New FAQ changes everything!

Biggest shift is the changes to reserves.  This will change the alpha strike problem in so many ways.  More than half the enemy points need to be in the deployment zone at the start of the game.  That includes models in transports.  No more first turn arrival of 80% of the enemy army 9” from your deployment zone.

Droppin' the hammer there. Whew.

I'm not sure I like all aspects of the new tactical reserves rules - in particular the "no setting up outside your half of the table" and "all reserves must be down by turn 3". But then I'm only theoryhammering so far. What's your take? All golden and shiny?

I think its a huge change that fixes one of the two biggest issues facing 8th.  The problems involving the Alpha Strike are huge.  If you have built your list right, you can cripple your opponent first turn.

The biggest changes are that it forces you to have half your points on the table turn one while also removing ANY option to put models closer than the deployment rule's minimum distance, normally 24" through any means.  This means you won't get 64 bolter shots and 24 assault cannon shots pummeling your deployment area when Deathwing arrives.  You won't have a 30 man bloodletter unit deploy from deepstrike and tie up half your line.

Gotta be a good thing then. Unless it favors long range shooty armies. But then, you can still have a go at those in turn 2, and long range shooting does not tend to be able to remove half your army in one turn.

I'm going to try and read through most of the FAQ's tomorrow, but I generally like what I see. I was surprised to see some of the new stuff in regards to soup armies. Lots of people talking about Inquisitors in particular and how they need to be in a separate detachment in order to stay battle forged. To be honest, I thought they already had to be. My Imperial soup army was organised specifically into separate detachments because I thought it would break battle forged.

The "no more then 3 data sheets for non-troop/transport choices" could be interesting. I often pack a lot of storm troopers and veterans. Might tweak how I do it.

The increase in CP's for Battalion and Brigade is also a nice boost for the traditional armies.. though I wonder if it tips the balance for Astra Militarum armies a bit to much to being to strong. Though the max 3 data sheets rule might help there.. lots of troop choices should not be to problematic..

The no more than three of anything rule is for tournaments only isn’t it?

that seems good, it was an obvious problem to me and I only played 3 games.
I don't care about the rules.

I think that fixed a lot of tournament issues.  The removal of Race faction words as a detachment keyword will help as well.

Ravenguard can still do their strike from the shadows to charge turn one and deploy outside their deployment zone.

I’m in favour of all the changes tbh.
There are 40 different shades of black, so many fortresses and ways to attack.

So why you complaining!

Yeah, and genestealer cults as well.

Armies built around it get a pass.  I think we will see some armies catch a break potentially if they need to spend command points on it.
