Rensdyr: and everyone else=

fbjorns banner is the symbol and official heraldic shield of Småland, a province in the south of Sweden. fbjorn and me come from that province, which in direct translation means The Little Land..but it is actually the third largest province in the country.

For hundreds of years Småland was the border province to Skåne, the southernmost part of Sweden that had always belonged to Denmark, along with west coast province Halland. Many wars were fought over these parts until 1658 when Skåne finally became Swedish with the peace treaty of Roskilde (no, the music festival of Roskilde is NOT in celebration of this, hehe...).

The evil Danes invaded Sweden again in 1676 but were beaten in the Battle of Lund. That is one of the bloodiest battle in European history, if you count the percentage of how many men in the two armies that were killed, about 50% on each side. It was litterally a pure slaughter and only random circumstances gave the Swedes victory. At least that what the "historians" say.. hrmmppf..

Småland gradually lost its importance as a military strategic area and most of the castles and fortresses there have become ruins. However you should check out this link to the castle of Kalmar on the southeast coast of Småland. Lots of renaissance information. =)
http://www.kalmarslott.kalmar.se/sites/kalmarslott/t/default.aspx?id=19673

The symbol is widely used in Småland, for example the hockey team from my home town of Alvesta has it on their jerseys.

That concludes Tomerix´s history lesson for today... =)

First of, really really nice minis fbjorn! You did a very good job on those swordsmen!

Secondly.. I think we need to correct some Swedish propaganda!

For hundreds of years Småland was the border province to Skåne, the southernmost part of Sweden that had always belonged to Denmark, along with west coast province Halland.

You could say that we Danes owned the swedes  8-)

What the... We weren't evil, we just wanted out land back  And for the record, we weren't beaten, you were not victorious, we felt sorry for you and gave you the land to make you stop whining..

We should have invaded all of Denmark when we had the chance back in 1658.  Damn that king Karl X for letting you off the hook so easily....If he had been a Stirlander, you Danes would now speak properly.

Ah, well, maybe its a good thing that we only fight our battles on the football field these days. On the 10th of October we´re coming to Copenhagen to kick your butts.
Feel free to let another drunken idiot run into the fileld again and give us the victory!

Bah... Invaded Denmark, my hairy ***... Even if you tried, England would have slain you all. As long as both Denmark and Sweden controlled the "Øresund" the price for sailing through wouldn't be that high. If Sweden controlled both sides, they could crank up the price, making the Great Britain very angry.

The drunken idiot was living in Sweden and you probably infected him with whatever you've got over there!

... but the blue could be a tad darker IMO.
Thanks for your input. I think I will try that out, on a model. Maybe a wash of midnight blue. Or just leave more of the darker blue tones visible. Or I shall try to paint a brown or black vest on them, like Qrab's Nuln gunners

just to hide some of all that blue and yellow.

There's just one tiny bit of criticism I have: The lack of shoes on at least two troopers. It really doesn't take any talent to just give these sculpts some slippers, and it goes a long way in making the unit look more "professional" (as opposed to ill-disciplined rabble) as a whole.
Even if it turned out that I had that much talent  I think I'm just to lazy ( or fed up with those 30 little guys ). I think I just hide the bare feet soldiers in the ranks for now.  :closed-eyes:

the banner is super-great, sweet freehand there!
Thanks, I wish it was free hand.
It's a water slide transfer that I have printed out from my computer, attached to the banner, and then filled it in with paint.

the red lion with the crossbow, is it your own design or specific for Nordland?
I would have loved to design that. About the design
See General Tomerix Rotenkopf's splendid history lesson a few posts back.

Thank's General! I would never been able to explain it all about smaland in detail like that.  :::cheers:::

Buddha: of course our leaders knew about the tea-zipping bleakbottoms in Englad. We´d just kept the tolls at the same level...

Aaahh, how great we could have been...if we had taken Denmark, kept Finland (lost in the disastrous war against Russia in 1809), and chained Norway even tighter, we could still have been  a great power...
On the other hand..then we would probably have been attacked during the World Wars... so maybe its a good thing we´re just a small exotic country that noone really cares about... =)

Hi!

Some of you may remember this horse
http://www.warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=23476.msg292762#msg292762

Well finally the rider is done. It took a while basically because It took some time to gather the courage I needed to paint her face.

Anyway her she is , Gudrun af Ekspjut ( I think, please tell me if that means something bad in any known language). She's from nordland of course and not very tame. (Ask her father if you don't believe me ) .

It's quite a lot of pictures, I know, but I couldn't decide which to skip.

So what do you think?

Very well painted & very interestingcombination f bits.  Care to state which bits you used exactly?  I am spotting a slaneesh hero with a headswap on Balthasar gelt's horse but the extra bits and bobs escape me.

It the mounted slaneesh lord (riding on a worm). The head comes from a sister of Sigmar, and the tip of the spear is a hallbeard from the state troops. There is no extra bits beyond that.

That is incredible work.  As far as the comments on the metals, I don't see anything wrong with the way they are.  I don't think you should change a thing.  I also wouldn't worry about the shoeless guys.  Shoes get worn out on long marches or maybe they lost them and haven't had a chance to replace them yet.

Just went through the whole thread and I have to say - your army looks mindblowingly good. Great yellow, great combinations of brown and black, I saved all of it to my inspiration folder. Thank you for showing! Have you got any more units you haven't posted yet?

Great painting, as usual! I especially like the yellow trim pattern on the cloth.

The only thing that looks a bit odd to me is the halberd on a mounted figure.

Great yellow
I actually have planned to try out your yellow recipe.  :smile2:

Have you got any more units you haven't posted yet?
I intend to take a photo of my 6:ed handgunners together with the minis I received from ChumpChange in the "pleasant surprise" event, as soon as I have based them to fit in.

After that I have to start paint on a new project I think. I have unpainted knights, 6:ed great swords and a couple if cannons and  and mortars. But I'm also thinking of a war altar. Or maybe the new archers.

Hi

I have now based the two minis I got from ChumpChange (thanks), the Engineer and the marksman. I think they blend in well with my old handgunners.

For completeness sake of this blog I also show what I painted for the pleasant surprice event, even if the painted pics are posted before.

The Kal Jericho model was sent to Moriar. The Pistols come from the outrider sprue.

The Scabbs mini was sent to Lord Soth. The pistol is from the Mordheim sprue.
