mentioned, whilst using Google Chrome, the background is centered fine, but all the main boxes are all shifter over to the right so that I have about 6 inches gap to the left of the screen and have to scroll over to see stuff.
On Internet Explorer it works just fine.

I was about to say that. It's very annoying. I've switched to firefox just to post this.
-
Is there still a 'mark all posts as read' link? I can't find one.
-
Is there still a 'mark all posts as read' link? I can't find one.
Yes. It's on the bottom of the list now.
EDIT: it's on the top and bottom in each forum but in the bottom only in the unread posts list.
-
But there isn't one on the main forum page that marks everything as read at once?
-
But there isn't one on the main forum page that marks everything as read at once?
I didn't know there ever was was - I never noticed it there I guess. Just click on the unread posts and select the option at the bottom of that list.
-
I've never used that unread posts option before! But that does work, so thanks.
-

Really? That's my default page on this site!
-
Here's a rundown of new features on the forum:
- WYSIWYG editor to provide an intuitive user interface to those users not familiar with BBCode.
Click the "A" button when making a post to switch to this view, also can be enabled by default in your profile. You can also "pull down" the posting box to make it longer, this makes it a lot easier to edit longer posts.
- File based caching for a performance increase on all forums regardless of whether an accelerator is installed.
Tech speak for the forum should be faster and have less downtime.
- Option to ignore certain boards in profile.
Lets you ignore boards on the forum, great for people who don't like the Back Table or have no interest in the Parade Ground. Please be careful with what you ignore though as you might end up missing something you wish you hadn't!
- Mail queuing system to stagger the sending of emails to improve performance on large forums.
In the past we have wanted to send out newsletters or emails to the site members, however this has been impossible because our host limits the number of emails sent in an hour and so trying to send something to all 6500 of you would crash the site. Now we can set up the site to only send out X number of emails per hour and reach everyone without any issues.
- Personal messaging improvements including ability to automatically sort incoming messages and a variety of display options.
More options for your PMs!
- Custom profile fields to enable administrators to add additional member fields from the administration center.
Lets us have more information shown in the profiles. Right now I have put in a "Bio" section. If anyone has other ideas for things to add just let me know here.
These are just the main changes that affect site members, there are also lots of other great administration upgrades that will allow us to work more efficiently and improve the site even more.
-
The display issues in Safari and Chrome should now be fixed.
-
Just went into Chrome to check and it's all looking good.
Thanks Calvin. :::cheers:::
-
Awesome! It's prefect indeed! Great job Calvin!

-EDIT-
About the ignoring thing- will, say, ignoring the Count's Tavern automatically ignore the BT too?
-
I find most of the changes to be interesting. But I can't help but feel the Forums, such as the Brush and Palet, when looking at the main list of topics, it looks a bit big and clunky ... Will that be changed?
-
This theme is mostly temporary, until the one we were using before gets updated by the author (or something even better come along).
-

I would say so.
Ignoring boards I think does lead to some areas possibly becoming stagnant though, so I'm not sure how good an option this is...
-
Actually they're counted as separate for the purposes of ignoring.
I actually wouldn't recommend using the ignore feature much... I think most of its use will come from those people who really dislike the Back Table.
-
Well, the site works at home, but not at work. I use IE at both locations. I checked to make sure my internet settings were correct, and they are fine. I have no idea what the problem could be. Perhaps it's just a fluky thing. There are a few sites I can no longer access for whatever reason. Note, they don't actually block anything where I work, so that's not the issue. I'd imagine they'd want to block youtube and facebook before W-E. I hope...

I imagine your work traffic to W-E is greater than the traffic to Youtube and Facebook combined....
-
Well, yes. However, I hope that my volume doesn't outweigh everyone's traffic to those two sites. :icon_lol:
-
I just got back in town. The forum is different.
It's like coming home to your room redecorated. :-o
-
Ahem! :icon_evil:
I've been having a connection issue, it pops up everyday, for about 15-20 minutes at a time. I get a "SMF connection error (don't have an SS quite yet).
I know it's not just me, cause Ben couldn't connect at the same time. I've tried all 4 of my browsers.
-
Yep, me too... around 2pm every day.
-
Me too -
"Connection Problems
Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later. "
I am getting this on a regular basis the last few days - generally early evening UK time.
:icon_question:
-
Same here during the day.
-
Whilst we're discussing problems - I am still suffering from width issues.
Some posts with large pics in them are creating a slide bar across the whole page - not just in the post area as before.
At the bottom of the page the column width does not 'grow' and so the words 'previous / next ' are hidden in a black area.
The link boxes are still there as the mouse will change as you scroll across the blackness .............
I've tried looking at profile - look and layout, but if it is a settings problem on my PC I cannot find it.
Anyone else seeing this?
-
Yes, I as well.
Watch out for your 5k marker!
-
Other width problems: some users with a long username actually move their posts to the left so the name can go on one line. (But funny enough this does not happen with the posts of Karl Voss, above...)
-
Ah yes, I've noticed this as well...
-
Like clockwork, I was down again around 2pm. Strange.
-
Indeed. Happens at around 5, then at around 8 my time as well.
-
Ah yes, I've noticed this as well...
Yeah, me too. I think it's because Karl has spaces and hagen and soth have underscores.
-
Good work Calvin. :::cheers:::
One problem though is I just tried to change my Avatar and it won't have it. Any ideas?
-
Keep your avatar ?
-
Tried changing back to and that didnee work
