RoR Design - Points Costs?
« on: November 03, 2010, 02:38:46 PM »
Hi guys

I am in the process of designing a new RoR for the upcoming Animosity Campaign (A5) set in Tilea.

Now I have my fluff, I know what cool things the new RoR can do, but was wondering how to cost it all up.

Any ideas, examples etc of what stuff costs?

Much thanks in advance.

I would just break it down into component costs.

Ex. A "special" unit of boring swordsmen with crossbows and a hero

Swordsmen - 6 points each,  xbows +2 points each

Hero - 50 points + special weapon (lets say wyrmslayer sword - 15 points), plate mail 8 pts, xbow 10 pts (based on handgun/longbow in profile)

Standard and musician - 15 points + 2 each for xbows

So, your boring swordsmen with crossbows for a unit of 10 would cost
8*7 troopers = 56
standard and mus = 19
hero = 83

Total: 158 points

You may want to add a small premium to the price so that armies need to pay a bit extra to get the unit, so round it up to 175 or something, then +8 per trooper.

That's how I will be making mine.  But it won't be boring swords with xbows...

Thanks

How do you determine things like costs for stubborn, immune to fear, scout etc?

I would try to use a known unit with similar profiles.

Stubborn on a snotling is not as much worth in points as stubborn on a Star Dragon.

Generally the best guide is to compare units with similar stats and weapons and look at point cost differences from the special rules. In GW's design mind there is no real formula for rules point costs, just a rough approximation. Playtesting is really the only way you test your point costs for certain.

Timbor's list looks a bit too good.

For 145 you get 20 swordsmen with FC.
No matter how good a general you are; if the dice are against you, you will not win.
