Greatsword breastplates
« on: June 17, 2015, 03:56:48 PM »
I've built some models using greatsword pieces and noticed they don't have any shoulder straps for the breastplates. How are they supposed to stay together (inb4 "with glue")? Is there something I'm missing?
Also, pictures of the stuff I've built. The axeman's base isn't done and his weapon is a horrible primer accident but it's not that noticeable in real life. I think the missing straps are more noticeable on him because of the white.
Is their collar supposed to be cloth?

And the models themselves:

I really like the greatsword kit, but I find this odd, especially since I think the knight breastplates (well, the older ones, in general, actually) had straps.

Some mideval knights had breastplates that connected not at the shoulders (they only had hinges there) but under the arms along the side of the body. These were obviously a way tighter fit.

Armour like that on the models was hung from the gorget, which fits around the neck. The figure with pistol is wearing one.
If you check out this site about half way down Jamie in full armour.

Did you do them?
I wish I could get paid for sculpts like that.

The legs are from the militia kit.

I was wondering if the plates are supposed to connect with the gorget. It's not very clear in the pictures or on the site, but the collar thing doesn't connect to anything on the back, which is why I didn't paint it metal. Since it leaves a gap on the back, the stuff around it doesn't look like straps.

To be honest I would just sculpt a simple strap out of greenstuff

Franz Volker, on an unrelated note, do you mind explaining what you did to paint that white? I've had a Reikland army for a couple of years and the idea of painting a 'clean' white is still intimidating.

Jaime isn't wearing a gorget, only a cuirass (and some other stuff).

Thanks! I use them as adventurers in WFRP.

You think the white came out ok? Thanks :D
It's my first proper attempt at doing it. I used vallejo colours, khaki as a base and then mixed it with increasing amounts of offwhite. I used agrax earthshade where it met other colours.
I badically followed this tutorial, but didn t use iraqui sand cause I was low on it:

I painted 4 models following that tutorial. I ll upload pictures tomorow cause I m at a wedding atm.
