Does any actually play it? Just want a count of hands amoungst you. I know it is a specialist game and that it isnt actually played all that often by people that do play it but it is such a good game. I think it is the best rules set for a game that GW have written.

Well I play a human team within others and I won our last local league. Me and a few friends are going down to HQ to play in the GT.

Just to plug it, you can download the full (yes I mean they give something away for free!) rules at http://www.bloodbowl.com .

I don't own a team myself because I don't get to play often enough.  But when I do, I usually play with my friend's Halfling team.  Gotta love treemen.

lol, flings are great. If you can get a league going in your area or there is already a league then get involved. You can make teams on the cheap, I bought an entire gobbo team by converting the plastics and using a river troll. The only plastic BB teams are humans and orcs though unfortunatly and the rest of the teams are metals.

I play, I run a small league among my friends. It's a great game, that appears to be gaining a little popularity which can never be a bad thing.

Heh human teams are good because your oponent can't just group you as a "strenght team" or a "agility team" and they cna get almost every single type of speacle skill. But there is just somthing about tring to win with a goblin team, that makes losing fun :)

I'm not playing yet, but I already made up a human team with spare bitz from several Empire-Boxes. I think they look pretty good, and most of'em look better than the actual Citadel-figs IMHO. I'll have pics of them loaded up sometime today.

I found some pictures, but one comment in advance: As I said, they're made up mostly from spare parts, so the painted parts have nothing to do with an actual colour-scheme, but were taken from other *WIP*-figs... I haven't quite figured out a colour-scheme, but think I will go with my normal Empire army, e.g. burgundy/red, black and white... which also happen to be the colours of my favourite soccer-team... :D

So, here they go:

First off, four Blitzers, I know, pretty offensive for a "humie"-team, but they were the most fun part to assemble ;) (EDIT: Just saw it now: The one on the far left is missing an armour-pad, that will be corrected, of course ;) )

The we have one Thrower and one Catcher

And last but not least, five Linemen (Yes, they all have Space Marine-shoulderpads, which distinguish them from the Blitzers... ;) )

I like your figures hagen. I dont have the imagination to convert entire teams. My best effort was a goblin team where I just bought a box of gobbos and chopped the weapons off added a troll and bobs your uncle.

I'm glad you've chosen humans. They are a fantastic team, my favourite in fact. They have the ability to punch the crap out of the likes of Skaven, wood elves and to a certain extent High and Dark Elves while being able to happily waltz around the defense of an orc or undead team.

For league play always start with 4 blitzers, they are your best players and will run the games for you. I'm usually catious to take only 1 catcher in a starting team as I feel that the strength of 2 is too much of a disadvantage to have 2 players on the pitch with it. Linemen are simple but are good at what they do, get hit and occasionally make a block,  dodge or foul or 2. Throwers are  key for picking up the ball and have the capacity to throw the ball reasonable well. The pros of a human team are that all of their players seem great value for money for the job that they can do.

I'm surprised so many of you play blood bowl, really didn't expect such an idea to gain popularity.
The only good thing about 7th ed heads is that they look particularly inbred and superstitious which is perfect for Stirlanders

Alot of people have this mentality, untill they play the game. Of course quite a few people dont like it, but alot of people I have introduced into the game love it. It in my opinion is far more tactical than WHFB but is far more dicey and so as a result more random, which some people dont like. I've got my tickets for the 2004 bloodbowl GT in Nottingham along with another 200 people I think.

Alot of the figures are very old! From a few edditions ago, and some of them such as the plastic orcs and humans were designed in about 1992 I think. I've just got a brand new necromantic team which includes some fantastic new models of the werewolf and flesh golem. Also the other teams such as the new vampire, norse, amazom, khemri and pro elves are all very good.

The old vamp figure isnt the best I'll have to admit. I think some of the old figures are poor compared to what they're producing nowadays.

I've been playing BB for years and have 3 teams human, ork and undead, I think the undead mummys really pack a punch, setting up mini leagues are great as well as the various skills you get add real charcter to your team.
There's an old army sayin "tough luck for you" - Sergeant Jackrum Tenth infantry otherwise know as the "Ins-and-outs"

Can someone tell me how the game has changed over time?

I played between 1988 and 1992 and loved it. 2nd edition maybe?Styrofoam pitch, Star Players, Companion, and Dungeon Bowl.

How has it changed? It looks pretty different now with money and all sorts of new things.

Thanks for the link to the living rulebook. I just skimmed over it and wow.

Some things are very similar (passing the ball, player positions, star player skills, goblins with chainsaws (didn't see the pogo-sticks though)) and everything else looks wildly different (and far more complex) than the 2nd edition I grew up on and loved. The game has wide zones, lines of scrimmage, completely new blocking and special dice now? Yowsa. This is going to take some time to assimilate.

Can you play a good game in less than 2 hours?

Our first (and until now only :( ) test-game took about 4 hours... considering that me and my friends are constantly doing any kind of bull during a games-session, I think two hours should be fine once You get used to it ;)

I've only been playing since the start of 3rd ed but since then the core game rules have stayed pretty much the basis of the current rules. They're are alot of rules and tricks of the game to learn but after you get to know a few of them you can play a decent game.

If I was trying to get a game played quickly I could plaly in about 45mins as it stands a league game takes about 2 hours. League games can get tense and very strategic as you are playing for team development and league position. Bloodbowl is how chess should be!

Keep playing Hagen and get a mini league going, you'll soon learn to love the game.

Yep, I've been playing bloodbowl for a year or so now. It's a great game, which seems to be making some sort of a comeback. They're even making new figs! This is my team, but I've expanded it by a few guys since this photo was taken.

I ran a mini league for a little while, but there weren't enough people to keep it running properly, and my team was dominating everyone else, so now I just play 1 off games with my friends.

This is a damn shame as a bloodbowl league is possibly the most fun you will have while playing any GW games. It can be tense and tactical but it can also be very fun and some of the plays that can and do come off become legendary in local leagues.

I came 3rd with orcs this season out of 8 player after winning the previous league with humans! My style of play revolves around a fairly bashly play (not quite as much as orcs though) with a nice running play to score. Needless to say I retired my poor orc team after getting a supprising battering against a human team with an ogre with 2 players dead!

Has this topic got any outsiders thinking about playing bloodbowl? If you've read this thread then post and tell me what you think of the game. I'm just trying to figure out whether bloodbowl is a niche preference or a game that appeals to all...

I haven't played since the 2nd edition but I'll try out the new rules sometime this month and report back. (Hopefully they are compatible with the old board... as I'm not going to go out and buy the new one when the old one looks so darn cool!)

I'll be using the "Dwarf Giants" as I used to love to rush them down the sideline (closest to their recovery boxes) in a ground offense.

I also have Human, Elf, Dark Elf, Skaven, and Undead teams so almost anything can happen. My guess is my buddy will take Elves and pass, pass, and pass some more. It could come down to first coin toss.
