Hi folks. Here is a project I started two years ago. The initial intent was to build an army based on Marauder Miniatures only. But as time goes by, I include more and more Citadel models designed by Aly (and sometimes Trish) Morrison.
For the background, I use the sourcebook written by Mad Alfred (http://www.madalfred.com/) for WFRP, where Pfeildorf is the former capital of the Sudenland, and now a Free City.
My first completed regiment is a band of flagellants, or two bands of 8 if you follow the 3rd edition Warhammer armies book.

The second regiment I consider achieved is the militia raised by the most important guilds of the city: cobblers, shearers, tailors and tanners.

The City Watch is not totally finished: I plan to extend it to 32 models, just like the militia (each flag corresponds to a district of Pfeildorf):
Same thing with the mercenary swordsmen. Still an on-going project:

And finally a few shooters:

That's it for the moment :)

Very big welcome to the forum.
Those are beautiful, and I love the tanner, tailors, cobblers and shearers!

Just keep finding more. That guy in the last pic with the split eagle on his shirt. I’ve started a little fire in the basement fueled with my paint brushes.

Well, thank you all! Below some details on the militia and the guild masters of Pfeildorf. You may recognize citizen from the Marauder Miniatures range, a Talisman merchant and old Citadel villagers and Dogs of War. The shield bearers are slightly converted Marauder Miniatures halflings.

I like how the main banner is a collection of four sets of other heraldry from some of the shields. :icon_cool: :::cheers:::
-
Is that a teapot on his shield? This is so unique for sure.
-
yep. Stole it from a Gary Chalk's illustration :)

The teapot shield is great

And here are some details of my flagellants:

Face tattoos and the lot! How do you do it? It’s almost too much for me to throw some wash on and hope for the best. (Hope being the key word and usually wasted)😸

That guy with the bell on his back certainly wouldn't be able to sneak up on anyone :-P

love it :::cheers:::

Thanks! As I said before, the mercenary swordsmen are not finished yet. I intend to complement them with fighters from the Marauder MM60 range. The first 10:

Some of these great figures are still available from Wargames Foundry.
https://www.wargamesfoundry.com/collections/ex-citadel-games-workshop-models?page=2
-
Yup. In particular the ugly wizards (or Magic Users) that should have been released by Marauder Miniatures. I have already one painted (the one holding a cup), I still have to find ideas for the other ones!
-
Fantastic painting! These are some of the best looking Empire units I have ever seen (and I'm not even that fond of many of these old models).
I'm curious - how long does it take you to paint 1 miniature? And have you written any painting guides/tutorials by any chance?
Thank you for sharing! :::cheers:::
-
I think I spend a few hours on each model, maybe 4 for a simple one. I wrote a lot of tutorials with my friend Haekel on this website: http://haekel.free.fr/ (http://haekel.free.fr/). But it takes a lot of time, and I gave up when I started my first army of dwarfs (https://jaeckelalone.blogspot.fr/2015/12/2000-pts-painting-odyssey.html).
-
Damn, that NMM work is of so high quality that it took me quite a while to notice that it is, in fact, NMM. First time that happened to me.
-
I'm not normally a big fan of the Marauder sculpts, too far before my time for nostalgia, but then I'd never seen them painted like this before. Your painting style is just perfect for these, making the odd and sometimes slightly comical proportions seem intentional, like the lovely illustrations on the covers of the older Discworld novels. Plus I love that you put so much thought into the backstory of the units, the guild militia is amazing.
Truly special.
-
soooo much awesome goodness here, both in the great figures and even greater paint job, good organizing of units/figures in them. it really makes me miss the good old golden days. thanks for sharing! steveb

GOSH!

Thanks again. Last details on the (almost) completed units: the City Watch (actually the Guild of Lamplighters and Watchmen). So far, the regiment gathers elements from two separate districts: Mórrsfeld and Söllhafen. Mórrsfeld is the district where the prison of St Quintus stands: excellent opportunity to paint an executioner (the ogre), the warden (the guy holding keys), a jailer and the chief interrogator, plus a few guards.

As you can see below, I've changed my mind with the standard bearer: on the left, the initial one (painted before the completion of the second district), on the right, the final one (painted with the same colors as Söllhafen's standard):
Speaking of Söllhafen:

And the crossbowmen (note that the guy in the center of the 1st picture is an unreleased Marauder model):

Unbelievable paint job on marauder relic. :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
Where your war hounds are came from ? Maurauder citadel too ?
-
Yes, the hounds are also Marauder Miniatures: they were associated with the Dark Elf beast masters MM73 (http://www.solegends.com/marauder/mm73dehounds.htm).
-
These are all fantastic full stop it is funny how the unreleased models are often the ones that catch your eye as being really good.
-
The 3 last models painted for a regiment of foresters:

Outstanding work! Love those old Marauder Miniatures.

Thanks! And here are my latest painted models:

Really nice collection and outstanding paintjob! Sorry if I have missed that, but what type of colours do you use?
Thanks for sharing and keep it up! :smile2:
-
I've never seen OOP so well painted.
-
Gorgeous, and good to know some of those figures are available through Foundry! :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
Beautiful work! I love the halflings and you inspire me to paint mine to a better standard.
-

Well, thank you all! For the colours, I use Vallejo references mainly, but also a few Army Painters, Andrea and P3.

Unreleased marauder minis ! With slottas removed
-
I saw your blog , amazing , I never ever saw your two unreleased marauder minis , and I was obsessed for years .... No one ever located them or listed them on CCM wiki
-
The paintjobs are as outstanding as the nostalgia is strong :::cheers:::
-
Unreleased marauder minis ! With slottas removed
Well, I've succeeded in keeping the slotta for the legionary, but unfortunately not for the crossbowman. As I do not plan to sell them, I don't think it's a big deal in the end :p
-
I saw your blog , amazing , I never ever saw your two unreleased marauder minis , and I was obsessed for years .... No one ever located them or listed them on CCM wiki
Bought them on eBay two years ago I believe. From a guy who also sold the ultra rare Nuln spearman and the Guard Captain... I still have two unreleased Marauder models to paint.
-
Wow, excluding the flagellants I do not know the other pieces, but they are beautiful. Your paint job it's perfect!
-
Well, thanks, glad you like these old models :)
-
Amazing stuff, i just cant believe you cut the slotta TAB's off the unreleased Marauder models! HAHA
In 50 years time, they might be the only surviving models of their type.
You will not be able to proove authenticity.
-
I thought I was Oldhammerer by adding some 3th edition miniatures to my Empire army, but this left me speechless! I think you own many models I'd never seen painted, truly essence of Oldhammer with such cool unreleased models and top painting! Keep it working we want to look through more
Also, welcome to the B&P :::cheers:::

Hi folks,
Here are the latest additions to my regiment of forester: Citadel (Astol the Archer), Marauder Miniatures (the hornblower), Talisman (the Leprechaun) and Warmonger Miniatures (initially an unreleased wizard from Marauder Miniatures):

Love that wizard and his owl. The look on the bird is perfect. Looks like he’s digging in with his claws and the wizard is feeling it 😺
-
I like the crossbowman! :icon_cool: :::cheers:::

:eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Well, what could I say? Superb, breathtaking.
Rare or not, some of the old sculpts are really clumsy. But your painting makes them live and breath.
-Z
-
Thanks! Glad you like them, even the badly sculpted ones :)
-

Great looking additions to the unit. :biggriin:

The unit is complete :)

hmm, well not like I needed food anyway, off to buy a wizard I go

@hamster - 😸👆
Beautiful unit👆
-
Great job
-
Magnificent!
Rarely have I seen such rustic, basic and worn colours painted so vividly. Brings to my mind some Golden Demon Mordheim warbands. Great attention to detail too, but not overwhelming like some professional GW painters do.

respect

Thanks! Glad you like them :) Next step: the baggage train (at least one element)

5 Marauder citizens for the food & supply wagon (not ready yet):

The colours shine, yet the camp followers have a rugged feeling to them. Outstanding!
This time I even love the sculpts, each one of them. Are these something super-rare OOP, or do you get them from the Facebook groups or eBay at a decent price, like five £$€ per mini or the like?
-Z
-
Very, very high standard there. Thumbs up. Absolutely amazing.
On a side note, are the banners custom made from scratch too or ...?
-
It hardly needs saying, but this is amazing work! An awesome project that I'm looking forward to seeing more of! :)

Thanks! No, there is no rare or unreleased model here, you can rather easily find them on eBay. Still it took me some years to get the "turkey girl" at a decent price.
-

Well thanks. I use plastic banners most of the time: Empire or Dark Elves.

I love the Cathayan mini. Great looking set of unique characters, right there. :eusa_clap:

Totally forgot to update this post :( I have added a few members to my Pfeildorf army:
One rank of swordsmen :

That's it!
-
:icon_eek: Simply stunning, very nice army!
Love the old feel, the last Ogre I just got for myself to fill out the ranks of my Spearmen
-
These are breathtaking! Is this all NMM? It's stunning!
-
I really like the Reiksguard with the double colors on their armor, nice work overall!
-
This army is just incredible. It is insane how much better the old sculpts look without RED! everything and goblin green bases. Of course it helps that you are a master painter too. The Reiksguard look really beefy, not all of them are reiksguard sculps? Or are they even older generation foot reiksguard than the last ones?
-
The front rank guy on the left is one of the MM60/61 Fighters, with a plume swap if I remember correctly - but there are some clever weapon swaps of the two Reiksguard releases and again I think some of the plumes have been 'standardised'.
Great unit. :eusa_clap:
-
Hi folks,
You're right, the front guy on the left is a MM60 Fighter. The other 9 are Marauder Miniatures MM65 Reiksguard references, slightly converted, but plumes untouched.
-
I like the hammer swap for halberd one. Very clever.
-
Incredible!
-
Well done! :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
Phenomenal painting! Thank you for sharing! :::cheers:::
-
Thanks!
By the way, Victor, I like your icon or logo. I might borrow it for the standard bearer of the Reiskguard unit :)
-
More amazing models.
I’ve got to ask, what paints/colors do you use for the cream-white cloth?
-
Thanks! The basecoat is a mix of white and Vallejo Extra Opaque Brown, hightlighted with VMC Pale Sand, VGC Bonewhite or VMC Ivory.
-
Nothing new here (except the cannon on the left), but here is a recap of my activities this year...

Happy holidays!
-
Looking just fantastic. Pure gold. I will most likely ripp of a couple of the miniatures and add them to my units
-
What did you use for the cannon; a chariot base?
-
Thanks! The cannon is an old Citadel war machine. No modification here.

-
WHOA :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
-
Fantastic looking army!
What I didn't see in the piecemeal progress was how unified your colour scheme is. The hues vary a lot, but the minis blend together superbly. Care to write a word about how you plan & achieve this, if you haven't already?
Also the bases are great. That mossy green - it's painted mostly directly on the base, or is there some scatter and grass there?
-Z

Thanks! The cannon is an old Citadel war machine. No modification here.

No, I meant it's base; I recognise the model...
-
Sorry. I bought a few 40x60 bases on GW website. No idea of their original use.
-
Sorry. I bought a few 40x60 bases on GW website. No idea of their original use.
Are they still on it; I heard they're gone...?
-
Can't remember. I bought them some time ago, no idea if you can still find some.
-
7th ed Skarsnik and Gobbla used that size base.
Its a great size base - i use 1 on each of my 2 hochland cannons.
-
Amazing work. Simply amazing. The army looks so unified together, yet each regiment is so distinct and individual. Well done!
-
Absolutely beautiful.
-
one word:... Awesome :::cheers::: :::cheers::: :::cheers:::

This is silly good

Thanks a lot. Last addition to my army: the Kanone Batterien

-
Awesome stuff!
-
I like the cannons! :icon_biggrin: :eusa_clap:
-
My army is currently progressing at a very slow pace... Blame the cavalry, it takes a lot of time to get decent results on horses...
OK, this is the result of the last two months: Grand Baroness Etelka Toppenheimer, riding a unicorn, and Commander Baron Ulrich von Burnau, on a more ordinary mount.
The Baroness is a mix of several models: torso from Mordheim Sisters of Sigmar's Matriarch, legs, lance and shield from the Empire General plastic sprue, unicorn from the MM83 High elf mage, and throne from the MB15 Imperial Hero riding a Pegasus.
Before:

and after:

As for the Commander, the preparation was limited to the sculpting of a piece of armour to make the junction between the torso from the Imperial Hero MB15 and the legs of a MM66 Mounted Reiksguard.

:icon_eek:
That baroness....OMG you have some mean skills my friend! This model just screams warhammer. Amazing!

Very impressiv! The conversions are very well executed. And your painting is simply magnificent, but you know that. :icon_wink: :::cheers:::
How long does it take you to paint something like this?

Consistently superb!

Gorgeous painting of those figures! :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

Thats a lot of really cool minis, inspiring!

Thanks, all of you!
How long does it take you to paint something like this?
The matriarch on the unicorn: about one month and a half, but I'm a slow and irregular painter...
-
Very cool conversions spanning the many models of GW! Well done!
-
   absolutely stunning work!

Thanks. I have painted 4 additional knights to support Baron Ulrich von Bernau. The mounted Söllsguard is now complete (at least a first regiment).

I've been reading this forum for a long time and have followed your Pfeildorfer army for quite some time.
Not being active as a user, I enjoyed your marvelous models and painting skills so much that I simply had to post about it! Thanks for sharing your work!
-
Simply amazing as always!
-
OK. Time for an update. Took me some time (4 months) to paint it: the Marauder giant.

very nice work sir :::cheers:::
-
I love how you use the whole range of hues from black to white in each mini, and almost with each colour. Deepest shadow and boldest highlight. It gives this simultaneously earthly and sharp feeling. :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Great metallic effect

I love your army. The figures themselves have a lot of character and your painting and conversion work is also outstanding. Even better that it's a Wissenland army!

Sweet jesus these are awesome. Love the colors you use.

Thanks! I've finally been able to complete my regiment of sellswords:

The unit looks fantastic! Great job! Thanks for sharing. :::cheers:::
-
Hesus...each of these models I feel is prize-winning material, but 24 of them :icon_eek: ???
-
It's the best painted Empire work ever seen ,
But then you cut the slotta TABS off some of the rarest minis ever on earth LOL
You have the Marauder fighter sculpts , never released, only a couple in existence, even Aly and Trish Morrison dont have them LOL
and you cut the TABS off :-P :biggriin:
-
You'll be happy to know that I've been very careful with the unreleased archer. The tab is still under the feet of the model :icon_biggrin:
-
I did the same with my wood elf army, cut off all TABS and mounted direct onto Scibor Temple Ruin Resin bases, but then i realised that you can use a very small drill , and make a cut into the bases and insert the TAB, to any resin base, !!
It just takes time
-
Time to re-animate this post!
I've joined the third Old World Army Challenge (https://oldworldarmychallenge.blogspot.com/) (OWAC), which consists in painting 1000 points of army in 6 months (we're currently at mid-course).
I've started a new imperial army, to paint models that didn't fit in Pfeildorf's theme. A bunch of fools and fanatics who followed Pieter the Pious in Araby and met an unknown but probably fatal fate.
So far, I've been able to paint three regiments:
- Empire citizen:

- Noblemen:

- Pilgrims:

More to come in the next months!
-
Very well done indeed!
-
Bloody incredible!
-
Those are looking very good! :icon_cool: :eusa_clap:
-
Superb!
-Z
-
Very nice units!
-
Incredible work. :eusa_clap:
-
Fantastic painting and great units!
-
I wouldn't ever have imagined those old he cleric sculpts could be made to look amazing , this is incredible
-
Thanks! Some of these cleric models can be a real challenge for the painter :icon_razz:
-
Breathtaking collection and painting skills  I will copy some of your ideas for my small flagellant warband.
-
Fourth month entry to the OWAC III (https://oldworldarmychallenge.blogspot.com/) challenge:
- hermits with guns:
- and a cannon-bell:
-
What’s more dangerous than a fanatic with a club?... wait....
Awesome!
-
Love the Flagellants!
How clever am I? I've finally come up with a possible point of criticism!
These six flagellants have three pairs of virtually identical hair (grey, orange, peppered black). The hair is very well done! But I'd differentiate them a bit. Or a lot.
Also the mortar & crew are excellent. The mortar is from LAM/Bruegelburg? I think I have at least two of the crewmembers. Some day, I'll paint them...
-Z
-
You're right for the hair. To be considered if I convert new hermits. And you're also right about the cannon: produced by Lead Adventure Miniatures, a little bit oversized compared to the old Citadel crew.
-
the quality of painting on display here is immense
-
Incredible!
Can you still buy the lead adventures stuff?
-
So you are a much, much, much better painter than I am. Beautiful work.
-
Incredible!
Can you still buy the lead adventures stuff?
Well, it was still doable end 2019, early 2020 (I can't remember exactly when I ordered this cannon). Unfortunately, I don't see the website where I ordered it anymore. Still, you can follow this link:
https://www.miniaturicum.de/BRU-62-Cannon-Death-Bell-1
but the item is currently not available.
And thank you all for the nice comments.
I've already started next month's entry: Pieter the Pious and zealots carrying the war altar.
-
Can you still buy the lead adventures stuff?
Another place to buy some:
https://shop.battlefield-berlin.de/katalog/showarticles/394/1/bruegelburg (https://shop.battlefield-berlin.de/katalog/showarticles/394/1/bruegelburg)
But the mortar is not abailable there either.
LAM launched a new website/webshop in 2019, but it is now under maintenance.
https://lead-adventure.de/ (https://lead-adventure.de/)
My understanding is that the borthers behind LAM do it for hobby, and have had other responsibilities increasing for a couple of years now. Things move slowly, but I think they're dedicated to get things functional again.
-Z
-
I think you can order their stuff through the Magister Militum website.

This small army is almost done 8-)
-
Stupendous! First crazy awesome filled worries could come up with ! 😺
-
OOH I like him.
I have all the components for the original War Altar, and spares, but I never felt it looked 'right'.
The huge Griffin needed something more substantial I always thought, but your version is quite eye-catching.
-
Strong painting, and four VERY strong carriers.
-Z
-
Ohh so much eye candy...your work is awesome.
-
And the final month of OWAC III challenge: beggars and more monks!

-
Sir what paints do you use?
-
Mainly Vallejo (Model or Game Color), one or two Formula P3 references, The Army Painter shades, and a few GW references (like the Reikland Flesh shade).
-
Lovely work!
I can hardly believe those are originally GW models...
-
Thanks! The challenge is over, the 1000 points are painted. Some pictures of the final result:

Time to go back to Peildorf
-
Really lovely work!
Which units are present?
-
Doesn't matter, as I don't play with them. I've used the following "count as" to make 1000 points.
Monks = halberdiers, knights = reiksguards, beggars = flagellants, war altar = Lvl20 wizard and armed citizen = swordsmen.
-
Absolutely beautiful! I can only dream of having that level of skill.
-
As good as anything I've seen! :::cheers:::
-
Looks great all grouped together like that! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::

Truly incredible work. :eusa_clap:

I have that exact figure and he will be part of my Bretonnian warband.
He isn't that well painted, far from it! I love those old style figures.

Is that a wizard with the halfling?
-
Yup. C2 wizard, designed by Aly Morrison. I'm using him as a merchant.

Beautiful :eusa_clap:
Second from the right is my favorite. That guy has attitude.
Sometimes with those old sculpts though...I mean even in 1985 it must have been obvious that some of those feet look run-over-by-truck. Do you think this has to do with limitations in technology, maybe something off in the mold making and they couldn't affort/be bothered to fix it? Or is that on purpose? Heroically pancake feet?
-
Well, usually, nobody cares about the feet :)
-
Seen lots of comments on Stirlanders not wearing shoes, and the barefooted figure on the 7th edition State Troops sprue. :icon_wink:
