That assumes that the price of goldswords is reasonable -- which they are not.

THAT assumes that your version of reason is the correct one -- which it is not.

I agree about the production quality of Dreadfleet, which is why I bought it.

well lets see I've played space hulk about 10 times now and am trying to write up rules for including other models like gaunts, regular marines, imp guard and so forth  pretty fun game really with a bit more tweaking it can be loads of fun more than GW ever anticipated.
Keep us posted on what you come up with, I"d be interested in these!

Quote
About the only thing I can say about dread fleet at the moment is that the models look cheesy, cartoonishly implausible, over exaggerated, and trite.  What makes a game fun isn't the models, its the rules, with a good set of rules you can have triangular blocks of single color painted wood to represent the ships and it would still be fun.
I can understand this, but at $115 I'd like to be sure I enjoy the rules before spending that amount.

I played Space Hulk first, then bought it.  The same will go for Dreadfleet, and I'm not in a rush.

It is for him.

That said, I think I'll buy Dreadfleet. I'll decide when holding the box.

Well, my point was that he was comparing it to something else that people complained about (a lot), which wasn't really going to help his argument. If he had compared it to the price of something that more people saw as a good value, it would have helped make the point more effectively.

I do not think GW greatswords are low value, but dirt cheap Mantic crap for instance is low value no matter the cost.

Goldswords are waaay too expensive.
Mantic are cheap nice sculpts.

Dreadfleet is something I will purchase, if I don't like how it will play I will flog it on eBay for a fortune with all the minis nicely painted.
There's always some sucker for a nicely painted anything on eBay.

Gold swords are expensive yes.

But I agree 100% with my lord of shadows on the mantic issue. We are painting a large orc force for show in the store, and man they are fricking ugly. I wouldn't want those mantic models even if they were free.

If Shadowlord hasn't hit puberty yet then God save us all when he does.

I may be in a minority here but I quite like the look of Dreadfleet and will more than likely be making a purchase.

It's the Hypno Toad at work!

As far as Dreadfleet; probably won't get it.  Has potential I'm sure but I'm not really a fan of the look and it's a bit above my price threshold.

Mantic Orcs are shit.
Well thats not entirely true - I just hate the Jordy la Forge head.
Not sure about their other models - haven't really looked in great detail.

Well the goldswords are incredibly well done and I think they are good enough that people buy them despite the price tag....so they are priced about right (capitalistic Fandir enjoys posting this post).

They are extremely nive but too expensive, according to me. Regardless of anything, most of GW:s prices are daylight robbery and the quality of sculpts do not change that fact. The material is still cheap plastic.
Now, I do allow myself to be robbed by GW now and then, I am just very, very cautious about when and were.  :engel:

Oh, and remember GW made it personal, not you!

Got my greatswords in the brigade set, overall much lower price and got my bestigors on ebay for 50% off. I wouldn't have bought either full price. But then maybe I'm not a good example as I'm really very stingey.

I wish people would stop calling them with the gold in there though, it really bugs me for some reason.

Anyways, that dreadfleet game thing looks a bit over the top to me, but that's not really that surprising if one looks at the latest ogre monsters etc. Seems like an ok price for all you get though.

Capitalistic Gneisenau agrees.

Though I can say with certainty that if they were cheaper (e.g. 20 Euro per box instead of 30), I would have bought five boxes instead of the two I have. Because they are very good.

Don't do it! You won't look as cool in front of JN and Midaski as you do when you bash evil GW.

Got the box and it is a daunting project - lots of detailed miniatures and terrain to be painted. I just hope the game is worth the time spent on painting all of the pieces.

You could always play a trial game with unpainted pieces first.

I tried it yesterday.
We played 3v3 with a ship each.

We just tried to kill each other, since i were the only one knowing the rules, so no scenario. The mechanics are quite good i think. They remind me of Battlefleet gothic.
There are a lot of special rules though, which you have to practice by playing some games.
The evil ships are really nasty with their special powers!

Mine is in the mail, so I should get it next week.  Though it technically is a birthday present, so I may have to wait 2 weeks to open it

I have 40 bestigor, but I only bought one box full price.  The others I got on The Herdstone at around $20 per 10.  I wouldn't have bought them had they not been so cheap and never would have discovered how awesomely nasty they are.

Which is a shame because I do recall nagging about them.

I have played dreadfleet this weekend.  It was surprisingly decent, and in a lot of ways similar to gothic.  The models are really good.  £70 good, im not sure on though  :-D
Seems the plan of the owner is to paint it up to a high standard and sell it in the long term.  In the short term, my groups going to play it for a while.
