I've just signed up and have taken a look at the map. One thing is still unclear to me yet, how does it all work?

When the campaign is truly started, will we be able to register games in all territories or only our own and those next to ours?

Any more info on how the campaign system works would be nice

To be perfectly honest, the exact working details of the campaign are still Timmy's best kept secret

In a nutshell though - you will be able to post battle results to any location your faction owns, or to adjacent ones. Battle scores raise your faction's control rating in that location. If a location's control rating tips to one side, it will become "contested" for a while. If your faction can hold on to its local superiority during the "contested" period, the location will then change hands and open up the way to attack other locations.
