Title: Painting and modelling competition 2013 entries thread.
Post by: warhammerlord_soth on January 04, 2013, 07:24:02 AM: In view of the successes of last year, the painting competition continues.

Themes for 2013 :

Januari : Witch Hunter
Februari : Converted Elector Count (preferably with no existing figure)
March : Siege Cannon ( A BIG great cannon with 5 crew)
April : Converted Caster (Wizard/WP/AL etc...)
May : Unit (at least 10) of State Troops.
June : Militia Unit (at least 10)
July : Grand Master of a Knightly Order
August : The Emperor
September : Unit of Missile troops
October : Artillery piece
November : Demigryph unit
December : Inner circle knights

Entries can be made by replying in this thread. Maximum of 3 entries per forum member(Sorry Steveb).

NO OTHER REPLIES HERE PLEASE, or I disqualify you !

Hacked this guy up from a Foundry highwayman, with a headswap, weaponswap, and some putty, he came out not half bad for a quick fun project, mostly done just so I could participate in this. :)

She is - of course - the Asdrubael Vect slave girl (the Sister of Battle) with her left arm removed and replaced with an Amazon arm from Wargames Factory. I trimmed off the chains, leaving the manacles as bracelets. The bearers are from the Crocodile Games Spartan War Altar set (ironically enough, despite being from different companies, the three models are all sculpted by Chris Fitzpatrick!) A few bits of plasticard, brass rod, a sequin, green stuff and a sword and the job is a good 'un.

The liver in her hand and on the dish is sculpted as a sheep's liver, and she is lying on a sheepskin. A friend of mine said the unpainted version of her looked like Eartha Kitt, and so I was inspired to paint her with a very dramatic, very dark African, skintone. I think it looks really dramatic, especially against the white bikini and the rest of the Caucasian army. The skintone is simply black highlighted up to Vallejo Charred Brown (Scorched Brown in the old GW paint range).

....I think I need a paper light box. I spent alot of time highlighting my grand master and it doesn't really show up. Especially on the feathers and most of the gold. And the black armour is a mix of black and metal but it just looks like its shiny from the lighting instead of the mix.

My karl franz is almost done and I think I'll make a light picture box for him. Because he's done in the same color scheme.

Oh, well. I guess a score of 6.66 is better than a score of nothing for not submitting.

warhammerlord_soth: Is there a guide or whatever as to how these are rated? Just curious as to wear I'm getting docked points.

I am sure you figure looks better in real life, but then the other entry most likely looks better in real life also. I was trying to finish this guy with his griffon but just didn't have time. Only got to the handle highlights and silver highlights. But I love how the light shines off the armour in the pictures so I figured I'd show him off.

The more observant of you will notice that the leader has gained a pet goblin since the earlier shots. This is due to him entering a contest entitled ‘Duel’ where the goblin had unbuckled his saddle and was about to unseat him. All buckled up securely again now with goblin hanging on to the straps like the 92nd Highlanders and Scot’s Greys at Waterloo.

Me too. I haven't been able to participate much this year, but now that my Undead project is done, I'm planning on focusing at least a moderate amount of my energy on Empire this next year. I'm always happy to contribute when its possible to get my projects aligned with the monthly goal.

Perhaps fornext year, as well as stickying the entries thread, where you're not supposed to put comments, you could also sticky the comments thread. And that thread can get people talking about themes they may want.
