Neato! Can we see more soon? Oh and those spears look wierd btw
-
:::cheers::: really great stuff those look fantastic and even have the right province.
-
Very neat Zak. I would be proud to game with these as is. They are what I call, a bit more than a table top ready army. I am not a big fan of the old school all green & totally flocked bases though but I guess its a matter of taste :::cheers:::
-
Thanks for the comments please all feel free to comment...i grew up flocking the base all green and i stuck with it... i like the creative base ...but i guess I'm just old school hahaha
bring on the big guns :biggriin:

-
Two things I love the most are your shields which really stand out and the wonderful spears.
But the army as a whole is very tasty. Gotta love those greatswords (Reiksguard)!
-
OK....here are my favorite part of the Empire :engel:

:smile2:
-
I love your spiral shafts, how do you achieve that result so neatly? steveb
-
Thanks Steveb for your comment...its just something you have to practice over and over again i only started to leave it when i was able to get a good result..i hold the tip of the lance and than just slowly turn as i hold the paint on the shaft than go back over it with the darker color. i also use a high light color to bring the swirl out some
-
Wow... I really love these cavalery units. Especially the lances of your knights look great with that flags you have put on them. And you have a really huge unit of pistoliers there. What about increasinf the number of outriders to 15 as well?
What can I say...? :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:
-
SURE 15 outriders would be ideal!! but honestly i hate painting them i don't know why the pistoliers (no problem) but i see the usefullness of having large units of outriders after reading some of you all's posts about them....hey thanks for the complements

-
This unit of rieksguard was my first unit painted a long time ago. I still have three old battle masters as part. I have repainted it many times over. recently i purchased old Vampire Counts "blood knights" horse heads. i added them and ..well here they are..
(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff003-2.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-2.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-2.jpg)
-
I had to replace this wizard's horse, with a Brittonian warhorse. I have never liked the horses given to the Imperial wizards anyway just finished this morning :biggriin:(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-3.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-3.jpg)

Im looking to start a hoard army ...looking to start to paint 90 free company figs starting with this guy

(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-6.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-5.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff003-4.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff004-2.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff005-3.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff006-1.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff007-2.jpg)
-
90 it is to much ::heretic::
-
I have heard some rumours that the new edition will be about HUGE regiments. Therefore 90 sounds just fine - as long as you play them as a detachment . I am looking forward to seeing them painted. That should be an impressive unit. Fear the mighty miltia, for the Emperor's sake.
-
I heard that also but 90
-
Sure three units of 30 full command maybe lead by a warrior priest flanked by knights …I went up against a dwarves gun line…when I hit the line I did not have the strength to do much, but 90 cheap models soaking up shot or shooting up the knights ……..I WANT to win without two tanks and a war alter, anyway 30 models for 150 points!! thats awesome :-P
-
Really like your armies, I can even see some progress in painting too, especially on the last heroes. This free company dude looks really cool, definetely go for 90 of tehm.
-
90 is not bad. I have 120 militia models (Only have 70 built so far)
I was going to do a pirate army, then it became a stirland army, now it is Averland. So, whatever I decide to do with them in the future, milita rock.
Great job on the army so far, I love what you did for the old 6th ed. banners.
-
Hey thanks for the positive feed back so fare.........................ok one of my favorite units is these crazy loones...I have every flaggelint from 4th-7th in this unit. i created the banner for a game at the last minute in 1998 just love it and never felt the need to change
(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-5.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-4.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff003-3.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff004-1.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff005-2.jpg)

Lord Luke was a third son of a minor noble, right before the great storm of chaos.....Their lands ravaged and utterly destroyed Young Luke gathered what was left of his manor guard and went hunting the unfortunate chaos stragglers...soon a reputation of his gorilla tacktics became known to Count Todbringer and was commissioned title of Captain of the 7th Halberds. Luke not having much like of uniforms wares minimal but his discipline is second to none........................ (http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff024-2.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff025-1.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff026-2.jpg)....SO yeah just finished this unit today , well modified it from past figs. OK today I'm working on my new BSB for The Talabheim troops using mostly the Great sword parts with the older Plastic soldiers Command legs
(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-8.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff003-5.jpg).. so any suggestions :smile2:
Ok adding to this slide to show the progression of painting this BSB ,,finished it :::cheers:::

-
Very nice ... Those legs are one of my favourite pieces and I can't seem to find them anywhere...
I don't have any big suggestions...
I'd only give him some kind of sword in scabbard or a dagger.
-
That is all so wonderful it inspires me to paint more. How many years have you been working on those? I just finished my General- helborg model- and adding it all up it took 14 hours of my life! Once I thought it was done, the friggen sword broke off and wouldn't re-glue. ::heretic:: Then I had to drill a hole in his hand and stick a nasty looking morning star in there and the base broke off in the process. So to me, your army looks like a lifetime of work.
My favorite by far are the Wizard and Captain on Pegasi. The lance striping is awesome. If you still have your old Battlemasters game you should pull the tower out of it for 8th editions magic item tower. I ruined half of mine as a kid and ordered a complete one on E-Bay and combined them for the goodies. Keep looking for the Teutogen, they are out there, I have a group of 20 with full command by using Ar-Ulric as the champ then converting the command blister guys a few times.
-
There is some great stuff in here. I really like those older dwarfs, now some shields on them would be nice :-)
The top of that BSB is a little strange
-
Hey thanks for the positive feed back...yes I'm still going to one day have a unit of Teutogen guard, but for now its all good. I had the Tower from the old battle masters but it went the way of the Do Do a while ago. ( would love to get another) I have been collecting and painting since 1993-94 ...OH man if i could write all the heart break times when a figure just broke or was lost/stolen it would be a large book ...lol ...i also took your suggestion ...(silver wolf) and added a sword on the BSB :::cheers:::
(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-9.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-7.jpg) these units are now finished :smile2:
-
Very nice army! The diversity is really charming. My favourites are the flagellants they look wonderfully mad.
-
Thanks again for the positive feedback to you all!!!
So I'm sitting here looking at the old units i painted over 10+ years ago and I'm thinking about repainting them and updating them some..inspired by my wife insistence to update and remodel our kitchen, which we did!! painting models and painting walls are very different. ANYWAY I'm starting on the old 6th edition plastic swords (Middenland)
-
Wow! Great stuff. I think the banners are especially impressive, but really, it's all good :smile2:
-
hey thanks....................
OK i finished re-painting this unit, updating the swords and some of the more horrible looking heads, i also had to place ol'monkey head for nostalgia i guess.... anyway what do you think :::cheers:::
This old swordmen unit......(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff024.jpg)
The newer updated one........(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff004-3.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff003-6.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-8.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-10.jpg)....................OK :smile2:
-
I like it but do you use citadel wash set
-
Very nice looking units, I appreciate, the effort you put in creating interesting unit champions, who add a certain interesting accent. Also like the banners, especially the blue towergate. I might copy that for my army, which is also mainly Middenheim/Talabheim...
..on the side note: I noticed how all the faces have a slight yellowish hue to them. Is it because of the lighting or you painted them that way?
Good work thou!!
-
Thanks for the feedback gentlemen!!
Not sure why the skin tone is yellowish ..does not look like that on the model, guess its the photo.
here is were i get those banners from ....do not know who original posted it but who ever you are..your my hero!!

Well now that the BSB is finished....((here he is in his unit)) ........ I need to work on finishing the GS and also the swordmen (Talabcland) :eusa_wall:
-
Added a new Swords Sargent or hero or what ever :icon_rolleyes:
-
Neato! Can we see more soon? Oh and those spears look wierd btw
I remember the old units... I like the older state troops better 'cause they look more uniform. And I like the big hoplite shields better too! :::cheers:::
Very nice army. @zak, like the avatar too man! Good to know there's a fellow American on here. 8-)
-
Not only am i an American but live in the great state of Arkansas :icon_wink:................ thanks to everyone for your positive comments so fare

There's quite a few Americans on here. I am one of them, even if I have British habits...(tea everyday, Dr. Who)
-
Seriously one of the best parts of this sight is the diversity of folks all talking about warhammer..especially the Empire :::cheers:::
-
Did not like the way the sword arm looked on this guy so i replaced it with a knights arm..................what do you think :::cheers:::
-
He looks even better now...
-
It's great for the champ. I use them on some of my foot and a lucky detachment keeps getting upgrades.
As a visual effect I used the sword can be raised so it's pointing at the enemy and it appears that the champion is staring "down the barrel" if you will. Looks great and in my experience it hasn't gotten in the way of units forming for combat.
It looks like you gave him the full plate shield arm too. Good for conformity critics.
I have yet to post my pics but I used the same head as my unit champ in my spears and no matter how i painted it it looked horrible. Finally I changed the unit to something .... awesome but silly. You made the head look cool. GJ!
-
You paint fast!
Realy, fast!
-
I due paint fast this is why!! I worked for a guy who own many different businesses and one was a game shop.. He started to get into warhammer and knew i loved the game so he hired me to run games and run the store. UNFORTUNATLY he hated painting and so i also painted up his army for him. SO i had to paint and fast produced some sort of quality product. He became so engrossed into warhammer i ended up painting 2000 points of every army to place in a huge display case he had built. from 1996 until 1999 i worked there and painted none stop for this guy and than kept my own army up to date when i got home. I also went to school somewere in between. :eusa_wall: I hated painting for him so much that i became fast so i could concentrate on games more than painting for an ungrateful turd burglar.......
-
Oh what a rare find....i was digging through some old boxes and came across a cache of old miniatures...these guys in particular, so now i have a unit of thirty I'm converting into spearmenw/shield full comand :::cheers:::
Before (http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-12.jpg) ( infact the very first miniturs i painted..besides battle masters)
After (http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-15.jpg) removing the head will be tricky but worth it, than just repaint snf detail a bit ......so is it worth it? :biggriin:
-
Yay for Battlemasters! I have about 40 spare archers and 15 spare men at arms from combining some broken BMaster Gamesets. The spears work remarkably well and it looks like you had extra shield emblems you cut the knob off of and glued to their bear shield. :eusa_clap:
Because of the slight size difference in models you could call them halflings if you keep the original heads.
-
When Battle masters first came out... it flopped so the local toy store was selling them 5.00 bucks a box so i bought like 5 box sets, well GW later on came out with there first plastic Empire box set ( which you see here) and i had to snatch it up as well. I slowly replaced the battle masters selling some for a bit of profit....anyway i posted the command I'm going to use as a size comparison, i think the size will work out fine for the unit compaired to the rest of the army ...hey thanks for your comments :::cheers:::
-
I just finished 10 of these bad boys ..i have to admit they were fun to convert and paint or repaint. just 20 more and these will be complete...what about the banner, not sure about it? :::cheers:::(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-17.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-13.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff003-9.jpg)
-
The banner looks good, except that the Eagle should be upright and not on its side. I don't believe I've ever seen a banner or heraldic device with an animal prone like that.
-
I'm afraid I agree with Delthos.
-
Why did you remove the shields?
-
I'm afraid I agree with Delthos......is that mean you do not like the banner?
I'm going to put the shields back on in time just do not know what color I'm going to due them in...i think the Shields withthe eagle looks good withthe banner :::cheers:::
-
I think you misunderstand us. It's not that I don't like the banner, I just think it would look better with the eagle upright instead of laying on its side.
-

:icon_lol:
..........great army I should add........
-
I think i agree with you all about the eagle up right ...problem is its made that way maybe it was suppost to go on some sort of cross pole hummmm...hey thanks for the complements :::cheers:::
-
I added the old shields back onto the newer remodels figs. question should they remain blue with a white eagle? I'm thinking leaving the eagle white but painting the shield red...... :::cheers:::(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-18.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-14.jpg)
-
The white looks good. You may want the field to be something other than blue since the clothes or banner don't have blue. Yellow maybe? I was gonna say red but the it would be too much red in the unit.
-
OK finally finished with the spears, i went with red shields and left the eagle white ..over all i think they turned out OK....Comments?
(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff046.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff047-1.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff048.jpg)
-
I think they looked better with blue shields. The red is a little overwhelming now.
-
I think they looked better with blue shields. The red is a little overwhelming now.
+1
-
I think from a distance it won't look overwhelming. It is a tabletop game. Someone will look and go -"Oh, those guys must be from Talebheim. How did you get the white so crisp?"
-
Looks good to me. Keep the shields red.
-
hey thanks for the feed back i know the picture the red looks over whelming but on the table they look good IMO. leaving the shield blue looked to Altdorf ....anyway on to the next unit :::cheers:::
-
hey

OK finished the unit filler for the flagellants making it a unit of 40...technical 33 but got to love the filler concept anyway what do you think....
(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-21.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-16.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff003-11.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff004-7.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff005-7.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff007-5.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff008-4.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff009-4.jpg)...i had to add to my original blog as an on going display :::cheers:::
-
Nice work and concept, I just want to know how a man in stocks managed to get up on top of that tall column?
-
Nice work, but I think flagellant units can only have 30 models at maximum....
-
i keep hearing that they can have more now, to ignore the old limit in the book...well if i can only have 30 there are 30 based miniatures in the unit the rest are attached to the filler....how the guy got up there in stocks?? when your crazy you can do amazing things ...lol
-
Grate unit,
I like the statue and the flagellant on the column. A little like Quasimodo.
:::cheers:::

-
Hey thanks fbjorn,, i always appreciate when i get a complement from an excellent painter/converter like your self..have always enjoyed your painted models.

finished the light wizard ..thinking i might need to wash it with a very light black wash ???
(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff001-23.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff002-18.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff003-13.jpg)(http://i585.photobucket.com/albums/ss300/zak-m/warhammerstuff004-8.jpg)

Looks fine, but you are right ..use the black wash over white to add some shading and some red or ogryn flesh over face to add expression.
-
I personally wouldn't use a black wash over white. I think it would look messy and unnatural. I'd either paint or wash a light grey such as Fortress Grey into the recesses and then clean up with Skull White afterwards.

True, but I was going the easy way, since grey wash has to be mixed first. If you thin the black wash further with water it becomes very fluid and stops only in the cracks, so it doesn't stain the rest of the surface. Afterwards you can apply few layers of white glaze as well.
-
Mix Asurmen blue and Devlan mud, makes a very nice grey wash.
-
HEY thanks for the comments..looking into given him a wash with light blue/gray mixture will post when done....BUT what about changing the red to blue with a ice blue high light????
-
I really like your unit filler here. The old heroes that are a little more static make great statues. Can I ask, how did you paint him? I am wondering because I would like to paint up a statue for scenery.
-
hey thanks for the complement.....I based it in black and simply dry brushed tin bitz than Wash it with a green wash ( gives it a old coppery look) than a very light dry brush of bolt gun....very simple :::cheers:::
-
I very much like what you did with the old unipose halberdier models. Now I wish I could find some for myself and steal your idea :D
-
Thanks for the complement ...but it was not my Idea i stole it from some one ells..THATS WHY i love this sight...so many great ideas :::cheers:::

Very nice looking Steam Tank Zak. I just got one inadvertently as a bit package buy (never really looked at buying one) of Empire troops so yours is a good example of how to go about painting one up.
Cheers!

The matriarch certainly has that look, doesn't she.
As usual, nicely done!
-
The saluting captain model is radical. I like him especially much!
-
Where did you get the saluting captain? I've not seen that one before. or is it a conversion? Very nice if it is.
-
He's a direct sales figure from GW.
You will find him in the 'Collectors' section as one of two 'duellists':

that other knight with a red plume..what is it?
-
It is an old talisman board game hero if I reckon correctly. I need to find me one of those. Nice paint job zak :eusa_clap:
-
yes, its a old talismen character. Im wanting to do a unit of foot knoights all from different lands who have banded together and formed a elite unit. IM going to use the great swords rules for them. I wish they old rieksguard foot knights rules were still around.

-
I would put him in a unit of Sisters of Sigmar... I don't think any men of the Empire or other Ogres would feel comfortable with him around :biggriin:

See this guy dares you to make fun of him!! lol... OK i finished the dude and put him with his friends, also finished a fire wizard to boot :::cheers:::

I really love the robe on the wizard nice and fiery! Though the rest of the model (besides the globe/sphere) could use some more highlighting. I think some silver/metal additions to the ends on the gold staff top would look nice.

Hi Zak, I have just come across your Army Blog today, and I started going through it, and here are my comments.
Your stuff looks really nice. I like it a lot. Some really nice looking old minis in your collection, which some I have and some I don't, but you have a LOT of them. I am a big fan of the old minis too, and I wish I had more.
i guess I'm just old school hahaha
There is absolutely nothing wrong with being old school. It is my favourite thing to be, in this hobby.
Here are some of my comments (in no particular order)
1. I like how you have placed shields leaning on your war-machines, this is a nice touch. I may need to "steal" it, when I get around to painting my war-machines.
2. I also like all the banners in your block of mounted knights, it makes them look very colourful, which suits knights perfectly.
3. Every time I scroll down, your thread, I keep finding minis, which I really love, and all nicely painted too, which is nice to see.
4. I was pleasantly surprised to see some Dwarfs and ogres in the mix of empire figures.
5. The Battle Masters conversions are excellent. The original heads on those figs are so ugly, that I have never bought any. But seeing how wonderful they look with a simple head swap, I think I will look at getting some.
6. I like your collection of wizards.
7. The last lot of Empire Ogres are some of my absolute favourite minis of all time. I never would have dared to paint any of them with a pink colour scheme. But the white and pink is so gorgeous, that I am so going to paint one of mine the same colour scheme. Thanks heaps for the inspiration.
Overall this is an absolutely fantastic blog.

Very nice, I have a lot of models, but have trouble finding time/motivation to paint them all. Nothing like this many though. Good work!

Hey thanks guys, it’s a hobby I love. I’ve been collecting and painting since 1994 its meditative for me to paint and sort out the voices in my head hahaha. Plus I have am awesome wife who may not understand the hobby but supports my love for it. ( shout to her) Anyway I think I have maybe a 1/3 of steveb stuff LOL! He do be the master collector/painter in my opinion!! Anyway thanks for the comments. :::cheers:::

Did you beat me on the old steam tank wheel option last week? Potentially you bastard...if not well then nice job.....
On a serious note either of the larger Steam tank wheels look so much nicer on most kits, I mean I can stand the hour glass spoke off the new War Altar/Wizard Wagon kit but the solid one bugs the shit out of me. The Steam tank metal or plastic wheels are so much nicer and a better scale than the default GW plastic wheels.
-
yeah i guess i did  lol ...i agree looks much better :::cheers:::

Unless Zak has 40 sides of the wra wagon ...................... :engel:

whos the halfling model 4 in from left, with 2 daggers , the funky helmet, painted red ?

Erm yes what Mids said exactly............lol unless your wagon has 40 sides as last time I checked it occured to me that it only had 4 :icon_lol: but yeah $300 Taiwan dollars is ok with me as well
-
I don’t think I have the sides of the warwagon anymore, if I Do Steveb and if you want them I can do a trade for them. The Halfling with the funky red shirt is the Mordenheim cook I think. The majority of these Halflings where already painted so I’m painting over them including that guy.
i do however still have an unopen war-wagon setting around here someware ..dont think it has 40 sides though :closed-eyes:

It's niggling at me but perhaps loosing the back of the horse saddles may look a little nicer? I mean it works now but they stick up for no reason have that seem...maybe without them it would look better?
I mean it is damn nice as is but that oddly bothers me.

Seems like a good way to waste time at 3am...
Might be worth doing something about a backdrop picture, to enhance the look of shots like this next time you can't sleep. I say this as something I have been meaning to get around to myself, so don't ask why I haven't got any backdrops either. :closed-eyes:
-
yeah I was thinking that it would look better to have a back drop ...but of what ??? :eusa_wall:

It looks like you allready have everything, so why not invest in a GW gaming board?
-
As for the backdrop i guess you wife! :engel: :icon_twisted:
Now that is a sweet army and buildings you have damm nice to see a fully painted army. But if i may be so bold a bit more color or a break in the silver on youre DGK the get a bit of a bland look with all metal imo. Plz more pictures. :smile2:
-
hey thanks for the comments guys...I never thought about that on the DG I will look into it sir :::cheers::: Im not a big fan of the GW game boards but I plan on adding forests ( train scenery) and a hill or two and a few more buildings.
-
your army makes me think that you might be trying to overwhelm the Empire and take the throne. think of it throngs of people yelling hail ZAKMAR! awesome army well done. steveb

Table full of Coolness!
Almost wish you didn't have to take them out of the table hum?
for sure, I was able to get a glass cabinet for them but my kids would have destroyed them if they where to be left out...they keep a strict watch for the day I let my guard down and they have free access to them  that would be a dark day hahaha
-
I recently put my dudes in a cabinet to guard against the aggressive thirteen pound that has taken up residence at the behest of my fiancee.
-
Know what you mean all too well!
Back in the day, a few moons ago, I remember trimming my father's brushes with a pair of scissors that were left within my reach!
Also remember assembling a model kit with glue for shoes, even after I was warned not to touch it! Damn thing was just standing there in the table...
-
Ok I was able to get started by putting the House tower together ( this required green stuff to fill in gaps) I also was able to get my Luminark wagon together/under coated. I'm going to use Bretonnian horses and save the armored ones for knights. ** note look at all the cool extras you get in the box set ***

the white wolves are classy and classic! have you thought about converting up a musician?

Wow, I really love those classic WW. They way you painted them fits those models perfectly.
These are even harder to find then Teutogen Guard. I really wish I had a unit. Good job on pickin them up for 20.

I picked them up and also a war wagon for a total of $20 bucks at a yard sale me and the wife stopped by one Saturday afternoon three years ago ( THE BEST GW PICK YET!) the lady stated that her son used to play and he was in the army or college ( forgot) and she was cleaning out his room. she said she had other stuff and I offered her additional funds if she would call me and go through it first but she never called me back...I often wonder if her son came back home and flipped out!! I know I would have :engel: ..NOW ...if any of you happen to be this ladies son I will state the legal stance ( Finders Vs. Keepers ) :-P

You raise a valid point. It's ridiculous how much new stuff has been published in the 22 years since that kit came out and yet we still do not have new standard barded horses.

Why oh why does this never happen to me!?!
Really got a nostalgic sting in my gut looking at those boxes. Too bad one can only unpack things like that once...
BTW: I think you may have the wheels on your Luminark mixed up. Looks a bit wonky.

Fixed it. I hate the old horses, but think the bodies of the plastic knights are very versatile and still hold up pretty good.

the horses are very old I believe they are even older than the box set I OPENED!! haha yeah seriously they need to redo them.... I 've used them so much it would be weird to have new ones

The Command Group range of miniatures are some of the best Empire figures they made. My personal favourite is 'Hero with Sword 2' but the 'Hero with Halberd' comes a close second.
Lovely paint job, he looks great :::cheers:::

This is General Baron von Düsseldorf final expedition log account ( record discovered by a trading expedition east of Ostermark) Day 45, had to hang all military officers for insubordination. Day 56 promoted the flagellant band leader to captain and military advisor, as he is the only person to make sense in this hostel land. Day 79 they keep watching me eat , might have to hang those powder monkeys. Day 80 hung the powder monkeys. Day 98 witnessed a mighty dwarf horde poring into a valley, advisor says we should attack at once based on they are really Orcs with fake beards. Day 99 we attack!!! ...last entry in his log

Love you Bugman! That banner looks really good with him! This makes me want to paint mine up. I've had him and several rangers sitting on my shelf, unpainted, for quite a while now. I think I just needed some great inspiration. Thanks!

Great pictures, they bring a sense of life and narrative to your models.
One day, maybe I will find time and money for scenery as well as armies!?
-
This is great, I bought a load of the warhammer scenery about a year ago when I got back into painting and this has finally convinced me to put paint to them. The army pics look brilliant against the backdrop of the scenery.
-
Great pics. Fun stuff! :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

The knights are amazing, best Empire knights I've seen. I like the idea that they all look individual. Also love the war altar, great stuff.

thanks guys for the complement...........the knights came to me after a game of warhammer fantasy RPG I ran into a freelance knight and thought I would love to do an entire unit of freelance knights from different chapters some have been disgraced, others units have been destroyed and they have just joined together, stuff like that. Eventually I want a unit of 20 right now im at 16 :::cheers:::

I agree, those knights are great. I too am starting to go for the more individual look with my models. Keep it up.

...and that's like 20 years of ogres you got there. good job collecting. I know quite a few people like those old ogres on the right but I find them rather dodgy. there I said it! my favorite generation are the chunky ones from 4th edition, you've got at least one in the very back. must have to do with when we all started. The first (ogre) love is the deepest.

I love the old Marauder Ogre models and the citadel ones has well. Hey thanks for the complements guys. I see what you mean the wall does give a more cool temp feel to the photo's but I still would like a poster of sorts behind. :::cheers:::

Argh! No! Poor old Stank! And such a beautifully painted one as well - love the name on the scroll. More to the point though, hope the little one is ok! Old metal Stanks are pretty darn heavy!

Don't let the cuteness fool you the wee one can lift a tank and smash it with the strength of 50 gorillas :icon_eek:

I think you should build a small diorama around this.
That would actually be amazing! The guy on the right is pointing at the impending doom of the giant child's hand which looms on the horizon, intent on destruction...
-
Obviously, the damage has already been done, and he is pointing to the culprit: "She did it!". The engineer on the left is shaking his fist in impotent rage. That or he is actually happy about it ("Yes!"): maybe he is suffering from claustrophobia and hates having to work in a steam tank?

I too would be afraid to work in that potential sauna of death on wheels.

OK found these old school figures.... Forrest patrol

Looks like he's making shadow hand puppets. Ah, the things you do to pass the time when your Stank breaks down!

Oh man, those Kislev are awesome! So jealous!
The piebald horses look fantastic, I might steal that idea for a couple of mine! :)
You've reminded me, I need to get hold of some shields for all my Lancers/Gryphon legion as I currently don't have any!

thanks dude, I would love to transfer the horses to use the chaos marauder ones but that's maybe in the future. I decided to use this horse design to distinguish them from the Empire horses. :::cheers:::

Looking splendid. Nice to see the banner got changed from White Wolf to Reiksguard as well.
yeah, in the storm of Chaos saga (that never happened) I copied the banner from the book because my army was from Middenland. My excuse was it was a chapter from Middenland but I really never liked it, so when I upgraded the unit ( this week) I changed the banner to show proper respect. Interesting note, this unit was my very first metal unit I bought back in 1994-95. It cost me around $30.00 for the unit of 20 plus command. :::cheers::: hey thanks for the compliments gents :smile2:
-
Great unit, great painting.
I see you changed the feathers from red & white to red. Makes the colours stronger, and balances the added bronze/gold detail on the armour.
Do you have that display board & scenery permanently set up?
-Z
-
No, but I have it all right on top of the two glass cabinets with my figures in them. Scenery on the top of the book case so I can throw it down snap photo's etc. I have to be quick though because the kids can bust in a sack the entire set up fast ...thus the steam tank fiasco :-P
-
They look great! I've started going back and re-painting some of my initial "attempts". It's doubly nice because you tend to get attached to those first few units that you painted and you also get to see them looking better! Double-win! Great job, dude! :::cheers:::

Yeah you do get attached to these guys ( so sad) I have had this unit through my entire military career, college, family, going back to college many states ,countries, etc. Tornado!! my house was fine but still :-P I do love to repaint the old units freshen them up, its like remodeling your house it is just a nice thing to do. :::cheers:::

Great work :::cheers::: :::cheers:::
The older models are so much cooler then todays.
Insanely jealous about all those great Kislevites.

@zak: That's an old General model. I believe his name was Rutger(or possibly Rutgar?)? Also, is the standard in the Greatsword block your BSB, and what does the dude made from the old 6th Ed. command parts represent? The greatswords' champion or a Hero?
-
Lotsa great stuff here great paint jobs, awesome scenery, and I really like your wagons, steam tanks and ur banners.
Actually took the time to go through all 18 page.

That's right Rutger he was part of the old campaign box sets back during 5th edition. The great swards have some conversion work. the standard is an old hero with halberd. Halberd removed and banner pole attached, I don't feel bad doing that because I have another one. The great-swords actual standard has been converted taking the banner off and replacing it with a greatsword. Hey Derg, glad you liked the tour, thanks for the comments :::cheers:::

Just went through this whole thread, and all I can say is WOW! What a superb source of inspiration!
Makes me want to field a big and beautiful Empire army as wel. I will without a doubt borrow some ideas for my own army in the making. I especially love all the banners on the knights, having several smaller flags in the unit really makes them stand out and look important (and epic!). :)
Cheers!

just got in a couple of 80's fighters :closed-eyes:
PICTURES!! WE DEMAND PICTURES!! :-D
-
all the 80's figures were great, I wish they would reissue them, at the time they were being made it was hard to come up with a complete set as they sold them to the stores by the sleeve (like 12 packs at a time) of a certain line, like fighters or wizards, you were never guaranteed what was in the sleeve, and quite often there were duplicates and many of the rarer pieces never seemed to get shipped. You could order from the GW at the time but all they could promise on some of the lines is that you would get figures from the line, for instance if there were 4 wizards in a group you could order 4 wizards (they all had the same number) and you might get one of each, I never saw it happen though, usually I would almost always get duplicates. Any way it is a treat to see anyone get some of the old figures that had such character and fueled the fantasies of so many of us back in the day. steveb

Would you be willing to put up with them being made in Fine Fail?!

that's a dirty word to me .. @zak: RE the evil-looking chick with two assistant thingies, have you considered re-basing her and using her as a female wizard?
-
Wizard- Chic is a commission piece for a friend, but I would have if it was mine :::cheers:::
thanks for the comments guys :smile2:
-
just got my thunderwolf in time to see what I can do with it :engel:
-
this project has been in the planning stage for over a year now. I loved the idea of converting thunder wolves into a "demi-wolf" for my Middenhiem troops. I asked my wife Christmas ( 2014) to get me thunderwolves for a gift, she gets the smaller versions. OK, I like these guys but I don't like them as a mount so anyway long story short they are going to be the other three ( fill-in) for a unit of 6 ...eventually
SOOoo here is the WIP

I still have a shield to do and other fine detail work and the other two wolves
comments are appreciated :::cheers:::
-
That thunderwolf is looking awesome, nice stripes on the lance too.
Looking forward to seeing the full unit.
-
It's all about the glass cabinets :)
-
Wow! Those are looking awesome, Zak! Great job! I really like the addition of the wolf pack to the bigger guys! I've played with that thought as well. I just seems to make them a more threatening pack!
:::cheers::: :::cheers::: :::cheers:::
-
hey thanks for the comments guys!! I think the addition of the smaller wolves will give a great "movement" to the unit, plus they just look threatening hahaha :::cheers::: :::cheers:::
-
The conversion is ace!
Otherwise you could make a knightly order ride the smaller wolves since they fit well on a cavalry base, and have the demi's rock Thunderwolves only. :)
-
I personally think they are to small and scrawny as a mount for humans, maybe a Halfling/Dwarfs, they would make excellent goblin wolf riders mounts.... IMO. Now, I have to order two more thunderwolves off of eBay ...dang this is an expensive project but not very much more then having to ordering the regular Demigriffons box set from GW ...thank for the comment :::cheers:::
-
I agree that they are too small for regular knights. I think the way you've used them is spot on!
-
I was able to finish the unit so far, I still have to order the other two thunder wolves and 3 bases. but for now its finished, 90%. I want to paint something cool on the dudes shield but for now I'm going to leave in blank, I have a few touch up but anyway they are battle field ready.
:::cheers:::
For those who are interested there are a few cyber ware you have to cut off or cover up but for the most part fits well in fantasy. I had to cover one of the eye's with a Middenhiem medallion ( worked perfectly) and one of the paws with a old chaos warrior shoulder amour thingy.
anyway what do you think?

-
anyway what do you think?
Not thinking very clearly now. Just positively drooling.
Those small details, the eye patch and the piece of armour - what great additions for character & theme!
Do I see some joints on the smaller wolf heads? Maybe a bit of greenstuff to cover & hide those?
:::cheers:::

Nah, that's just where they part their fur. :-D
I really like the cracked cannon on the base! :eusa_clap:
-
yeah that part should have been filled ( I get right on it lol) I just ordered three more bases and a giant base for a cloak work ( steam punk giant) thing .........thanks for the comments as always
-
Soooo today I got a frantic phone call from a company I bought some bases from through ebay. Apparently, instead of shipping me just one base ( for my giant) they shipped me their entire stock of 25-30!! I agreed to send them back .... lucky I am honest person hahaha :-P
-
AND THEY send me the wrong size base I wanted 50mm not 40mm sheesh :x
-
OK for a while now I had this robot toy thing and my imagination has ran wild with the idea to convert it into a steam-punk empire Giant.
So today I finally started on it WIP :::cheers:::

:::cheers:::

honestly I don't even know what kind of toy it was

I want to add other things to make it more "steam-punk" any suggestions ?
Isn't the usual answer tons of superfluous gears
-
I want to add other things to make it more "steam-punk" any suggestions ?
more stacks & exhausts? ...and brass + copper painted parts?
I haven't seen something quite like this steam giant before. So, my visit here today was well worth it. thanks!

Wow! That's awesome, Zak! I love it! There's something really beautiful in the simplicity. I don't know that I'd add too much more to it unless you plan on taking him WAAAAY over the top. I was thinking about where a cannon would go, and I couldn't imagine a position where it wouldn't feel awkward and out of place. Great job! :::cheers:::

The face on that guy looks awesome. Such a good model!

Zak, five star job (*****) only one problem, it is obviously not Empire, one fact alone supports this supposition, no skulls! adding at least one, two, or three skulls is a must do addition, maybe cut the faces off of some skulls and glue them to the front of the leg plates, then to keep it being too obvious paint them the saqme metallicas the legs. Other than that great creation. I am going to be scouring toy stores for likely candidates now, darn you. steveb

Nicely done :biggriin:

thanks guys!!... I am about 80% finished now just need to add all the fun extras. I will give 10 cool points if someone can find this toy on line. I would like to know what it was and where it came from, I found it sitting in the back of a used toy rack. :::cheers:::

I think his name is Fender, but there are a couple different versions of him, so don't know which one you have:

From the animated movie "Robots". Sadly he was voice acted by our late friend Robin Williams. I have some robots stuff that I've been sitting on for years. Thanks for the inspiration.

Eric Von Hammerschmidt was the third son of a minor, yet very rich, Altdorf Nobel. Knowing he would never inherit the family estate and title he embarked on a career as an Imperial engineer. Over the course of near 20 years he learned all he could about what it was to be an engineer for the empire, many times it almost cost him his life. While he was brilliant he lacked a certain focus like his comrades, resulting in many Chief engineers overlooking him for promotions and other projects that would have brought him much fortune. Eric became fast friends with Tad wolf, a son of a merchant family in the capital; together they set out plans to build, what at the time, would have been impossible. They put to work project, “Tin Man.”
Using an old abandon warehouse Wolf father owned, they started to build, after 5 years of work and almost bankrupting both men, they completed the project, just in time as the cry came out “Chaos is marching on the capital!” The Tin-Man would meet the invading army head on, through the east gate. When the citizens fleeing through the gate first saw Tin Man they screamed with fear until they saw the Altdorf colors flying; screams turned to cheers as Tin-man smashed into his first victims, three spawns sent to take the gate…. Even though Altdorf was eventually burned many thousands of citizens still survived, hundreds owed their lives to the Tin-Man.

I still want to add some banners on the weapons and a few what-not's but for the most part he is finished :::cheers:::
any more suggestions? comments please add them :::cheers:::
-
I am a bit partial about the guys on the back. they do look a bit exposed, maybe add some planks? or some fancy armor plates?
If you are into Storm of Magic, this would make an awesome count-as Necro....something rather'tect. Can't remember what it was called, the bone giant from Monstrous Arcanum.
Glad you stayed away from chest cannons! Really great work.
You deserve a brew :::cheers:::
-
There is much win in this thread.
-
Great work, very fun. :::cheers:::
-
I found a skull, well done. The details really make it now, I would not change or add anything at this point. re: the platform at the back I like it as it is, the contrast between the high tech and low tech works in this case doing anything else to protect the crew would lower the contrast and decrease the effect. Another amazing job. Yay for the razorback clan, soooweee! steveb
-
This giant robot is awesome : I dont see anything to change on it :)
Excellent work and excellent army dude :::cheers:::
-
Hey, thanks guys for the comments. I think I will eventually add some banners to the two weapon poles ( Altdorf colors and junk) I wanted to make this guy with a totally different army then I play because of variety and I thought Altdorf would be cool to paint up. I have looked at the 40k style robot monster things ( I don't play 40k) but I like the banners and how they display them on their giant robot knight things. :::cheers:::
-
So I wanted to paint more of these robots but MAN they are very rare I guess ( lucky I found one) Does anyone know of any other cool ( steam-punkish) robot toys like this one? :::cheers:::

I forget the company's name, but there's a clockwork dragon somewhere on the internet, suitably sized for Warhammer....

Maybe a toy from the movie "Iron Giant".

Wizard of Oz TIN MAN (https://www.google.fi/search?q=wizard+of+oz+tin+man+figurine&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=VWE6VbeMJYOrsQHp4oHYAQ&ved=0CCYQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=681) figures?
Especially the one by Jim Shore could do with small modifications. Just don't know the size of it.
And the various figurines made of the Star Wars Bountyhunter Robot (http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/images/products/out/large/SSC11055.jpg). The 80's Kenner version might be a bit small, but I'm sure you'll find one of suitable size (dunno about the price, though). Just add a boiler and some vents!

looking at the thunder wolf I decided that I did not like the rider so I demoted him to freelance knight and plan on replacing him with a more "manly" looking figure ..im wanted a full plate with bare head wielding a huge battle axe, I also want him to have the lion head shield or maybe I can get a spacewolf shield ( what ever they are called) :::cheers:::

A few things I have been working on ...Dude I love the absolute detail in these old school metal dwarfs, just a pleasure working with them.

Really nice work! :::cheers::: I love those old dwarfs, so much character! I think Dwarfs are the only race that has really lost something essential in late editions. There was something very characterful and unique about those old sculpts, that the new plastics simply fail in transmitting. Such a shame.
Fortunately, I too have a dozen of those somewhere... Maybe it's time to get them painted
-
thanks for the comment, they are very fun to paint :::cheers:::

Great job, Zak! I love the detail you put into their eyes! It gives them so much personality! :::cheers::: :::cheers::: :::cheers:::

Pretty much everything in this thread is just pure brilliance. That Tin Man will look fantastic with an army spread out to either side.

Loving those new backgrounds, Zak - they really set the army off.
You've got, like, enough models here for three or four armies - do your wife and kids every get involved with your gaming? You've got enough models and armies and scenery and even players to run a small tournament in your house!

thanks dude, I have been collecting sense 1994 ( kept me out of trouble in the military) My wife loves the model terrain aspect, other than that she thinks its a cool hobby for me ( very lucky, most wives hate the game) well, at least in my experience. My kids would LOVE to get their hands on them :icon_eek: that's why the locked cabinet lol .... thanks for the comment :::cheers:::

I like that the prospector is examining a lump of "Purest Green" warpstone rather than a gold nugget :)
-
thanks for the comments, I love painting these old school dwarfs :::cheers:::
-
Wow, I got to start painting again this AoS has really placed me into a funk I do not like. Warhammer, especially the empire has been my hobby for almost 30 years.... screw this I'm back
-
Your plog is pretty cool that Iron Giant blew me away, it has alot of character. :::cheers:::
-
Glad to hear your back in the painting game. Looking forward to your work. :::cheers:::

Tons of old school awesomeness in here, and the Tin Man is way too cool, too! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :eusa_clap: :::cheers:::
-
Darn, I thought I'd missed an update...
-
I have also felt the "funk"....the best cure is just to bounce back on your feet.. and ignore the whole thing. (AoS)
Look forward to seeing more of your awesome work :::cheers:::
-
Glad to see you're back to it. Now get painting and posting up some more pictures.
-
thanks for the encouragement fellows ...My family and I just moved 2100 miles away ( do not know that in kilometers for those who still use this witch craft HA! ) anyway, new house, job, finishing masters, and a new baby ( WORD!) its been a bit busy ( SteveB) one regret I did not drive the three hours to see your collection, Sorry dude.
1- I have to unpack the 10 boxes of hobby junk, set up a paint station after everything else is finished.
With regards to the AoS I know there are those who like this concept and I truly hope it brings a large revenue to GW in the hopes they will bring out 9th edition set, back in the real world so players have the option to play old world, end of times, and the new crazy purple madness world of Sigmar and those other guys. I , who has always prided himself a GW fan boy, do not liking what I have seen and are continually seeing with the new AoS. I think the models and concepts are fine but they are simply not the Warhammer I love and have played for 30 years. However, I have enough to build and paint for the next few years until either GW comes back to their senses or another company builds this game once again, I would love for the original founders to start their own company and reproduce Warhammer fantasy battles

Arkansas looses another of its few good gamers and painters. I wish you good fortune in your endeavors. If you are back this way for whatever the invitation still stands. steveb

Well, congrats on the new job and baby! I hope it all works out for you!

One of my favourite threads from the time I started to paint again (late 2014, early 2015).
Hope to see some new stuff soon.
No, just take new photos of your old stuff as you unpack. An unpacking party!

Suffering catfish Zak! Your painting is fantastic. Really nice models
-
Awesome gallery at all, my congrats! :::cheers:::
-
Thank you good sirs :::cheers:::

Oh man zak those all look awesome! I always loved the Mordheim stuff, and I'm eternally disappointed in myself that I only started to buy the models right before they got dropped totally. Those witch hunters are such fantastic models.
Puppet man is also one of my personal favorites.

glad to see you are back to posting pics, zak. And, that is a healthy serving of stuff from the good old days. :eusa_clap:

Love those dwarves and that wizard. They look fantastic!
I think photobucket started to back off on it's stupid policy a month or two ago. That's when I noticed most of my pictures had come back.
Is that confirmed, @Gankom; they've cancelled that stupid "no third-party sharing" policy...?
@Zak: Are those Thunderwolf models the guy has used for the Ulrican Templars?
-
Zak ... good see you back at it with Empire!
And where'd those wolves come from?

As per my Q., I THINK they're Thunderwolves, but I'm hopeful Zak will confirm, one way or the other...
-

I don't know it 100%, but it looks like they've changed something.

Damn, badass!
Btw really like the monk, so much character. Would love to have the mini, is it Mordheim? Or is it a Bretonnia mini?
