I wanted to try keeping it a very dull green with some dull metal colors, and only a little bit of silver and bronze here and there. The white on the shoulders is suppose to be a bit of a call back to their loyalist colors, but in the wrong place and dirtied up to show how they've still ended up on the wrong side and dirtied up as well.

Interesting back story.

Couldn't tell from the pictures that their armor was green, and it seemed more gray in color.  No compliant here though.

It might just be the light in the photo's. In person it's a real drab green. The paint was even called Sherman Drab, so more or less the same color as a Sherman tank.

So wanted to get your guys opinion on something. I'm thinking of getting some of the Easy to Build primaris kits to convert into Deathwatch. The question is, should I put a lot of work in to cutting off the existing right shoulder pad to replace it with a deathwatch one, or should I just paint the existing one silver and go with it?

Sort of like the difference between these two;

Is there that noticeable a difference do you think between the shoulder pads? I do like the look of the traditional DW one, but I think it might take quite a bit of cutting on the easy build kits.

hmm... The more I look at it, the more I might actually spring for the 5 man combat squad and build some of those as deathwatch instead, and then use the rest to bulk my existing reiver squad.

The second one is darker and more contrasted. I like it more. :::cheers:::

Good to know! They're not my models, but the two of them are the different styles I'm going to try on mine. I like the specialized death watch shoulder pad, but I'm thinking for the Reivers especially I might try to keep it a simpler silver shoulder. So their still death watch, but they look more like stealth troops.

I'd definitely go with the second style.

Also - it was too long for me not to post here. :-P

Woo so now here's the 40k part of my recent painting binge. It's a real mix of stuff. I figured I was having such trouble getting motivated to paint things because I was getting to railroaded into trying to paint a unit then moving on. So instead I grabbed some things that looked interesting and worked on them. Well except for the Hallblasters, those are the last unit from the 'finish a unit then move on' slog.

So first off, we have Captain Germanicus of the DoomSeekers.

Then the aforementioned Hellblaster unit.

Here's a glory shot of them all riding on a previous painted rhino. Shame Primaris are to fat to actually ride in one on the battle field. I think the hover tanks are sweet but to rich for my blood.

Next are the sorta first two models in an experiment of mine. Lore wise my chapter has an auxiliary unit called the Scattered Sons. The DoomSeekers operate on the far rim of the galaxy, way off and isolated. They guard s spatial anomaly that tends to spit out things lost elsewhere in the galaxy. Like the other end of the Bermuda Triangle. 90% of the time it's spitting out angry aliens or heretics, but occasionally there's some loyalists that come through. Unable to return to their home chapters (At least quickly) they instead work in mixed chapter squads. Like a poor mans death watch.

In real life it's really just an excuse for me to paint up a few marines in other chapters colors to experiment and practice without having to paint a whole patrol or army. I've got maybe a dozen in the painting queue. At least one from every first founding chapter, and a couple from some others. Because it's more for a painting experiment the models are usually second hand and usually not in fantastic shape, so ignore some of the ugly gluing and melting on the models. It wasn't me, I promise.

Here we have a Raven Guard and Iron Hands tactical marine.

To finish the update I have my favorite stuff from this batch. My last Death Watch squad that I've been meaning to paint for months now. I've said it before, but it's just such a pleasure to paint death watch. Basecoating black  means I just have to do some details, pick out a few things, and then really spend some quality time on the chapter badge. I love having these guys all in black and silver uniform with just one shoulder showing their home. I've got a real soft spot for special forces guys like these.

Introducing Squad Curtana. Watch Station Winter's close combat experts and premier assassination squad. You got a filthy alien leader who needs to be put to the blade? Then we've got no one finer to do so.

and showcasing the chapter badges. From left to right we have a Flesh Tearer close combat monster, Brazen Claw sergeant, a Howling Griffon sniper, Nova Marine with frag cannon, and Black Templar shield brother.

Not exactly the most optimized load out for the table top, but in their brief showings so far they've ripped apart multiple traitorous Scion squads, slain a chaos lord, out dueled Kharn (with some ridiculously lucky rolls) and got stomped on my an Eldar titan.

Finally we need something for our amazing Death Watch to hunt. So I painted up and Eldar warlock to test out a color scheme for a bunch of other old metal models I have. Let me know what you think of the colors.

An Eldar Warlock of Craftworld Caedmon.

Let me know what you think of things folks!

So I thought these were pretty awesome.

https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/PeachysPDF.pdf

It's a printable PDF, but all the images have been pre-shrunk. All you have to do is print them out and you can attach them to a battlefield or board to have posters and maps the right size for the models.

Does anyone have an experience with Kromlech stuff? I've seen it before but I've found myself looking at some of the stuff with interest. How are the models? It's resin isn't it?

More guard join the front lines!

First up we get a look at the sniper specialist of Corporal Furlongs squad. Although never the MVP's in my past battles, they've proven to be a serious annoyance to my opponents. Even when they're missing every shot (Which is sadly rather frequent) they force my buddy to keep hugging cover and keep his head down.

The other two members are some of the old Gaunts Ghost models that I still need to repaint to fit with their squad mates. Fluff wise the other two are irregular guerilla's who've been attached to the snipers as trackers and guides. Helps explain the radically different combat outfit. Although in fairness, if these guys are snipers they probably shouldn't be wearing bright red and white flak armor.

Next up in my of my personal favorite specialist squads. The Demo team. Armed with a melta gun and two demolition charges in past games they've essentially erased units off the battlefield. I like to leave them lurking at the back near my command squad till my opponent forgets about them, then spring them out.

Finally we have four members of Captain Gretzky's Command squad. I uh... I have a bit of a melta obsession that's getting somewhat unhealthy.

I'm also just noticing this thanks to the pictures, but the guy on the right is a medic. Does he look like he has a rather unnatural neck to you? It's freaking me out a bit.

They absolutely are terribly painted Canadian flags. Or more accurately for the fluff, the flag of the fine regiment of the 1st Canadiana.

Although it has been pointed out to me that the middle bit looks more like a pot leaf then a maple leaf.
