What are you watching- TV shows
« on: February 15, 2016, 11:05:17 AM »
I thought there was a thread for this, but can't find.

Anyone been watching Deutschland 83?

I really enjoyed it but read the ratings in Germany were poor. If they do a second series it would be deutschland 86.

Then, fantasising, a Deutschland 89 about the wall coming down could be cool.

The Wife and I also watched and enjoyed The Man in the High Castle.

Started Mr Robot but stopped after about 4 episodes.

Better Call Saul starts again on tuesday. I liked it as much as Breaking Bad, can't wait.
I don't care about the rules.

Watching all of the X-Files. Currently on the season 6. This is truly the best show ever made.

I watched the first of the new series last week. It was a bit meh to be honest.

My nightly feature is star trek on cbs action - currently deep space nine. I have to say it's a great show, shame that star trek died a death, would love to see a ds9 revival.

+1. As much as I like TNG, DS9 has the best characters* and the best storylines.

If we are talking old shows, I enjoyed SGU.

Currently watching last season of Downton Abbey, and other PBS programs if interesting as they come along.  Beyond that, not much of a TV watcher, other than occasional news program or sport event.

How is Downton Abbey my Amazon keeps thinking I might like it but Im unsure? What type of show is it? My professor likes it but shes like 75 although we share similar interests. I always got the impression it was a womans show but I could be wrong. The shows/Miniseries that I like/ have liked were

Rome
Deadwood
Spartacus
Hell on wheels
Outlander ( I find the amount of rape off putting though)
Black Sails
GoT
Peaky Blinders
The Borgias
Wolf Hall
I Claudius ( Im not sure if it counts)
Boardwalk Empire
Pillars of the Earth
Band of Brothers
The Pacific
War and Peace (I just finished it and it was pretty good)

My wife enjoys downtown Abbey; I guess I would think of it as a woman's show therefore. It's a period drama, although I would say considerably more amusing/entertaining for me than the likes of pride and prejudice Tec

My whole family likes it. It's a period drama and a fair portion of it tends to be about the various relationships of the characters, but there's lots about the aristocracy and servants having to change with the times, or going through the 1st world war.

I hate Gogglebox.

Downtown abbey is a woman's show.
It's a soap opera.

Depends on how one defines it as being a "woman's" show or a "soap opera".

From my perspective, neither is an accurate reflection of the program.  It is a fictional story wrapped in a real world time period of history, which attempts to include the aspects of English society at the time.  It is about family, class, the adaption of such to the changing times.  In a way it is historical fiction.

Monday nights are the best. Star trek deep space nine followed by the new x files. X files episode three was finally back on form - had the chap from flight of the concords in and was genuinely quite funny. Plus a seduction scene by Gillian Anderson that will appeal to every man who watched the show as a teenager.

I enjoyed the first four seasons of Downton Abbey, although I watched it with my wife while I painted models.

Right now I'm watching Ash vs. the Evil Dead. Good stuff!

I guess I can give Downton  Abbey a try even if it is a womans show. Ive done enough macho things so I dont think watching it will damage my street cred too much  :-D

So I was wondering if anyone was watching a hip Spy thriller, with good 80s music and funny 80s fashion, and it slips to Downton abbey.

Don't scowl, Jean-Luc. Because one other Star Trek fact benefits you: bald captains are the best captains.

You started out that way. Sisko only turned into a supreme badass once he got rid of his hair and grew the goatee instead.

To all the X-philes here, how is the 10th season overall? I'm watching all the old ones like crazy, but have heard that the new one is a mixed bag. True or false?

I liked Revenge. I think that's classified as a Woman's show.
