LOST UNIT
Chapter 1 Wrong Way
The Empire swordsman piled through yet another unit of goblin scum. Their swords long ago covered with the blood of their enemies. They had penetrated so deep into the enemy ranks that they could barely see the banners marking the Emperial Line. The men slowed their pace a little only attacking goblins who wondered in too close. They had been separated from the rest of the unit early on in the battle. William George the sergeant of the unit looked back towards the Empire lines shaking his head in disbelief. They had penetrated all the way to the rear of the enemy basically unnoticed. William was about to order a charge with the remaining 13 swordsman when something went terribly wrong. The Empire line wavered, broke, and ran. William couldn't believe his eyes, the Elector Count leading the army might have thought it better to continue the fight from a nearby castle is all William could think of.

William snapped back to reality not a moment to soon. A large goblin unit had noticed them and started charging in, WIlliam was about to order a charge into the goblins, but looking around 14 to 100+ without reinforcements was suicide. He ordered the retreat to the relief of his men, The swordsman easilly out distanced & out maneuvered the goblins. Finally after making sure the goblins had lost their trail the men sat down for a well deserved rest. William pulled out a map which had been issued to him before the battle began. After looking at it and the surrounding area he had no clue where they where. All he knew was they where in some woods on the mountain side. William ordered for 3 if his men to guard around the area, and to keep a watchful eye out for the goblins. As soon as the order left his mouth goblins came charging in from all directions. William managed to get his men into a defensive circle at the last moment.

The Goblin spearmen came in hard hooting and howling! The initial surprise that the goblins had was lost immediately. The goblin unit numbered over 20 but 5 where dead within a minute. One raised a horn too call for reinforcements but William brought his sword down on its head slicing the horn in two in the process. The goblin unit turned to flee but William knew if any got away it would spell their doom. He ordered the swordsman to chase them down, after a few more minutes every goblin was dead or dying.

A dying Goblin in front of William started laughing! William grabbed the goblin easily lifting it from the ground, and demanded what was so funny. The goblin stopped briefly and said, "you'zz wil dye soon we spltzz up t find'zz you'zz! You'zz in r landz now stupid humie...." William had heard enough anyways he dropped the dead corpse and turned to his men. "I fear we have come down the wrong side of the mountains!"

  Lost Unit (Lost)

William looked at his map again before finally coming to the conclusion that the only way out & that was back the way they came.  He looked to his 13 loyal swordsman who knew the answer before he told them.  They ranked up and started and started on their way, it had not taken them long for them to notice they were being followed.  They  tried quickening their pace but they simply couldn’t shake their pursuers.  William ordered them to brake from the path and head to a narrow passage.  He had all the men lay down in a line and wait for his que.

Just as they got into position the goblins came around the corner into the narrow passage.  This unit was bigger then the last numbering around 50 goblins.  William knew they where on to them ordered the charge.  The valiant swordsman jumped up in the mist of the marching unit killing 10 of the goblins right off.  But the surprise was lost and the skirmish evened out.  Again the swordsman formed a circle shield wall.  The goblins relentlessly through themselves upon the disciplined swordsman.  After 10 minutes of un-ended fighting the goblin numbers had been more then halved.  They launched one last assault focusing on only one side of the circle.  The men there were overwhelmed by sheer numbers and gave ground 1 of the men getting wounded in the process.  Finally the goblins were thrown back they retreated.  William ordered his men to hold 3 had been wounded and needed care.  Thirty-five goblin corpses lay strewn around the narrow passage.  The men marched another mile before setting camp for the night.  They built a small fire between two big rocks so it wouldn’t attract unwanted guest.  William placed 1 sentry at each side of the rocks and had the men rotate shifts.  Surprisingly no enemies attacked during the night.

The men started off early the next day making great progress, but to Williams dismay he saw goblins tracks more than a couple of times.  As the men were almost to the sight of the battle the previous day where it all started, they saw the remaining goblins that had chased them the previous day.  these goblins were bigger then normal goblins.  Some were bigger then a few of the swordsman. (big-un’s)  William had the men form a wedge to attempt to brake through the massed body of goblins.  Just as they were about to plow into the goblin unit their unit leader stepped forward and demanded to fight William.  William ordered his men to halt he stepped forward and got into a fighting position.  The goblin charged in swinging sideward with its sword, William brought his shield down to intercept.  The sword hit the shield and launched William off to the side.  He looked back to his men his look speaking volumes about how hard this goblin could hit.  William charged in his sword going down in a deadly diagonal  arc, only to be blocked by the goblins shield.  After a few minutes of intense fighting William brought his sword side-long to fast for the goblin to react.  The sword took off the goblins head cleanly.  The goblins looked around confused not knowing to run or fight.  William seeing this ordered the swordsman to charge.  Right as the swordsman charged in the goblin unit flew into complete chaos and scattered many getting slain in the process.  Finally all the goblins were dispersed four men had wounds which could become fatal if not treated immediately.  After-getting all wounds taken care of William ordered the men to set up camp again tomorrow they would head to the castle.

Yeah, excellent. Can't wait for chapter 2.
You can give a man a sword, but that won't make him a soldier.
You can give a man a pen, but that won't make him a writer.

What I think depends upon what level you are at with your writing, i.e. how much you have written before. If this is a first-time writing, then it is good and I can only encourage you to continue.
EDIT: see Africa for more examples ...
