This one looks interesting ...
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/artis-opus/artis-opus-series-s-brush-set?ref=recs&ref=discovery
There are only a few hours to go. I've not quality brushes like this before, and I'm contemplating signing up for these.
What do ya think?
-
I ended up not pledging for those.
-
They looked good but frankly there's a billion stores around me that sell good brushes. I just didn't feel the need to get in on a kickstarter for more.

Martin Wallace's Lincoln ACW board game
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1992455033/martin-wallaces-lincoln-acw-board-game
-
Looks good! I like that it seems to be more of a card game with a board for keeping track of progress.
-
First Kickstarter I've ever backed. But this is a game I want to get in front of since I came late to the A Few Acres of Snow party.
-
I have A Few Acres of Snow, and it is fun.
Are these the same guys (I'm not in front of the game shelf currently) :icon_question:
-
Not sure about the publishers but Martin Wallace is the same game designer.
-
Interesting. I'll check when home next. Might pledge for a copy after all.
-
A Few Acres of Snow was published by Tree Frog Games, and yes, Martin Wallace's name is on the cover.
I'm going to pledge on this one. Going to talk around to family and friends to see if anyone else wants in on the larger quantity pledge level.
-
Seems like there's been a bit of controversy over the rules for Lincoln already, although it also seems the designer is reviewing it as well.
-
Ya, I'm not really sure what to make of it. The issue being that there's really only one strategy needed to win by the CSA. I feel like it's a min/max angle and while it is an issue I'm not sure if it's as aggravated as it's made out to be. The reason I say this is because this is being compared to the "Halifax Hammer" in A Few Acres of Snow. I played AFAOS in its 2nd edition rules so I couldn't fully work it out because I think that strategy had been mitigated, but without having the communal think tank to let me know what it was I wouldn't have found it out (probably). And it makes me think the same way here. I dunno. I'm monitoring the situation and if it seems untenable I may change my pledge, but for now I'm still in.
-
My copy of A Few Acres of Snow is the 2nd editon as well, and frankly, I love it.
Suspect they'll find a fix for this, if it's really that big of a deal. I'm likely going to pledge anyway, but I've spent so much money on the Overrunners campaign and the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion campaign, plus upped my pledge on the Rubble campaign that I'm delaying as I watch this as well.
-
That's part of the problem to me. Some folks that are complaining about the brokenness of Lincoln are the same ones that say the Halifax Hammer broke AFAOS. I don't think that's true at all for AFAOS. There just seems to be a very small, very aggressive group on Board Game Geek that are railing against this that makes me hesitant to just abandon the game.
-
The mixed blessings of internet whining.
At least there is awareness of a potential issue, but once they latch on to something, the whining has only just begun. :icon_lol:
-
Competitive Board Game Geeks can be pretty rough. I know a guy who will pause a game of Catan to go and quickly whip up a spreadsheet to figure out the best method to win. Meanwhile the rest of us are trading wood back and forth just so we can make jokes about "Giving each other wood".
-
I understand statistics and probability is a huge part of gaming, but boiling a game down to nothing but a math problem seems boring and pointless.
-
And instead of working on their own skills for tactics and strategy, having things be a challenge and fun, sometimes losing, sometimes not, they think they are being cute using math.
-

Quite like the Iron Hands - the calculus states...... we will not enter engagement unless the calculus produces a win scenario.

Only so many hours remaining on this one ...

I like the 28mm miniatures that come with this game, although not sure I'll go in for it with so many recent kickstarters, and coming back from my excursion to the Huzzah! 2018 gaming convention.

Appears as though the issue has been fixed.

These mats look good and fairly priced ...

Two 4x3's could make a 4x6, it's tempting.

AARRgh - Pirates
My immediate reaction was that I already have loads of pirates - more pirates, but there are quite a few interestingly different figures in this.

There are billions and billions and billions and billions of stars, and then along comes a project like that.

Haven't backed this one, though I was intrigued. It is fully funded with 9 days to go:

That looks good, I might pledge! :icon_cool: :::cheers:::

The illustrations and the presentation are fantastic. You can tell that that they love what they do.

Well somehow I let that one slip past, bummer.
Here's another interesting one, and it has gotten a lot of attention ...

Wow, that is totally cool! :icon_biggrin:
I'm imagining they'd make great raiders for going after veggies in halfmen gardens. :icon_mrgreen:
-
I like the idea of some cute little bunny Ungor raiders.
Sometimes heresy comes in a dangerously cute package.
-
So cool!👆
I can see them being part of the JTC somehow.
-
JTC ... Jackrabbit Trading Company. :icon_mrgreen:

I'm trying to wrap my head around some justification for painting them up as a part of my own fantasy setting/campaign/whatevs. I like the garden raiders angle.
I recently started stripping and re-priming & basing some old Ral Partha "Thumpers". (See pic below.) I'm repurposing them from my old Hordes of the Things army. ("Night of the Lepus" inspired -- sort of.) Totally different look to them, and I had thoughts on their justification & place in the setting already. Hopefully it won't be too strange having two* different types of rabbit creatures.

Remembering those (which were based on the old Ral Partha Orcs / Half Orcs I think) I was half tempted to make the two ranges the basis of an Orcs and Goblins army. Then I remembered that a - I already have 200+ presoltta Orcs and Goblins hidden away and b - you will do it much better!
We all know this line of thought ultimately ends with an Oldhammer / Infinite Rabbits crossover toy or three, don't we?

There you go! You mentioned doing an oldhammer project but feared the cost -- sounds like you've already got a lot of minis for one.
I do like a lot of the old pre or early slotta orcs better than the later hulking brutes.

Haha. That sounds like a brilliant idea....
-
Getting off topic... but it's not the army I most want to do, but sure, it's the most affordable Oldhammer option for me. Although the 3rd Ed army lists fit mid/late 80s minis better than the pre-slots do.

Thought there was a thread on terrain kickstarters somewhere, but maybe I'm wrong, so for the moment placing this in here.

For this Altburg kickstarter and under half a day remaining, I went with just the barn and not the pledge level with the 2nd story loft.
It is supposably 32mm, and hoping it doesn't look odd on a table top with 28mm. I've pledged enough funds to get the shed attachment and the fences to go with just the one story stable.

WARNING: As of this post, there are 12 days remaining on this campaign, but only 6 days remaining for the early bird pledge levels.
I went for the Both Worlds Early Bird pledge. :icon_cool:

The Cthulu and Pulp miniatures made it to the 4th stretch goal. :icon_cool: I raised my pledge to get both packs of the Moroccans. :icon_cool:

I pledged for the windmill with the extras.
The other other modular terrain looks good, yet not sure it is wise for me to be spending more on scenery at the moment.

This board game looks interesting ...

A potentially interesting kickstarter from the FireForge folks. Expanding their Forgotten Worlds range with some more Early Modern era looking dwarves.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fireforgegames/stone-realm-hard-plastic-multi-part-dwarves-in-28mm-scale/description
I'm a bit surprised because the rest of the range is very Game of Thrones feeling/looking and these dont quite meet that. They also don't particularly look that dwarfy other then height. Beards aren't huge, not much ornamentation, etc. I'm tempted to pick up a box or two to slot into my more cosmopolitan dwarf hold. Plus I like the goat riders.
-
Yeah, it's a bit strange that Fireforge decided for Dwarfs at this point.
Their gear reminds me of heavy renaissance armour, the helmets are earlier and in good comparison to the Northmen, they seem to have skirts with perhaps Scottish style tartans, and the command group has some Landsknecht style heads with hats and feathers. It's a distinct milieu, perhaps fitting for an interpretation of Imperial Dwarfs in the Old World setting. They might have thought about T9A as much as their own vague setting.
No Dwarfs in GoT, so no wonder they don't find a comparison there. :-)

-
Well unless ya count Tyrion Lannister. :icon_wink:

A midget is not a dwarf. Dwarfs are a people and an ancient culture, not deformed humans.

Glad I put a winking smilie there. :icon_cool:
