I have some custom made movement trays in MDF coming my way,

basically 20 * 20mm bases , in lines of 3 deep, long and thin, to fit in wall cabinets with 5 shelves.

So each of my wall cabinets can display 300 models.

I plan to lock them in, so i'll display all the completed 80's collections, and unreleased stuff in wall cabs, and my main gaming army in the glass standing cab upstairs.

So are you going to be open to the public for tours soon then?

How much will the entry fee be, and will you do tea and scones .....................................  :engel:

I hope you have made a will and specifically dealt with your collection.
I have estimated mine at £20k - I hate to think what yours is worth.

I think mine must be worth something in the region of £20K also, it's hard to say

The Battle Lord alone could be worth $$$$$$$$ :)

I'll never sell, unless you kill me !

Along those lines, has anyone with an extensive collection tried to get it insured? I can think of a few forum members who might want to, but I'm curious how difficult it would be to value an entire collection in legal/insurance terms.

I'm not sure about a collection like chumley's but I have mentioned it once to my insurance dude and he said that as long as I can give an estimate of the worth that it was included in the normal contents insurance of your house. (Netherlands)

There's a bit of stereotyping going on here from the era they were made with the names and tags - all travelling players were dodgy.
The one you're missing actually has 'gypsy' on the slotta, even though it says Thug on the catalogue pic you posted.

Most UK 'Contents' insurance has a 'Valuable Goods' clause which lists an amount somewhere in the £10K - £30K bracket and then gives a "single item" maximum value.
Knowing insurance companies ability to bend the rules I made a point of explaining exactly what I had.
It would seem that you could consider each individual model as a single valuable item, but they might also consider an "army" or indeed a collection as a single item.
I had an interesting conversation about it as I was asked if the figures were all kept together or in batches, and we then went on to discuss a jewellery box where there may be several rings in one box but all with different individual values.

It would be sensible to get clarification at time of taking the policy out.

It's all a bit of a moot point as if you had a fire for example and all your metal minis melted, what are the chances of actually replacing them?

Yeah, but if you saved all that money instead then by the end of the year you could buy three new boxes of plastic monkeyfaces instead, and isn't that a better investment than all this old metal rubbish that no-one cares about?
