EUROBASH 2012 Aftermath discussion and reports (pg 18)
« on: January 26, 2012, 03:31:16 PM »
Saturday April 28th, Sunday April 29th, Monday, April 30th and Tuesday May 1st.

(The Tuesday being a public holiday in Belgium, so the Monday is apparently a 'bridge' day. )

So participants may choose what days they wish to attend - Soth has suggested that Sunday and Monday are the core days, but people can attend the first three days or the last three days or all four days - up to you.

Venue will again be St Niklaas, in the new HQ clubhouse.

After the experiences of previous years I am certain that we will stay at the Ibis Hotel in the centre of St Niklaas.
It is 5 minutes walk from the gaming venue and there are plenty of bars within staggering distance.

Attending:

Possibles

Gneisenau

If you wish to be added to the list, please post in the thread and I will update as we get closer.
To help Soth negotiate a good deal at the Hotel, it would be helpful if people confirm as soon as they can, and what days they are likely to attend.

Several people may be travelling to the venue on Friday 27th and leaving on Wednesday May 2nd.
However not everybody is staying all 5 nights.

We would expect a twin room to be about 70e and hopefully including breakfast - which is served until 10.00am, and for many of us did for lunch as well.
Otherwise apart from travel cost, it's an evening meal and beers.

'Gaming intensity' is entirely up to you - in previous years some people have played 3 games a day, and others one.

Last year's thread with details and pictures ..........

I can confirm that it is highly unlikely that Madam Commandant will want to come this year, though she did enjoy herself last year, so I might be looking for somebody to share a room with :)

means 4 days off work, and £150 in accommodation costs alone.

Did we go for four days last time? I can't remember.

Also, I looked at last year's pictures again. I need to play undead while wearing that Count von Count T-shirt.

We've done 5 days and 4 nights usually with travelling so we are going to add 1 day and 1 night.

Finlay forgets he has all that money he didn't spend last year left over too?

I spent it at a wedding in Ireland. We were given one half glass of champagne to toast four (!) wedding speeches. Groom, Best man, Father of Bride and Father of Groom.

so I ended up going to the bar for Guinness.

I'm 50/50 on this. Extra day leave (I love to conserve my leave! and I'm going on holiday around easter time too), probably £40 extra cost minimum...

On the other hand I always enjoy myself, if I left early would feel I was missing out, and I have 4 months to save. (really should have been putting aside £50 a month)

At the end of the day, because I will be relying on travel from you and FR1day, I will acquiesce to the group.
Although I would request that we leave early enough on whichever day we do leave so I can get all the way back to Exeter on the same day.
I don't care about the rules.

Pass the machete.

Let's see how it develops.

We may have more than 4 of us from the UK this year - yes I know I say that every year ..........  :engel:

It may be one group stays 4 nights and another 5

If it would be necessary I can pick some people up at the Airport in Brussel, or the station.

Now I only need to get permission of my girl to attend all 4 days.

There is a really good train link if people are thinking of taking the Eurostar from England.   That is how I got to Nottingham and it worked really well

Considering I'd need to book Saturday through Monday off, staying for the Tuesday would not really be an issue for me.

Obviously it's not my call though. :-D

Time off should be no problem. Money is no problem. Just need to work out the logistics of getting there and getting back and I should be set to go.

Count me in, I'll be there (unless the baby my wife and me are exprecting arrives 8 weeks early)  :biggriin:

Should we also consider a trading booth ;-) I'm looking for some of the knight legs that came on the old command sprue (the ones with cloth around the armoured legs) and I'd need some six of them... for my unit Blazing Suns....

And this time it will be no more Mr. Nice guy playing Brets!
No, this time I've got me a brand new army to play with: Dwarves!

Well it now seems we are up to 6 from the UK.

rufus had stayed with Fr1day, and Finlay has stayed at both my place and Fr1days in past years, and then we have headed for the tunnel for a departure around noon.

Finlay will be coming from Exeter and Merrick is somewhere near Bristol.
rufus is in Sheffield and Ratarsed is "oop north" too .............

We will need two cars obviously now, but I am sure we can work it out.

The discussion is probably now about when we go and how long we stay.

I would guess we will travel through the tunnel on the Friday arriving in St Niklaas late afternoon.

Then I think rufus, Fr1day and Finlay want to do 3 days as before and come back on the Tuesday - we have arrived back in the UK in recent years mid afternoon, and Finlay has managed to get back to Exeter that same night.

I'm flexible - I'd be happy to stay for the extra day on Tuesday, and come back Wednesday, but I will go with the majority, though I have just had a thought about the Eurotunnel Saver pricing as it may only work on a 5-day trip.
Need to check.

I can drive if taking three. Will be enough room for stuff then. Four will be to many.
