FreeGuild Start Collecting
« on: January 05, 2017, 06:03:22 AM »
So does anything think GW will release a free guild start collecting box?

I was really hoping they would release one with some Pistoliers in them.

If they did, what do you think they would put in it?

So many horrible things have happened to me lately. Building FB models was one of the few things in the world i got joy out of and now thats been taken from me too, thanks to AOS. If Empire [or whatever it goes by now] comes back, i'll be a lot happier

Oh, tough to say what they'd put in it.

I'd imagine they'd build off the Legions of Reconquest in the Grand Alliance book that has the Free Guild as a force for retaking lands captured by chaos.

A force of pistoliers in it would very likely as the picture of them in a book focuses on them, a general on griffon and one on horseback, lots of great swords and state troops in the background.

So at a guess: 1 general on griffon, 5 pistoliers, 10 greatswords and 10 Handgunners.

I don't think they'd include state troops because of need for additional weapon options. Not certain we would see demigryphs though, they seem to much of a deal and they are rarely with the Guild in the book.

This is just my guess though. We might get lucky with a re-release like the Beastclaw Raiders after the next generals handbook release since there's already two novels in the works dealing with normal human soldiers taking on Tzeentch minions.

Comparing the other Start Collecting boxes, it tends to be 3 other boxes.  There a couple with 4, but that's really because of a clampack hero, rather than a big kit.

With that in mind, I'd say General on Griffon, Pistoliers.  Then next is tricky.  As they have a choice between State Troops, Handgunners and Greatswords.  They could be awesome and revive the 20 man militia box.

All of the start collecting boxes have all the full contents of the boxes they are separately, so state troops would have all the weapon options.

Unfortunately, I don't foresee a Freeguild Start Collecting box any time soon, but then again, there's not really much in the rumour pipeline for AoS anyway.  We know Disciples of Tzeentch are coming this month, but nothing really much beyond that.

Hmm, well if its got pistoliers or a hurricanum then I'll probably buy it. As I love the pistolier kit and I don't have a hurricanum.
Anything else and its a maybe. ....especially if they just load it up with crappy state troops.
State troops do have lots of extra bits(not just weapon options like the newer elf and dwarf stuff) so they still arne't too bad. And I never bought many of the state troops - I hunted ebay for the older edition state troops.

I would think a Hurricanum is unlikely since it's not part of Freeguilds.  It's Collegiate Arcane now.

I think the General on Griffon will be to much for the start collecting box, I think a general on horse will be the hero for the box unless we get some n hero options.
3 Demigryph Knights would make a solid choice seeing we have already Ironjawz with gore-gruntas, Khorne bloodbound with skullcrushers and khorne deamons with skulcrushers while others have also some sort of cavalry.
Add greatswords or guard and a unit of handgunners and you have a solid starting point.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

They did mention on Warhammer TV last night about some new Start Collecting boxes coming soon for AoS.  No more than that, but I would guess a Tzeentch Daemons set, could be anything for the others

Regarding any update coming for The Free Peoples/Guild/Empire from the FB page they did say they didn't have any plans for the free Peoples yet after 1 person asked them about it in the comments (this was asked back in 2016), and also I think I've read somewhere from BOLS that the old Empire, Dwarfs, and Elves kits were going to get repackaged to fit AOS (so far only elves have gotten their updated kits). Did Games Workshop say anything about what they would do with the free people's recently?

Not heard anything regarding Free Peoples in the last few months I'm afraid.

Kharadron Overlords are next up - Steampunk Dwarfs.

Next lot of rumours suggest possibly Nurgle, or Shadow Sea Elves of some kind

If they'd include the Free Companies inside, it'd be great.

That'd be a sweet deal.  :biggriin:

Anyway, I think the best we can hope for this year is a battletome after the GH2 is released and maybe a skirmish force for ShadeSpire since it'll have multiple warbands released with it

The rumor of a new Mordheim next year would prove a better time for some human focus as well.

I think the specialist games are going to take longer than first rumoured, I think Adeptus Titanticus was due out pretty soon, but the success of Bloodbowl means I think they have considered doing the core set in plastic, which means it's been bumped back a few months.   And that then probably means the next one, which I think was going to be Necroumnda is probably also delayed.   There isn't anything official announced other than Adeptus Titanicus at the moment though.   But it means I think Mordheim is probably later than we could hope for.

I don't really foresee a Freeguild Battletome any time soon.  I kind of feel that Devoted of Sigmar would be the first human faction to get anything.

After that, you're possibly right about a small gang for Warhammer Underworlds.  but I think we might just see a gang a month for that game, and perdiodically a new gameboard set

Collegiate Arcane, Devoted of Sigmar, Freeguilds, and Ironweld Arsenal.

I suppose there, are some smaller ones that mix with other races, like the Azyrheim Lancehost

How many human factions are there?

Well that is a tricky one. Depends if you cou t ironweld arsonal, devoted of sigmar and collegiate arcane as true seperate factions. And of you could count stormcasts and chaos mortals as 'human'. If all of the above are none, then just one faction of humans.

If we're talking about factions as in different civilizations I collected some info from my lore conversations and readings.
Quote
Small sum-up:

Candlemen: remnants of Fire realm kingdoms that took to living in caves and lighting candles in place of their older worship bonfires to Sigmar's glory. Had a hand during the God-beasts battles in aiding the Stormcast.

Hydonis: Was the largest empire in the realm of beasts, it's fall during the age of chaos saw it's last noble families ride out on Ghur-Stryders to meet chaos in a final battle. Their emperor was saved by Sigmar and made a commander of the Extremis chamber. Current remnants are rebuilding their provinces.

Steppe Khanate: Was a large empire in the Fire realm that fell to Khorne's legions. Their last stand saw their Sky titan allies enchant their walls so that even Khorne's greatest daemons couldn't breach. Khorne himself appeared and destroyed their last bastion. Last defiant act of their Empire was to gather one of the largest mortal armies known in the realms and strike out at Khorne's fortresses, the assaults failed. Survivors bowed down to chaos forces after that and their tribes began worshipping their conquerors. Current timeline sees refugees go into newly made Order cities. "Reclaimed" refugees are treated with prejudice by Azyrheim forces.

Volpone kingdom: one of several kingdoms in the fire realm to continue operating under chaos rule. They acted with armed resistance where others tried negotiations. Lost a force of 3000 knights that were thrown into their sacred river. Current status unknown.

Lantic Empire: Last human bastion during the age of chaos and one of the greatest empires in all of the mortal realms. Stood it's ground while almost all other mortals fled to Azyrheim. It fell to the combined forces of chaos and Archaon himself. Current status is as home to the first Ghoul king and main origin land of the Flesh-Eater courts as the remnants succumbed to his madness.
Quote from: Lord Kragan
Forgot that the Lantic Empire was too in Aqshy and Ghyran. In Ghyran they were the biggest nation and in Aqshy they had massive forticiations (The "Gilded Steamgird", a more primitive version of Hammerhal's defenses) that required a massive warthrong of chaos-alligned Fyrleslayers' Magmadroths to take down.
Quote
The Lantic Empire was the mightiest nation back during the age of myth. A stronghold of science and enlightment, a very technologically advanced nation that spanned multiple realms, at least Ghur, Ghyran (were they were THE biggest nation) and Shysh, possibly Aqshy too. Beyond this basic overview, little is known yet about it except that a) they were the last great nation to fall down, having fought the legions of the everchosen for more than a hundred years, b) they were the place where the Flesh Eater Courts were founded and C) It's been refounded at least once, as Battletome BCR mentions the fall of the 12th Lantic Empire, a mere shadow of its former self. IIRC it's been mentioned 6 times in almost as many books, the most alluded element just ahead of the Grotbag Scutlings (AKA: Grot Sky Pirates).

I was thinking the same thing, they were the only "empire" sub-faction to get a new hero in AOS I suppose... eitherway though If they ever decide to make anything new for the Devoted of Sigmar, I hope we get some "Swiss Guard" looking troops.

I've not seen or heard any sign of anything Freeguild, Devoted of Sigmar, Collegiate Arcane or Ironweld Arsenal coming any time soon.  Trust me, if I had, Id be posting it on this forum, where there are a lot of people eager to know anything.

Of the stuff I've heard or read about, they are talking about Deep shadow Cthulu Aelf Sky Pirates,   Skaven Clan Skryre Sky Pirates, Grot (Goblin) Sky Pirates.

To be honest, I think some of that stuff is just made up, there seems to be a lot of expectation on another Sky Pirates, but not any consensus on which faction is going to be the real rival for the Kharadron Overlords.  It could all be wrong, I'm not putting a lot of faith in any of these rumours at the moment, other than some for of Skaven coming this year.

As for human factions, this is my speculation, we're likely to see the odd model for a quest side game, or a gang for Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespyre before we see a battletome or faction release for the main Warhammer Age of Sigmar game.

Same I hope they don't get rid of the Renaissance Germanic design, it's what keeps them apart from the majority of other fantasy kingdoms/empires.
