How Are You Preparing for Rumored Return of the Old World?
« on: January 11, 2021, 12:19:34 AM »
I am continuing to get more of my Empire figures completed.  Currently working on my knightly orders and might had some, moving forward with some additional Averland figures and the Matoreans/Mareinburg Merchant family figures as well, plus some more Tilean mercenaries.

Being that most of my figures are for Averland, Matorea, a Marienburg Merchant family, and a Tobaro based mercenary group, not sure how this will all fit into the rumored return of the Old World.  However, looking forward to it anyway.

However, i want to be ready.  And happy to see Bretonnia might have their own return to respectability as well.

How Are You Preparing for Rumored Return of the Old World?

If one never really left what is there to prepare for?  :icon_wink:

If anything I am just more interested in what they do for background for the 2200s, no Wizards for Empire and all. My stuff will stay in the 2520's as it has been for nearly 25 years. I'll be interested at what they do for a ruleset but dropping WHFB the first time doesn't make me give a damn about any official GW rules anymore.

:icon_lol:  Well I don't have all our figures that are wanted to be painted yet for the 2520's. :icon_mrgreen:

Not sure. I’ve almost completely divested the wfb to aos. It’s taken 5 years to get to this stage. I’m not sure I’ll have the desire or want to go back and start again. I like the idea, maybe I’ll get back into the fluff but I’m sure I’ll be packing this in in the next couple of years as it is. When we move again in 2 years, I may not have the room or willpower to set up again. Not to be a downer on this, it’s just I can’t see a future for all the space it takes. When I get into something, it has to be all the way or nothing. Can’t imagine a painting table only.
Maybe just continue with the books.

As part of my motivation/inspiration I've been working to dig out older, unpainted special characters from the back log. Getting some of the old faces done finally.

When it was rumored that the Old world was going away, I worked to wrap up my three "Oldhammer" armies. They've been on the shelf since then, seeing action in RPGs and stuff but no big battles.

I did pick up the Krakeneater Megagargant, but it fits the theme of my human and ogre pirates so well. Other than that, I'll just blow the dust off when the time comes and put them back into action.

My entire Empire army is still being built in unison so my prep is just to get something, anything finished! Also been looking at Wordpress a lot more closely recently with a view to getting some of my progress into the Community and starting a WIP thread on here... watch this space...

My big BIG worry for 'The Old World' revival is going to be scale, everything GW makes now is on 32mm bases and is huge in comparison to the WFB minis of yesteryear, genuinely my old 6th ed infantry in some instances is standing around abdomen/chest height on some of the new AoS humanoids...I fear the old regiments are going to look like they're from The Moot compared to any new offerings!

8k Empire: Finished
8 - 10 K warriors of chaos: almost finished
3 k Bretonnia: Finished

5K Dark elves - new project for 2021
3 K high elves - new project after dark elves, or alternating painting high and dark elves for the next 4 or 5 years.  :icon_eek:

I've even gotten out my partially painted skaven figures.  Most of them are from the 8th edition starter set, but I lined up all the spear rats in one block and the hand weapon rats in another.  They were primed a light gray further back, in the hopes I could use a black wash for painting over the fur.  I had gotten 4 vallejo paints on sale back then, a strange dull yellow, a russian tank green, a fire red, and a light tan ... and swore these would be the rats primary clothing colors.  It seems I'd gotten some of these on the buggers, and it is time to do more.

I never left the Old World behind.

In fact, I started painting my Empire in earnest in spring 2015, and as I got more troops ready, I played more than before during 2016-2019.

Still got plenty of Old World troops & armies to build and paint. And friends who play various editions and games in the Old World.

Personally, it feels like others - including GW - might return to the setting. So I might prepare with a welcoming party? Not in two or three years, but as soon the pandemic is done with. :-)

Haven't left either. Been playing 8th with my mates for the past 5 years. Started refubrishing my old 5th Ed undead army and turning them into a 8th Ed force, so I hope to continue doing so in 2021.

I'd love to hear some details about that project!

Not sure if this was directed to me Sharkbelly, but I actually have a little blog thread running on the EEFL forum: https://eefl.freeforums.net/thread/2071/barrow-kings

If people would be intersted in that, I could open up one in the Glass Cabinet as well  :::cheers:::.

By guarding my bank account. I'm not getting sucked back in, no way!
Now go! Ride towards the sun atop these noble steeds
You're our spandex heroes, now fullfil your destinies
And so we turned and rode beyond the castle walls
with shiny codpiece armour that doth cradle our chivalrous balls

I've missed reading anything , lol

Life has got so hectic , for the best, ive been designing and manufacturing electronics for covid testers , so it's been great,

most of the UK devices in fact.

Tell me what the rumour is?
