Watched the first three episodes of "The Mist", the new show based off of Stephen King's novella. I read the book back in the 80s; loved it. Saw the movie that came out about 10 years ago; loved it. This new series, however? Not so much. WAY too much contemporary politics, cliched characters, etc. Plus, after three episodes, it would be nice to see an actual MONSTER. If nothing else pops up, I may continue to watch this, but for now . . . meh . . .
So, what would you guys do if some dude came at you with a belt that way?
Make sure I've got the safeword memorised.

I really liked the movie with Thomas Jane. Grim and depressing - loved it!

I don't know who she is! Was hoping for Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Glad it's not Marshall though.

I've been watching series 1-8 since last April, and planning on getting the DVDs for the 9th series this week (and series ten as soon as I can get my hands on them). Absolutely loving it, one of the most entertaining shows I've seen.

I'm very interested in seeing Jodi Whittaker take up the part, she was great in Broadchurch, and starring next to David Tennant (favorite doctor!) and Arthur Darvil for three seasons has to count for something.

Article by Colin Baker (6th Doctor) in support of Jodie Whittaker's casting:

The world we live in has a history of male domination, of stereotyping, of resistance to change, of playing it safe. Doctor Who has never been about that. The Doctor in all his incarnations has always been a passionate defender of justice, equality, fairness and resisted those who seek to dominate or destroy.

It was made in 1963 by a female and a gay Asian.

This series in particular has been extremely overtly lefty liberal politically.

People whinging about it are hilarious.

I've binge-watched the whole Castlevania series... which was like 100 minutes long. :-P I liked it, but it felt like an overdrawn intro sequence.

I stopped watching this current run with Smith took over (didn't like him).  We might start watching again.

It's not as if it's even all that radical. Deep Space Nine had Dax (a character who had lived previous lives as male and female and was still called 'old man' by the commander despite currently being female) twenty years ago.

Smith was good at first, but became increasingly irritating. Capaldi was amazing but didn't get a consistently good series until the most recent one.

If that is your preferred era I think giving at least the Capaldi New Who a go. I haven't cared much at all for any of the new stuff really though I found Capaldi's Doctor more along the lines of what I liked out of classic stuff.

Daniel Crag has been announced as being in the next bond movie at least, so it's going to be awhile before any real worries about Bond becoming female.

Although frankly I'm in the camp that doesn't care. If the writings good and the adventures are fun I don't care what the alien shapeshifter looks like.

Seconded. Honestly I don't understand what all the fuss is about, and I'm sort of disappointed at how the news of the doctor being a woman is completely overshadowing the fact that there's a new doctor. There's no change to existing lore- time lords turned into time ladies before, after all- so I honestly can't see why having a female doctor would be a bad thing. Or a good thing.

I'm most excited for it being good because I think it's important to have a different Dr than previous, for new opportunities.

youngest Dr Smith, to an old Dr Capaldi.

Male Dr Capaldi, female Dr whittaker.

Lets them put a new slant on the show.
