-
Can I ask, are they dipped?
-
They look dipped, especially the Halberds, but they do look great!
The reds and greens look especially deep and rich.
-
Nice stuff so far fellow Hochlander.
I especially like the wizard and the fact that you managed to make those ancient halberdiers look so spiffy and up to date. 8-)
-
Yeah, my thought also. Dipped but it works good. It lacks some of the nice smaller detailing but as a whole it looks pretty good. And as an army as a whole it would look great.
-
Yes, they are all dipped. More photos later on.
-
Hochland Uber alles! nice job. steveb

GREAT looking army !
Love the old halberdiers, and I'm stealing your idea of the artilleryman on the barrel !
-
Looking good there, though I'm not a big fan on dipping white - it looks weird.
I love what you did with the banner bearer in the swordsmen unit.

Those are really good models, like the realistic paint scheme.

So I take it these models are dipped? Looks very good. Therefore, do you just dip them into the stuff, or do you brush it on, or do you water it down a bit, let me know
Thanks
-
Whenever I get around to painting, I need to look into dipping too. What did you use for the dip?
-
Hochland rules! Love your Militia and nice work with bases.
-
The militia are really good. Really good overall, as a matter of fact.
-
Models were dipped into wood stain and then the excess of the stain was removed by a brush. When the sculptures were dry ,after 24h, the sculptures were warnished. Wood stain I use was produced by Sadolin, colour:walnut.
And you have to repeat the process over, and over, and over, and over again.....boooooooooring...
-
I like the dirty feel of this, blue collar army. Please post some W.I.P. pics.
-
How many times d'you repeat the process on one model?
Would it work for blue and white?

Ludwig looks positively fantastic!

I really like how the dipping technique tones down Hochland's colour scheme. Great army man, it looks totally awesome.

Each model was dipped once. White and blue are awful after dipping.
-
Absolutely fantastic. I was contemplating the same check pattern on my knights (as on your BSB), how hard was it to accomplish?
Great army!
Very time -consuming and boring at the same time... It took me 6 months to paint the stuff I've showed here.
-
I love what you did with the banner bearer in the swordsmen unit.
The banner comes from the local beer's label. Heraldry was cut out and sticked on to the banner and slightly painted, the beer was drank while painting: )
-
Really nice work. :eusa_clap: I really like the color scheme and the overall look of the army.

greetz,
You got some very nice and vivid colours going there; me likes :smile2:
The crew of the volley gun look a bit shiny though.
But you produce way better quality then the things that pass my brush. :biggriin:
very nice indeed
-
Really nice work. I like the colors and the older figures.
-
Wow, that's a very beautiful army! :::cheers:::
It just goes to show what a really good paintjob and color scheme can do. I tried green and red on my first attempt at a color scheme and it was a total disaster. This just looks terrific.

Superb. I'm working on my Hochland army right now, and you've given me some superb ideas.
Might I ask, what's the deal on your knights? They don't belong to a Knightly Order, but I find them
to look great! I'm curious to know how you painted them, so I can extend your fine knights to another army.
thanks,
-Skipper
-
I love the look of this army! I've never been a fan of the Hochland colour scheme but you have made it look wonderful. Especially the griffincount.....great work.
-
That is a great job. Absolutely fantastic. What european country is hochland modeled after? The dip job is just amazing, I didn't know how you achieved the look you got, till somebody mentioned it, but awesome.

This is one of the absolutely best painted armies I Have ever seen. Simple as that.
Beautiful color scheme. perfect shading!

I really like the bright wizard... You should only highlight his hair and beard with some sort of light orange-brown colour...
I really hate the mounted engineer (the model, not your paintjob, which is great), and I really love the way you've highlighted those laurels...

-
This is awesome work! Someone somewhere around the world must be dead happy for owning something like this.
I'm just curious - for how much was the original army sold in eBay? Furthermore, what was the price you asked for the reinforcements? That was rather a big addition to the army.
Your paintjob is excellent. It's wonderful to see people get these kinds of projects done, profit from it, and enjoy the process on the way. Lovely stuff.
-
Wow! Jaw droppingly good work!
-
Nice work I like it
-
Very cool army.

STEAM TANK OF DOOM
I did the body and wheels from plastic cards
I made Engineer from old flagellant
-
OH!! wow looking forward to seeing this all painted up!! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
-
Looking absolutely great.
Great kudos for the steam tank, excellent model !
Now paint !
-
excellent scratch built stank, yes indeed do a base for the ship, besides the aesthetics, easing of game play (contact for base to base combat) a base also prolongs the life of the model so that accidents of many different kinds are either eliminated or reduces in severity, and as a place where you may pick up the model without putting oily fingers on the paint job. Mainly I like the aesthetic angle, but in any case a resounding yes to making a base. steveb
-
I think you still have not enough steam tanks.
-
good luck with all these new models, you have some serious painting ahead of you no doubt!
-
nice army, shaping up well.
-
Thanks for comments!
I have lack of something in war altar I must change something... but i don't know what... maybe horses... I don't have idea
I'm waiting for ideas
Yes of course I don't have enough steam tanks. I'm building also the next steam tank ( from plastic cards but it inspired on 5th edition of steam tank) The most problem for me to build steam tank is the turrets.
-
Really great builds and conversions. As far as advice for the War Altar, I'd just swap out the horse heads you're using for the ones looking up. If for no other reason than to make the griffon crests on their heads more dynamic and prominent.
-
:::cheers::: :::cheers::: :::cheers::: :happy:
-
Loving the new STank and yah I think you could do a awesome base for the Landship. One thing that is bothering my is those Flaggeys dont seem to be the same standard as the rest of your stuff
-
Yes I'm doing base for te Lanship. I don't have good ideas now, but suerly i will do the base!
Flagellant's unit isn't finished yet. Soon I will take new pictures.
-
I have finished some minis. Figures from forgeworld are great, and they have many details, so painted takes me a lot of time. And it is not the end...

-
Howk Aronia!
I love your blog and you know that.
Your whole army is just awesome!
I didn't do base for the ship yet. What material for the base is good? I'm thinking about movement trays when I join 3 movement trays (5x20) then will be good ? I'm looking for advices.
Your idea is ok but you can also place thin sheet of plasticard fitted to base size that you required on the top or just buy 3-4mm thick plasticard sheet, cut size and shape you need and make a base you want. What are you going to put on that base?
And I want to see more of your stuff!
Cheers! ;)
-
Thank Estel for advise.
I don't want take plastic cards. I am afraid about clean edges. I Would like to have all models in army with the same style of bases or at least with clean edges.
I'm putting on the base broken cannons and ruined hous or wall or maybe Road. I don't have good Idea so I'm going to do another work.
-
How about the modular movement tray 100mm x 100mm - about the right thickness and can be cut to size (3 sides should be clean as will be as moulded) - no need to join 3 trays together. The gridded pattern can be easily covered with whatever basing material you use.
Models are fab by the way.
-
Some really nice stuff here, especially like the forge world reaper. The knights are also very nice. :::cheers:::
Since I paint Hochland myself, I have a question for you. There is alot of red painting to do with this province. How do you go about painting your red? What colours etc.. I keep struggling with the coverage, takes very much time.
-
Love the colour on the land ship, and nice neat paitn job too.
Going back to your previous big post, there is a picture with 4 mercenaries, where is the second model from? The first is the Leitpold the Black from Forge World, and the third is Gamezone, is the second Gamezone as well?
-
I really like those swordsmen. The landship is a marvel, it would deserve more pictures and close-ups then this :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
-
I have a question for you. There is alot of red painting to do with this province. How do you go about painting your red? What colours etc.. I keep struggling with the coverage, takes very much time.
I usually do white undercoat and make two layers of red colour sometimes three. There is no problem for dipping technique but i thinked about change blood red on vallejo red paint (or other producent with better pigment)
Going back to your previous big post, there is a picture with 4 mercenaries, where is the second model from? The first is the Leitpold the Black from Forge World, and the third is Gamezone, is the second Gamezone as well?
The second hero is from Hell Dorado game and his name sounds: Georg Von Holbein. I don't know who is the manufacturer.

Absolutely great Idea and better than normal 3 movement trays
-
I don't know the manufacturer of Hell Dorado either, but I do there is a place near me that stocks some of that range, so I can probably get hold of it, Got some of their other stuff, which is some nice stuff

Nice handgunners!
-
Its the simple things that people come up with that work so well that appear on this forum that I love so much. The crowned skull on the barrel is so obvious and works so well but would never have occurred to me to do - consider the idea stolen and thanks! Also I was planning on two packs of Ironsides plus the command group but was wondering how to make two ranks from 23 models again thanks for the answer. Was the decision to paint the Ironsides red to keep them in keeping with the Hochlanders or just to give contrast to the black armour? - they're really nicely painted by the way.
-

I created monkey on the barrel as a 24 th handgunner (i thinked also about chained snotling or dog etc). I used red because that colour is easy to dip and looks good in nuln army ( I can also use them like a detachments in Hochland). In the other side silver armour are hard to paint with dipping technique. So my chose was quite simple.
Wolfenbaum You are taking very good pictures. Next time I will bring your advices about taking pictures.
-
Might Sound Like I know Nothing but whats Dipping,
Seen it here a lot and dont know what it is?
-
those hand gunners are AWESOME!!! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
-
Wow - even more impressed now I know they are dipped - how much touch up post dip did you do to make the highlights/faces and details look so good. Obviously a matt varnish over the dip but what else?
-
I don't have to much time, so I dipped all mdoels. In the past I painted normal (You can see my gallery on CMON - there is some of my dwarf army). I think that my dipped miniatures present good tabletop quality. I don't do any touch up.I dipp mini and then I take off dip overflow by brush. That's my secret. Ofcourse I use mat varnish&white undercoat. But the most important is chose of base colours.
-
Might Sound Like I know Nothing but whats Dipping,
Seen it here a lot and dont know what it is?
Dipping is a process whereby the model is painted in basic, flat colors and then dipped (or heavily painted) with a dark stain (normally a woodworking stain). The stain creates shadows and highlights and gives an immediate result. It is very popular among those making large numbers of models.
I have never used it myself, but the results can be excellent. Trial and error will give a result you personally like - there are as many ways to do this as there are painters.
Recently, the new GW washes have made dipping less attractive for many, as the new washes can get many of the same results but without the excessive messiness which sometimes comes with dipping.
-
Kudos for painting all those rivets!
-
Thanks that really Helps :smile2:
-
I should say also that a dipping is very boring and don't get really satisfaction as a normal painting. If somebody need advices about it, then you can write to me on priv. What about tutorial of dipping, we need it on our site?
-
The ironsides are really nice models.
Great army.
-
First time I've seen the Ironsides and the landship in the flesh so to speak. Very nicely done! :biggriin:
-
An Awesome painting job! I like that handguners.
-
Love your ironsides mate!! Got 20 of those to do aswell!
I painted a landship also and I know what it's like painting all of those ruddy rivets!!
Well done!! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
You can check out my landship in my post New Talabheim Army - Look past the first pics of the landship as the second group of photos is much better! :smile2:

Outstanding....
