It goes without saying that the paintjobs are excellent, but I actually really like those minis too. Tonnes of character.

Yeah, since most of them carry handweapon and shield, or two hand weapons, how about house-ruling some foot Reiksguard or some kind of uber-swordsmen unit?

I think Militia ,

or also as there are 35, if you ever need an extra 10 man detachment of any kind, you can pull out 10 swordsmen, or 10 halberds almost from the models on offer!

Naw, they're too cool/well equipped to use as milita. Swordsmen at least, if you have a spare standard and muso.

I'm going to commit a bit of heresy and admit that I actually don't like most of the MM humans. I find the proportions to be too far off, even for GW, and the poses really static. Even when they look like they are supposed to be swinging weapons, the limbs are stiff and not reflective of actual human motion. I'm more forgving (and fond of) the ogres, dwarfs and hobbits from the same series simply because there are no real life equivalents to compare to. As far as the humans go, I think that some of the old GW "Fighters" range captured a lot of "character" and uniqueness, but with (marginally) better proportions and sense of movement. But that series was sculpted by larger group of sculptors, too.

Not criticizing the painting here at all, as it's top notch.  :::cheers:::

There are a few gems (in my opinion) in the MM series, though. In fact, I am still hunting for the middle guy, with the greatsword...

I agree with you, the models are quirky, and unrealistic , but that's what i quite like about them.

It's the 1st time i have used yellow and green ; i'm trying to paint old school GW style

I strangely like the odd old GW style. Cartoony looking but in a cool retro kinda way. The first miniature I painted since re-starting the hobby a few years a go was a 1980's chaos warrior miniature in this kind of style.

Paintjobs look awesome as always Mr Chumley.

Completely agree with 023 about the look of those old models, and even in liking the guy with the greatsword! The guy next to him in Chumley's picture, the one in plate with two weapons also looks good IMO. Dynamic pose but not so much the unrealistic/unnatural pose.

And of course, great painting as usual!

Looking good chumley. Love the old marauder stuff. I've been following this plog for ages and I'm always in awe.

ZeroTwentythree, I have the greatsword guy if you want him. PM if you're keen.

run them under the tap and the paint comes off like a snake shedding skin !

Chumley, since I can probably access a B&Q, or buy online from the U.K., could you please provide details, product name(in the B&Q system), price, etc.? T'would be much appreciated.

I am not a fan of the old "characterful" empire models, but your ability as a painter makes those look great!

I have to agree with the fact that the models are not proportioned and the movement not realistic, but the weapon, the armors and the clothes are IMO way better than the ones now. They are clearly historical but still fantasy in some way, not like the stuff now that has went too far into the high fantasy/manga style...
