Today's Middenland Army
« on: December 05, 2010, 04:19:41 AM »
Hi all,

First main post as I've now compiled enough photos of my army to start a P Log.   I have a number of unpainted regiments that I want to get finished so I can resume conversions.  Like many others, I want to use this as some motivation to get the painting done.

Not much fluff to share with everyone, just a normal Middenland force with big blocks of soliders, a few steam tanks, halflings, perhaps a giant or so.  I have been collecting since 1993 so you should see a mix from 4th edition models to current models.

Anyway, hope everyone likes it.  I'd love to hear comments on the painting/conversions or anyother ideas that might be sparked in this thread.  I've gotten a lot of inspiration and ideas from this site, so I wanted to give back what I could.

Thanks for looking,
T

Main swordsmen regiment

2nd swordsment regiment

Captain on a Rooster

Small detachment of duellists

Keg Chucker (Counts as a Helstorm)
I definitely poached this idea form the forum.  I believe it was from the all Halfling army.  Thank you for the great idea!  And I've love to hear any other suggestions of libations to write on these blank barrels....

WIP of the drunk Master Gunner (lets hope this doesn't misfire often, otherwise I know who to blame)

Mortar

Cannon

Hot Pot (Counts as a Mortar)

Helblaster

Random Sign

Small Teutogen Guard Unit (Count as 20 greatswords)

Wood pile for the brewery

Unit filler for my Halberds

Swordsment unit fillers

Reaper Fire Wizard

Captain for my Spearmen

A WIP unit filler I'm working on for my swordsmen

And some of the queue

Sweet looking army Today!  I particularly like the unit fillers and barrell launcher.  I think I may try to borrow the idea and make a surprised Skaven tunnelers unit filler.

I like seeing that 2nd regiment of swords and its size being at 10x5 for 50 of them.  Excellent!  :eusa_clap:

Enjoy seeing all the conversion ideas, too. :::cheers:::

And the barrel thrower is a great idea for a helstorm. :icon_cool:

Hi all.  Update time.  And I need your help.  I'm trying to make a steam powered war altar.  I made an altar a while ago and didn't like how long it turned out being pulled by horses.  So I want to add it on top of a steam tank but I'm not sure what to use to make it look seamless.  Anyone have any ideas or pictures of a preaching platform on top of a steam tank?

First off - Arch Lector w/ Mace of Helstrum WIP

Now the War Altar

I missed this the first time around...

I LOVE the unit fillers and conversions! Great stuff, solid painting, beautiful looking army.

And that War Altar is really great too. I think the horse drawn version looked fine. But as far as the steam version, if that's what you want I'm sure it will turn out great too. My only modest suggestion if you do that is to make a more solid connection between the top platform and the STank hull. I think it would have looked pretty good sitting right on top of the STank, then with some outer supports. Right now it looks a little precarious with just those 6 pieces separating two very solid masses.

My only other criticism is that although I like the Arch Lector conversion in general, I'm not certain I dig the one handed grip on that giant sized weapon.

Someone else mentioned (elsewhere in the forum) that there has been a bunch of really great work from new members recently. I'd have to agree. I love the character that all of your modeling has given this army and I look forard to seeing some more.  :::cheers:::

Neat unit fillers; definitely something I need to consider for my own units.  The only criticism I have of the keg launcher is thats a WASTE OF BEER! ;)

Where do the duelists come from? The only ones I know are the DOW Vendetta guys, and I thought they were all 2-swords. No?  I don't have the 7th ED book though, is that a new empire detachment? Or a stand in of some sort?  Clue in the old 4th Edition general, eh  :icon_question:   :icon_cool:

I like to think they're launching empty barrels maybe filled with rocks or the like after the beer is gone (Especially with halflings in the army)

Beautiful ideas, I like the Barrel launcher and may have to steal that idea myself.

The beer kegs are full....but they are full of spoiled beer.

The duelists were just self named.  They are kit-bashed from the militia sprue and the pistoliers/outriders sprues.

on your war alter, I would cut out the center 1/3 of the platform. The part that is empty, and glue the two endstogether, then I would glue the sshortened platform directly to the stank top. My thought? is to have the lector preaching to the enemy as he is now, or reversing the top so he faces backwards in order to urge on the troops that are following him, and you definetly need to add an organ player.  You might look at the space marines tank organ variant to see how you can change your pipes to look a little more organy. An ambitious project and rather well carried out. Dont stop until you are perfectly satisfied. Keep up the good work. steveb
