Just a quick paint job here, but I like these models ,

I think they could make for solid Great Sword conversions , arm swaps, maybe some head cuts etc

Don't you dare!  ::heretic:: Make him captain or greatsword/swordsmen champion, that mini looks to good to change it. Also, those knights have more parts with different weapons? They look like they have same body, are they some part of multicomponent kit?

Very little is known of the lands referred to as Grand Cathay since travel and trade between the Old World and Cathay is so dangerous.
"The capital and seat of the Dragon throne of Cathay is Wei-jin. The worship of Tzeentch is legal and widely practised in Cathay, albeit in less extreme forms than the worshiping practices of the Northmen. To the east of Cathay across the sea lies Nippon whom Cathay has often warred with. The Cathayans have built a giant wall called the Great Bastion to keep out incursions of Hung raiders from the northern Chaos Wastes. The Cathayans have fought many wars against the Dark Elves and their fleets, though little other contact with the more traditional Warhammer races is reported, save for traders traveling overland (along the silk road through the Dark Lands) from the Old World. Other locations mentioned in Cathay are the Mountains of Heaven, where giant animated statues of the Cathayan Gods guard temples, in much the same way as Ushabiti do in Nehekhara."

Whether this depiction of the land of Cathay is true or not has yet to be seen.

While little is known of Cathay's military capabilities, it is known that an army of (supposedly) 100,000 men were assembled to invade Lustria, the home of the Lizardmen. Out of these 100,000 men, only 1 man returned. It is unknown whether a follow-up campaign was initiated.

They were the first modular metal knights , forged when the world was young and MTV had not yet been invented!

Ok so I bought this badly painted Gelt model from e bay, and thought it could be rescued.

2 hours later I have managed to do my best, here are the results.

I just painted over the current guys job, hence it looks like thick paint unfortunately , but hey ...

yeah i hear ya, but stripping a model of that size would have set me back £ for enough paint stripper,

also i felt it was on the edge of acceptable for re painting

THE stuff for stripping both metal and plastic is Simple Green

A quick look at their website provides the following details for getting the Simple Green in the Emerald Isle;

M. Donnelly & Co Ltd.
Unit 18 Lee Road
Dublin Industrial Estate
Glasnevin, Dublin 11, Ireland

Tel: +353 (1) 860 2900
Fax: +353 (1) 860 2929
Contact: Martin Donnelly

http://www.mdonnelly.ie/

Finecast softens a little in Simple Green; there was a thread about it somewhere.

1 bottle of simple green will last you for years upon years. I have stripped whole armies and not got halfway through a bottle. You can just keep using and reusing it.  8-)

Love the 80s Foot Knights, great models and lovely job  :::cheers:::

**For stripping metal/plastics I use Brown Dettol (has to be the brown stuff). Fill a small container with half the bottle and leave overnight or for a day or two and then carefully use a toothpick to slide the paint off. It can be time consuming but if you rub it with a toothbrush it can turn the paint into a sticky ball and it's hard to get off. It's a cheap and safe way of doing it, a big bottle is only around £4 and is a good alternative to simple green which is an American product  :-P

For example I've had this Halbadier mini (see picture below) in this pot for around 6 months, he wasn't needed and I forgot about him. Has done no damage to the plastic

http://i.imgur.com/qD0PA.jpg

As you can see from the picture there are areas where the paint needs picking out and sliding off using a toothpick, if you brush it it tends to smear the paint across the miniature into a sticky mess and can be harder to remove.

Hope that helps  :::cheers:::

Nice Work!  Balthasar gelt will be the first model my 7 year old daughter will paint.   I'm going to show her what you did, though she's dead set on rainbow wings for the pegasus.   I hope to post it this weekend.
