I see that you've hollowed out the nozzle of the blunderbus which looks very good. Did you use any special tools/technique for that?
First I drill a hole in the center of the blunderbus. Then I take my exacto blade and spin the point inside the hole, gradually opening the hole up and creating a cone shaped hole. Once the hole is expanded as deep as you can go, you need to widen the hole to match the flare of the bell. Pull the blade from the exacto knife, and put the blade in backwards, so that the square end is sticking out and the point of the blade is clamped in the handle. Use that square edge to open up the angle of that hole. Because the tail end of the blade sticks out at a funky angle, you may find it easier to hold the blade steady and rotate the part instead. Once you're finished you may want to free-hand the blade around the inside to smooth it out a bit, and create an interior curve. Lastly, a drop of plastic solvent (not glue!) will soften and smooth away any rough spots.
This technique works for bells and trumpets as well. I used it on some of the flails from the new flagellants kit. The bells on the flails are difficult to do (the flail part is pointy and hurts to hold on to, and the chains are delicate), but the end result looks really good. I added a clapper made from plastic rod for an extra touch.
The general on horse is indeed not that great. I think this has several reasons. One being the way he holds that sword, it's not dynamic and it's not in a relaxed position, being neither it looks unnatural. Secondly that left arm. I've never liked that one because to me it gives a (mounted) model far too much of a clumsy gorrila look. Finally he seems to be sitting a bit hunched over in the saddle.
The WP on horse also has an issue. I believe it's simply a matter of proportions. The long legs together with the stocky torso. If you can elongate the torso I think he'll look much better.
Well, the general on horse is going to be replaced with something nicer, and he'll probably be shuffled off into the Dogs of War army I've got brewing on the back burner (the refuge for ugly models). All my mediocre stuff is going there... I have loads of old 6th ed state troops that are going to be piked. It's not that I'm trying to make an ugly DoW army, but rather that I want something to do with models that have been rotated out of my "pride and joy" empire army. DoW is a logical choice as they are visually similar, and thematically intertwined. This will be a loaner army or a "I need a challenge" army.
The priest is not worth fixing, as I rarely field a mounted priest, and I don't mind him being a little on the stocky side (look at Brother Otto for cryin out loud! Empire priests have always been a little chunky). I think his biggest issue is those awful legs from the old champion sprue. They don't look good on anybody! A good shield should dress him up nicely enough for my purposes, however.
KF looks really good though I'm not sure about that bottle, do you plan on adding a silver seal?
I'm planning a version of KF for each version (griffon, dragon, horse, and on foot), and this is the only one who will have a bottle... I don't want to paint the man as an alcoholic (considering how much fuss that bottle has gotten, I may paint it blue and slap an Aquafina label on it!). I'd never field him on foot, but he'll look good, I think, as a centerpiece. I'm not sure If I'll ever get around to putting him on a dragon, but I've already got a griffon for him.
I've already got an idea for the silver seal, but I haven't gotten around to converting it yet. I'm thinking of making a medallion for his hat to serve as the seal, but we'll see. In any case, he looks better than the horrible GW Karl Franz... blech.
