totally new to Mordhiem
« on: November 27, 2014, 08:19:49 PM »
So the local gaming store runs mordhiem games and some campaigns for it time to time. I have never played or even really thought about playing it but I think it would be fun to build a band and get some games in while rebuilding my Warhammer army. So i was just wondering what you guys thought about the game. What warbands are there? What warbands do you guys play? any tips to get started? can i just collect cool looking minis and use them?

Thanks for your replys and feel free to post pictures of your warbands cause that would be cool to see!

Fun game, not terribly balanced (especially once you add in the experimental/unofficial warbands).  It's the reason for the Empire Free Company box...you can build your entire warband out of that (and have leftovers).  The way to do it is mostly via campaign, where you care about your guys from game to game.

Kind of the only way really, but then it's quite fun and engaging. It also plays pretty quick for the most part, often allowing for several games in one session.

the rules around for free somewhere? I remember when I first discovered warhammer there was a Mordheim section of the GW website, tons of unique figures for the war bands. I wonder if that page is around somehwere

Indeed there are free rules available for downloading.

First make sure you have a e-book reader installed (also a free download)

Then go to [pdf] mordheim-deds to get a free rulebook download of all the official and unofficial (though official now as add-ons) rulings.

Though it had been a year since I downloaded from there so hopefully nothing has changed.

Good luck to you friend and enjoy the adventure of Mordheim!

I heartily recommend it!

The game is simple to get into and infinitely expandable.  Since it is no longer supported by GW it is not going to change on you every couple of years unless you decide to change it yourself.  There are loads of fan-made material to choose from and 'official' releases all available for free.

No.  There is so much unofficial material in that rulebook compilation as to make it a separate game.
It is not in any way 'official' and it would be nice if the author had taken time to note that.

My apologies for putting forth less than useful information,  I rarely do much with things concerning Mordheim so I was unaware of my source being unofficial.

My response could have been better worded as well. That particular rule compilation has been a thorn in my side since it was posted on the web, possibly before since a friend had a hand in getting it to the web.

I'm sure the compilation was well intended, but it has caused much confusion on Tom's Boring Mordheim forum and in my local group.  You are definitely not the first or the only person to think the rules in the compilation are official since some of it is and lots of it isn't. Most of the other 'heims out there like Coreheim or Heroheim or Modheim let you know up front that they are inspired by, but not Mordheim, deds not so much.  :icon_evil:

No worries on whether you offended me, you were completely in the right. I shall be more cautious before giving advice like that in the future.

Thank you for the information regarding the multiple heims' out there, I shall endeavor to look up the official ones only. :smile2:

Ha!  Now I am truly hoisted on my own petard.   ::heretic::

Unofficial material is one of the reasons I enjoy the game.  I just enjoy it more when I can tell what is a GW rule and what is a rule made up by a fan.
