Hello,
I am from Germany and just started a new Empire project. I sold all my GW stuff shortly, but than I wanted to paint something and started a new army :eusa_wall:
I am a fan of the old spearmen, so my first pictures are some of them. I do not have much time for painting, but I hope to get motivatet by posting the progress. Therefore updates will take some time.
I do not really have a background for that army yet. But it will be something from near the border to Bretonnia as I will mix some Breton parts to the army. Sometime I want also build some scenery, but this is far away yet.
So, here are some pics. I hope You like them. I try to paint everyone in an other color and give them a realistic look. Not sure if they look realistic, but I am quite satisfied with them

Welcome! :::cheers:::
I really like your minis, the different colours make them look very dynamic! Especially since you chose the old spearmen, they lend themselves very well to this sort of "mixmatched" unit!
Great work!
-
Very nice indeed. They're gonna look great as a big unit, and amazing as an army. Keep going and keep posting!
-
Great Landsknecht look on these cleanly converted pikemen.
What specially caught my eye was how you've painted their armour. Looks really good.
-Z
-
You're off to a good start, how large will your unit of pikemen be? I like the older spearmen too, I think that they rank up easier. What are you palns for expansion if any? Low tech with bows and crossbows, minimal cannons and knights or high tech with handguns, hellblasters, and demigryphs?
-
Nice job. I prefer non-black shades, but the visual effect is really intensive, it works.
Nice job also with conversions; you've achieved to change their heads pretty fine. For me, their pikes are a little bit long, but, in any case, it works again!
But if I can give you some advice, I would chose a unique colour scheme for your army. If you do that, then your troops will be more integrated, in a unit level, and in the enterely army level.
And welcome to the forum! :::cheers:::
-
Hi, thank You for Your comments,
the armour is actually painted really simple, just a layer boltgun metal followed by chainmal, black shade and a then a little mithril silver brushing.
These four guys are experimental objects more or less. They where the first ones and I had finished them already, then I decided to paint them a little different and then I swapped the spears. And everything while they where standing at this 40x40 base, as I was scared to break their feet, trying to remove them. :eusa_wall:
So all in all, the next ones will hopefully be a little cleaner. :icon_biggrin:
The pikes seem to be very long at the pictures , in real this effect is less intensive. But I know what You mean. In the end I orientated the length by literature. In real they would be about 6m long.
Black shading can look very hard and I am also not always pleased with it, but especially in case of the old Spearmen I thing it gives the slightly plump minis more depth. (still they belong to my favourites )
I have about 50 Spearmen so far. After them I have about 50 Swordsmen to paint. I also have some handgunners. I have to admit, I do not have a real plan yet. I would love a very big colorful Pike regiment, so maybe this one will get bigger.
As I played Bretons before my broat tactical understanding confines to: Men at arms to the right, Men at arms to the left, cavalry attack. And do not bother me with this odd bows or other wide range weapons=> very suspect
I like cavalry, so there will be lots of them. I think the new tactic is: Pikeman to the left, Swordsmen to the right, cavalry attack :-D and maybe something with blackpowder. I like steamtanks=> iron cavalry.
Now I wrote everything confused, sorry.
Ahh, the unique colour scheme. There will be a garde du corps with a unique scheme, but for the rest I am too much in this renaissance mercenary thing.
Btw. pics of two knights:

By the old gods and the new!!
What a beatiful and deteiled work on that armours! :eusa_clap:
-
Im very impressed :eusa_clap: if you do a cavalry heavy force with that level of detail on all the models Id be speechless.
-
sweet work sir
-
That horse armour is the best I've seen. My own attempts (partially due, perhaps, to my stubborn continued use of enamels, and partly due to my hand getting more wobbly as I age) are embarrassing in comparison.
Marvellous stuff.
-
Very nice - I like the German Rennaisance elements in particular. And fab idea with the pikes. I am using actual 28mm Landsknechts for my own Empire army.
-
Excellent work indeed! A very Renaissance feel, and the detail on the knight's armour is amazing.
-
Incredible freehand technique. Great work and truly inspiring!
-
Plus: the Empire AB should have had pikes.
-
Great-looking stuff! :::cheers::: I really like the heraldry on the Knight on barded horse, beautiful work!
-
your is ery alternative work! I love knight of sunrise, pikes There are beautiful too, but There aren't sono much long?
-
Thank You again for Your comments.
The barding is not finished yet. The eagle and the hessean lion need some more detail work.
My plan is to paint every knight in this style. With bright heraldry and/ or detailed armour. A neverending project.
The next pics of the spearmen will be from another perspective, then You hopefully can see the relation between men and weapon better.
But as I have no time at the moment, unfortunately there is no progress.
-
Looks great! The army is off to an awesome start. More, more!
-
A very little update. I think the last for the next three weeks, as I will not be at home in this time. 3 wip minis. Two spearmen and the standart bearer.

this one should be the second.
-
Very nice, they look great especially the guy in the middle. I like your multi-colored style.
-
I love the guy in the middle too.
-
Your attention to details is astounding. Impressive work. :)
-
Again a very little update. One spearmen and the standart bearer finished last week. Without the flag of course. :icon_wink:

But I thought a little about the background of my army. I will built a little village on an Island in a river, while I am not at home at the moment I cannot paint, so I can think of other issues. The village will be the residence of my commander. As I said in my first post, it will be a space near the breton border, and it has to be a river, so the options for the location get less. Maybe between Nuln and Bugmans brewery.
I will post some drawings as soon as I have something worth showing.
I do not want to represent one of the great areas of the empire, as I would like too invent my own little background. My little commander does not have a standing army, instead of his guard, the only non multi colored unit in the army.
So everyone else is a mercenary and therefore there is no uniform color scheme.
In my thoughts the commander (no name yet and I think Panama is not that scary or sublime :-D ) calls to the arms in case of danger and his people follow him, what is quite bretonnian like. On the other hand he has his well trained guard and some very well equipped and trained knights, lots of well equipped and trained knights  Dont no from where he gets them yet, maybe some are from his household, some are befriended and accompany him at war. And I think I need some black powder. I cannot shut my eyes from progress completely.
But that are just some loose ideas.
Mhmm, have some ideas for my island village, need to get a pen now :-D
I am really open for background and location ideas. I have the loose construct above, but some input never harms :icon_biggrin:
Looking forward to hearing from You.
-
Really like the way this army looks.
-
Just drawed a little idea of how the residence could look. Not really a village an an island, but it is just a first idea. I need more time :-( ahh...

Your knight is just amazing, realy wow, i wish i could do something like that!
-
That freehand armour is just sick - I wish I had the skills to pull off something like that! :eusa_clap:
-
Just drawed a little idea of how the residence could look.
I really like that.
-
Just adding my two bits - freakin beautiful Knights. I love the colours on the pikemen as well. They look great. Oh yay - nice artwork as well. I like your design.
-
Thank You for Your comments. I finally managed to paint a little bit. Not as much as I would like to, but...
I did a little at my standart bearer. Not finished, but better then the last time.

Hello,
here is a little update.
Two horses that I have started to convert.
While doing this, a anecdote of my Commander came to my mind.
As I wrote in an older post his residence is located near the bretonnian border.
So one sunny day he was on road in the border lands, riding his Imperial armoured Shetland- Warpony :biggriin:. Suddenly he met a bretonian knight . There was no war and no anger so everything was all right. But he remembered even the bretonnian warhorse laughing at him, this tall guy on this tiny horse, all way home :x .
So the next day he gave all Warponys to his farmers and bought real warhorses.
:icon_wink:

On top of that I always liked different style influences in my armys. Like Kislev or Arabia. So I decided to include an Regiment of Arabia in my army. It will consist of converted High elf archers and spearmen (Got a sealed box of spearmen for 7Euros on a public bidding site :icon_eek: :icon_biggrin:) The regiment will include a litter with a arabian prince or princess, not sure abaout that yet.
I already started to construct the litter from scratch.

Looking like a cool model! :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

Im looking forward to seeing the Araby troops, and the pony story it was funny.
-
Look at Hasslefree miniatures for Harem girls which could be used as a princess.
-
This guy makes for a good prince. The cross-legged fellow is separate from the cushioned seat.

I love those Perry figures! :icon_biggrin: :::cheers:::

Hello,
it has been a while but I did some minor updates.
Thank You for Your ideas with arab princes and princesses.
I just bought this reaper guy. He stands in front of his litter and talks to the imperial soldier.
I am not sure what I want here. So I am still open for ideas.
What I know is that I am not that much into harem girls on the battlefield. My soldiers need to focus on the enemy, not on half naked haslefree girls. :-D Whish does not meen that I am against arab princesses at the battlefield at all

I think this is much better than green. But still a lot to do.
(http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e117/Panamata/Empire/20170115_153607_zps60avrq8n.jpg) (http://s38.photobucket.com/user/Panamata/media/Empire/20170115_153607_zps60avrq8n.jpg.html)
I also started to convert some first rank spearmen. Not much to say about these guys.
I also did some progress with my cavallerie and more spearmen but I have no pics yet.
As the pleasent suprise has priority the next real updates here will be about end of June I think.
Best regards
-
Mhmm, posted to quick. I thought about the reaper prince. But then I imagined the arabic guy standing in front of his litter being welcomed by a imperial soldier.
The pics seem to be a little to big. I dont know how to fix that. I thought photobucket does this for me :engel:
-
Those pikes are sweet, I look forward to seeing the completed test unit. Im also have the same issue with photobucket and big pictures.
-
Wow! Your freehand work is ridiculous (ly good). :-)
-
Those are some very impressive models indeed. I could never commit myself to such an endeavour even if I had the skill, which I'm far from having.
About the background of the army, I'd think that to fit a properly sized island in a river, it'd have to be somewhere far down the Reik for the river to be wide enough. Somewhere not far from Marienburg would put it as close as possible to Bretonnia as well. Since that part of the Reik is the border between Reikland and Middenland, that gives me an idea.
How about: Herr von Panama (placeholder name) was of noble birth but from a cadet branch of a cadet branch, and thus the last guy in his branch to actually be landed was five generations above him. As is common for noblemen in such a situation, he went for a military career, in which his success brought him some amount of riches, but something else too. On campaign, he encountered and noticed the Arabyan Tajir ibn al-Tajir (another placeholder name), a minor trader of untapped business genius. With Herr von Panama providing startup capital and Tajir using it to conduct business from Marienburg while Herr von Panama was out warring, they were soon filthy rich. Rich enough that they could have retired to live the decadent life, but Herr von Panama had aspirations for more, to be a landed noble again. He remembered having seen a number of times an archipelago in the Reik river some distance upriver from Marienburg, approximately where the ill-defined border between the Wasteland and the Empire is usually considered to be. The islands were lush and fertile and he wondered why nobody had ever settled them. He set out to find out who the islands belonged to. What he found out was interesting indeed. Neither Reikland nor Middenland claimed them. On the contrary, the fiefdom and land ownership registries of both electorates simply assumed the islands belonged to the other. Seeing an opportunity, he simply moved in and claimed the islands for himself. Rather than fight for others, he decided to gather around his most loyal veterans and settle them on the islands as his own private military company. His knights were granted fiefs. His infantrymen were granted rent-free use of farmland while not campaigning. Given this arrangement, the islands are really an aristocratic vanity and a money sink for him, but Tajir manages business and keeps the money to pay for it rolling it, as well as acts as regent for the islands when Herr von Panama is out warring. Lending his privately funded company to the service of the Empire, he managed to accumulate such a reputation and such an amount of goodwill that when the legal status of his islands eventually was found out, Karl Franz and Boris Todbringer just decided to let him be and kept pretending not to notice.
-
Holy crap Konrad!
What a great fluff background. Panama! , take this and run 😺
-
Love what you've done to the Bret/Empire horses! Must try something similar myself.
Great idea for background, Konrad!
-Z
-
Great backstory. Really enjoyed reading that one. :)
-
Unfortunately we do not have ymileys with heart eyes here.
Thank You very much Konrad. What You imagined is brilliant :biggriin:
I really like what You imagined, especially because it includes many aspects I allready thought about for my army.
The position of the island is a new one. I allways imagined it further in the south, but You are right, to get such a big island it has to be located where the Reik is pretty wide.
And I really like how You included it into the border discussion between Reikland and Middenland. It fits very well.
I have to drive by train for several hours next weekend and I am really looking forward to think of some more details of this story.
And the guy needs a name.
I will call him Friedrich. It is my second name and sounds very Empire like.
The only thing that I always saw different in my minds eye, is that he built up his castle completely on his own.
I always saw a ruin, left far ago, keeping some secrets. And Friedrich rebuilt it.
But that would also fit perfect into it I think. Looking forward to arse around some more story frazzle. :icon_biggrin:

From the looks of it, they are a mix of GW WFB figures, mainly 6th edition, with large amounts of converting and kitbashing having been done, partly using complementary 7th edition plastics.

Yes You are right. But it is not that much of conversion. Head swap and a long Pike are the main things. And for the first rank ones, simply 6th edition bodys with actual edition arms.
Hopefully I will be able to continue here, after I finish my pleasent suprise nect week.
-
Those Empire/Landsknecht pike-men look really cool. Not sure about having charging on front rank. Makes the figures hard to front up against the enemy. Many many moons ago when I used to play ECW I sold off all pike and charge to replace with upright pikes. So much easier to put models in base contact and reduces repair work after the wargame.
Multi colours on figures looks great, just need large unit 50 to 100 strong, should hold the centre for a while.
-
Thank You scrubber.
I actually exactly have 100 of them. But it will take 5 livetimes to paint them :engel:
I had exactly the same concerns with the pikes but I will solve the problem by giving them a large regiment base which is long enough to allow other regiments to reach the base. I will place some casualities and material on it.
I did some clear progress with my litter and my general, Friedrich von Eichenfels (I like this name, I think this will be his name. Full Version: Rittmeister Friedrich, Freiherr von Eichenfels). Rittmeister is a German/Austrian rank in former imperial forces. Its like a captain of the cavallerie. This is his official rank he officiates when he fights in Karl Franzs army. Freiherr is the rank of nobility. It means he owns land and is his own lord, subjected to King and Emperor. And Eichenfels is the handed name of the island, he built his residence on. Inspired by the great small storys by Sergeant Henry and the name greatly inspired by Manfred, Freiherr von Richthofen, better known as Red Baron.
I would really like to post some new pictures but first I have to solve the Photobucket problem :icon_rolleyes:
-
I just remembered this thread again. If you want there to have been a ruin already on the island that Eichenfels used as a basis for his residence, well, how about the following variation on the story I came up with:
There was once, during the reign of Emperor Dieter IV, a family named von Streber (placeholder name). They were upjumped Marienburger merchants who tried to buy their way into the nobility. As part of their efforts, they had bought a particular archipelago some distance upriver from Marienburg, and made it into their estate, erecting Schloss von Streber on the main island. Vanity comes before fall though, and when the von Streber family went bankrupt, the estate was confiscated by the Marienburger Bürgerlijke Bank (placeholder name) for unpaid debts. At the time, WAAAGH! Grom had just devastated the Empire and the resulting economic downturn had crashed the real estate market, so the bank decided to hold on to the estate while waiting for the market to recover.
Soon after, the secession of Marienburg happened. In the resulting peace settlement, the land borders between Marienburg and Reikland, and Marienburg and Middenland, were defined, but no border was drawn across the river. The Marienburg Land Registry concluded, from its interpretation of the treaty, that the estate is outside the sovereign territory of Marienburg. For the bank, figuring out what to do about it was put off for the future. Before long, everyone at the bank who knew about the matter had retired or died, and the land deed laid forgotten in a dusty archive. Schloss von Streber lays abandoned and is ruined by neglect.
Fast forward to a bit before present day. Marienburger Bürgerlijke Bank itself goes bankrupt. At this time, Tajir has settled in Marienburg to do business with Eichenfels's money while he's out warring. Tajir buys up the assets of the bank on the cheap from the liquidation. Among them, he rediscovers the land deed to the islands. He sets out to figure the legal status of the islands, and finds out that none of the three states claim them, that all three states' land registries believe they belong to one of the other two. And from there on, this variation joins up with the original idea.

I agree. This shows that you are a true RP-er, as this is a fine RPG-worthy material. :smile2:

An interesting addition. :icon_cool: :eusa_clap:
By the way, who said the Old World was dead? :icon_wink:

I don't know guys, somehow ideas come smoothly to me when I'm provided a few fixed points to work with. If I'm required to come up with something entirely from scratch though, I'm clueless.

Really nice Konrad, I love Your stories. I have to imagine some more points for You to feed Your imagination

Just add [ img ] and [ /img ] (without the spaces) on either side of the image address.

Did not work :|
Why does everything with this pictures have to be so complicated :eusa_wall:
The fact that I am totally useless with PCs does not make it better.

You're right. It's stopped working. Weird. It worked before.

Or has it worked? I can see one of my two attempts now. Can you?
-
I see it and it’s bloody worth it! Magnificent!

I see nothing. However this is different from the other thread, where I saw the photobucket ‘upgrade account’ picture. Here its just nothing.
-
It does work, for a while (an hour or so) and then it disappears. Dropbox, not Ph'buck. Weird.

Hello,
as I decided to change my preferences, I am going to sell my knights.
I do not know if this is the right platform to post this, but I think here are lots of enthusiasts who could use the parts. As I am still not able to post pictures in here, I just copied the link to ebay kleinanzeigen. There You can see the pictures But, if somebody is interested, he can write me also here in the forum.
If this is not allowed here in the forum I apologize in advance.
https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-anzeige/warhammer-ritter-imperium-bretonen-megaset-ueber-25-stueck/775245058-249-5316
Price is basis for negotiation. Please ask for international shipping.
The Text in english:
Dear Imperium / Breton Generals,
With a heavy heart, I sell my favorite project out of total lack of time.
I intended to build not less than the most splendid and hottest cavalry regiment in the Old World.
As a collector of both the Bretons and the Empire I have always had the desire to build combinations of colorful Breton heraldry and heavy armor. So I started to equip Breton horses with Imperial armor and to combine the riders to get a varied regiment of humans.
You have here now the unique opportunity to collect my collected Bretons and Imperials, including lots of matching Bitz.
In detail:
25 horses (Imperial / Breton knights, rifle rider, orkanium / Luminarium, chaos (the new ones), 1 out of pewter not from GW)
at least body for also 25 riders (Bitz should be enough for more)
Pile of arms, helmets, shields and more Bitz of the Breton and Imperial Knights
1 metal knight on foot
Old Emperor of pewter
...
As you can see on the pictures some parts are partly painted and a knight is already finished. There is a metal knight on foot, whom I wanted to place next to a fallen horse.
ATTENTION: The single painted knight with the colorful heraldry, left on the first photo, is no longer availiable.
Take a look at the pictures.
Such a set of no longer available parts you will probably not find again.
I hope someone shares my love for the heavy knights of the old world and builds a cavalry regiment out of the pieces, that shakes the earth of the Old World.
Best regards
Nils

I'm saddened to read that you feel you have to abandon this project. It is truly an example of the hobby at its best, in all its aspects. It felt to contribute, even in my little way.
-
I'm glad he is reconsidering. :::cheers:::
-
I just want to see more of that freehand work
-
Panama. Glad your not selling the knights, you will only regret it one day. Trust an old head with many regrets.

Thank You for Your comments :-) In Greman we say "Geht runter wie ÖL" (Means something like "Nice to hear", but different)
In two weeks Semester Holidays begin. Maybe then something will go on with the minis.
But I have one important question:
How did You manage to post the pictures?
-
Easy, opened up your posts, copied to my Igmar account, then onto here. Just took longer than I expected, so in no hurry to do again.
-
Wow, awesome minis and great colors. I also like the modular base, really nice idea. :smile2:
