I like the idea of a lightsaber longsword.    There is like a quadrillion different worlds, why not different sword types and fighting styles?

It's not like the light saber isn't a crazy idea to begin with. If you're not a Jedi/Sith you will most likely lose a limb or two at some point due to your lack of a sixth sense.

Chewbaka also has a blaster crossbow and no one ever bitched about that design.

I think I was more surprised that Maul didn't cut himself in half with it.  Sure its like a bo staff but the point of a bo staff is to be able to grip it all over the shaft (phrasing) and come at someone at different angles.

Honestly, compared to the prequel trilogy (which I am not a fan of), I am okay with this so far.

I always wanted something increadibly stupid like an outfit covered in lightsabers in all the colours of the rainbow. Blaster hits would just bounce off and you could hug your enemy to death.

My main concern is the character delivery, a story that's not stupid and a good adventure. Silly lightsabers is just a minor nitpick that I can look past.

As Finlay already hinted - the lightsaber hilt is not really the point. The point is the "warning! stoopid incoming" sign that comes with it.

We'll see. Perhaps it'll be really good. I hated the new Star Trek movies, but I guess that style would work a lot better for Star Wars.

One rumour I heard is that the Sith built it himself but he didn't know what he was he was doing. So he ended up making it too strong so he put two exausts for the beam on the lightsaber. But it totally looks that way just because someone thought it would look cool and needed something new for a new generation of movies. At least it's not lightsaber nunchucks or a katana that somehow bends the beam.

A better question is why no one puts these on the grill of a spaceship and use it as a battering ram of death. I'm sure players must do these things in the RPG's.
