The Engineers of Hochland (plus some Halflings)
« on: February 08, 2010, 03:40:43 AM »
Hi Guys

New to this forum but I have been playing around with bits and pieces of Empire for years and have finally stated finsihing some units.

The army is going to be planned around three basic themes

* Engineers/Steam Punk - lots of guns and machines if possible

* Hochland - I like the red/green colour scheme and am planning to do the basic foot troops in these colours

* Halflings - it's about time the moot pulled it weight . . . .

The bases for the army will be done in a cobblestone pattern to represent the army marching out of the city gates (or retreating rapidly!)

Hope to post some initial pictures up shortly

your avatar is broken, you need to add in the HTML link for it or upload it directly from your computer(best method).

Welcome to the Empire.

Sorry to be such a tease with the Halflings - they are very WIP at the moment.

The first offering so far - Outrider Champion with Hochland Long Rifle

A second Champ with Hochland

Mobile Rocket Launcher - this is a unit 'filler' for an Outrider unit, which is being modelled as a light horse rocket battery (as opposed to the much more immobile Hellstrom). I could also use this as a Hellstrom, with additional seperate figures as the 'crew'

You should lose the integral bases on the cyclists.  It looks like it would be difficult to get them off but I think it would be worth the effort.

It will be impossible to secure them to the plastic base if you do that. What would be better would be to cut a hole in the plastic base and fit the integral base in it. Then use some putty to filll the gaps and smooth it out.

I had thought about removing the metal bases but the figures themselves are cast in a fairly 'bendy' metal and I decided not to risk it.

Difficult - you have gone to a lot of trouble with your 'stone' effect bases and the metal base on the model does detract from a very unusual unit.

I have recently been basing a lot of non-slotta models and after gluing them to a 20mm base, or cavalry base in your case, I have just used Polyfilla to level up the base. Ok I was going for a muddy or field look, but that type of filler is easy to smooth out and you could probably use some sort of tool to scribe in your stones.

Thanks Midaski - I'll have a think about this and practice on a spare model.

I had painted the bases grey in an attempt to blend it - the other option would be to add some flock and grass and just have them as 'rocks' in the road.

A bit lame but it might look better than the current scheme.
