New update today. The spearmen have been refitted for 8th. Now theyre back even bigger and badder than before. Do remember that some of these chaps where painted about seven years ago so be nice with them :)

A close up of the banner. I painted this side today just for you all.

Detachment got the same treatment as the parent regiment. These are up for new shields to bring them in line with the rest of my army.

Looks great! But maybe add a bit of color to the drum sticks.. they look unfinished.

Thanks! Got another real treat coming in the morning...  :closed-eyes:

Heres another close up of the best side of the banner. I feel there is room for more here. Ideas welcome! Even so, i might use those  ideas for the backside of my halberdier banner. The different skin colours on the standard bearer and the rest of the guys are because they are different generations of paintings. The regular spearmen are 7 years old or so. Back then my standard way of painting skin was elf flesh and flesh wash. The standard bearer was apparently painted in a hurry several years later. Good thing about taking pictures, its easy to see your mistakes.

Sweet stuff indeed. Wish more generals paid as much attention to their banners as you. Fortunately my dwarfs carry minute pennants to war rather than major banners, which means less fiddly paint job! Love your army, love cannons, can't wait to see more.

I promised a little something today. So here is my standard bearer just after im done with the green stuffing(or grey stuff in this case). Idea is not mine, its stolen from Dark Apostle. Check out his brilliant, inspirational thread here http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/index.php?topic=37128.0

C&C welcome!

Hordes always look amazing and your spears are no exception!

And that new BSB looks like he's gonna be pretty spiffy too...

Thanks!

Progress is going well on the BSB. Almost all the base colors are in. Now its just blending and layering of the colors left. Hopefully he will be done tomorrow so i can post pictures of the result.

I guess thats the curse of buying new stuff before the old is done.

Tell me about it, last year just after the release of the new empire book I got a sudden unexpected financial boost and bought 2000 points of empire in one go, built it all and thought OH MY GOD I'm never going to paint all that, and about a month ago I picked up a paint brush and started climbing a warhammer mountain, and since then I have bought a greatsword command, a unit of knights, Kurt Helborg and Ludwig Schwartzhelm is currently on his way from ebay, I don't think I have a single finished unit. Still thats what summer holidays are for :icon_biggrin:

Hmmm maybe I should start a blog of my efforts to paint it all.

Just had another look at the steam tank very sexy!!, what's that like to build??? A lot of people say it is a pain in the arse, but it is a good model

Simply smashing army. I can't wait to get my own stank to paint. When I get time this weekend, I'll post a blog of my Reiklanders. I've found that, after the initial insanity of painting 2000pts worth of minis that one box per painting spree is all I can handle. I still have only 1000 pts painted actually (mostly because I started them as Averlanders and then I fell in love with the whole Reikland=Prussia=Mega AWESOMENESS). I like the Graf Spee (almost makes you want to shout "Killing Spree!" in the middle of a game, like the voice in Halo, doesn't it?) alot. :biggriin: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap:

Hehe so true, i never thought of "killing spree" when i named the steam tank. The Graf Spree was a german pocket battleship during ww2. Ive always loved that name. Graf is a title of some kind of nobleman. I think ive heard that title in the warhammer setting too. Someone probably knows more about stuff like that then me.

Reading about german history is great for inspiration for any empire army!

I do that as well as listen to old Prussian marching songs when painting (it gets me in the right frame of mind :biggriin:) I just bought an old (2005 issue) of White Dwarf and read an article about warbands, and am currently  thinking of taking a small portion of my unpainted army and making them Nuln themed so I can play some warbands games at my local shop. I have to get another cannon kit though, as I'm unwilling to paint over my Altdorf artillery train.  Can't wait to see your new standard bearer when he's done. :eusa_clap:

Ah thanks! Seems ive got the name all mixed up. Ill leave it that way, i think the pun in the steam tank name is working really well  Im still trying to think out new pun names for all the characters in my army. Mixing Norwegian, german and english words together makes for some fun but still authentic sounding names. The bsb is up for the name "von Treetopp".

Your army colour scheme is bold, which looks very good in hordes!
