WFB 6th edition: Lustria or Albion?
« on: June 21, 2017, 02:10:35 PM »
My RPG group plans to organise a campaign of WFB. We want to play 6th edition, since we like it the most and were actually thinking about using either the Lustria or Albion campaigns. I'm organising the whole deal, so it will fall on me to learn and prepare everything.

Did any of you guys played either one of these campaigns? If so, which one was better? Which one would you recommend more? There will be 6 players: two Empire ones, one Bretonnian, one High Elf, one Chaos scum and a single Druchii warlord.

Great fun awaits!

I think Albion fits the armies better geographically.

I didn't play Lustra, but it didn't appeal a whole bunch to me either. I think there is a lot more weird skirmish rules, and that will benefit the chaos and elf players more than the human players.

The idea of Albion I find more interesting, except I think Dark Emissaries and Truthsayers in some ways break the game...

As I understand it, every army can buy a Truthsayer (order) and a Dark Emissary (destruction) plus some funky, magical items? I like the weather rules and I also think that without Lizardmen, there's not much sense in playing the lustrian campaign.

As I understand it, every army can but a Truthsayer (order) and a Dark Emissary (destruction) plus some funky, magical items?

To specify: you have to agree on which side you/your opponent are playing. If you decide to include Truthsayers/Dark Emissaries, the Dark player  gets a single Emissary, and the good player a single Truthsayer. They do not count towards the number of characters or the points value of the army. However, they do provide 265 VP. Armies with DE/TS can slso take up to 3 Fenbeasts as Rare choice. The funky items were the result of the campaign, IIRC.

I like the weather rules and I also think that without Lizardmen, there's not much sense in playing the lustrian campaign.

This.

Thanks for the tips guys. I really like the idea of a campaign in Albion. Sounds cool! We'll settle for that one then. :biggriin:

For what it's worth I like the Albion idea. It just sounds right.

Personally, I think the Lustria campaign was better, but without lizards - well, it flats out like a lizard drinking.

The 5th ed. campaign packs were a bit of a mixed bag but I always liked them.

https://www.scribd.com/lists/4505659/Warhammer-5th-Edition-Campaign-Packs

If GW had released more of them at more regular intervals (and kept the price down) they could have been a real asset to the game.

Both are fun.

I liked the Lustria background more, the Skaven/Lizardmen conflict is always a very entertaining one. Albion seemed more like an excuse for a campaign.

Rules-wise Albion changes less, so is perhaps more balanced. The Lustria book introduces some nice new concepts, but these can break some games.

I loved the post-Albion items, even if they were just Space Marine kit parts. Late 6th edition I'd never leave home without Power Armour on my High Elf heroes  :biggriin:
cheers,
Lee

Do you mean the Armour of the Gods? Probably the best item ftom the treasures of the Old Ones. The Empire only got the Hexstaff out of the campaign - pretty useless, IMHO.

Or better the Swordmaster Honour, for a Great Weapon (giving you S7), strike in Initiative order and Killing Blow.

I actually still have the Albion Campaign booklet that was released in the White Dwarf of that era.

Gods I miss playing 6th edition.
I'll have to dig around my old books and see if I have a copy of the rules, if not I'll just play Kings of War instead.

I have the big, fat book for the 6th, but it's very hard to get the vintage books now.

Guys, does any of you know how the Dogs of War work in 6th edition? My Empire armybook allows me to take DoW units, but I'm not sure if I can take those from my 5th DoW book. Did the GW ever updated the rules for mercenaries, after they've released the 6th edition.

I remember the Dow being allowed in 6 ed. A good gaming buddy had a Dow army which he played but dropped it as unsupported in 7th if my memory is reliable (which it isn't most of the time). No more updates after 5 th I think.

Dogs of War received a White Dwarf update with list of the old RoRs as well as a list for generic Southern Old Worlders essentially. Basically DoW work as rare choices but with the Empire closer relationship to Tilean mercenaries some RoR's could be taken as Special choices.

Further if you want a 6th edition experience but also some house rules feel free to check out my unofficial DOW book from the era which apparently still lives on Scribd for some reason.

Thanks S.O.F! I don't have that piece in my collection. Shame that it's on Scribd, as downloading anything from that service is always a pain in the ass. I will hunt for the WD rules for DoW then. :smile2:

Do you know what white dwarf edition that was. I might have it kicking around. Though many were destroyed in a flood.

In addition I think I might be able to dredge up some Allies rules and an Albion Allied Contingent list from about the same era if that would interest you. Not certain if your campaign group would be using the natives at all or if you have any Ancient Gauls through Dark Ages Britons to use as minis for them.

Not off the top of my head but DoW, Kislev, and Ulricans all made it into the 2004 Annual of official WD material, a much more useful compilation of info for the 6th
