Small tips and advice on painting and modelling
« on: May 25, 2010, 10:36:39 AM »
Do You ever have the urge to give a tip or advice to a fellow member, but something restrains you from doing it, either laziness or fear from being perceived as a patronizing snob?
Well, in this thread we shall post tips and advices of general nature so we don't hurt anybody's feelings.
Post tips and advice regarding painting, modelling, terrain building, converting etc. This in not a place for a full length tutorials like in a workshop thread, so keep the posts short and simple.
But if you feel you need to elaborate a tip further, or someone asks for a clarification, or you want to address someone specifically, then just do it so.

When browsing through  painting blogs of other members, I noticed how literally nobody drills holes in the handguns. Why not? it's not that difficult! I did with my 6ed handguners and with the bigger handguns of the 7ed it should be even more easy.

So... drill the holes in the handguns.

Always prime your minis with either a brush or a spraycan. Black and white are usually the best alternatives, but their combination beats both. Prime your models after building up their bases, except for the fieldgrass as it doesn't look so grassy after painting.

Be sure to plan ahead how to assemble your units. Well fitting ranks are always better than infrequent ones. You shouldn't hurry in eagerness at the expense of your army!

This is quite basic stuff, but at least its something to get started with.

Hold the hairy part of the brush towards the model.

Also, choosing a paint scheme that matches your skills is half the work.
