:eusa_clap: Very innovative unit (not to mention affordable)!

Compared to original models they don`t miss a thing: hats with feathers, breastplates, gauntlets, thighplates and of course greatswords!
Nicely painted too.

Well done!

You should know by know that great and halberdiers does not go well together...  :icon_wink:

Nice looking unit, somewhat similar to what I did for my Altdorf swordsmen to show them being richer and all. Handsome too.

Not a too good picture but it gives a good impression (also the banner on this model was not finished yet)

My Nuln greatsword unit -

Updated the picture, much better/clearer one.

Not up to uber standards of some of the great ones shown before, but neat and tidy, and good looking I feel.

LochNESS, your whole Hochland army looks fantastic (so do your greatswords)!
I especially like the way you have painted the sleeves and the banner.
I can`t wait to see your Nuln army!

Brother Ducat,  :eusa_clap: very dark and realistic. Great paintjob!
I like the simple, gloomy colour scheme.
Which colour (colours) did you use to achieve such a dark armour (or is it due to the photo)?

Bartuc, Thankyou for the kind words. The Dark colourscheme is due to the lack of highlights on the models I suspect, although the photo is a little dark. Basically They are -

Black undercoat, drybrush whole model with Boltgun metal, then another lighter drybrush of Boltgun metal to help difine the edges a little more. I then Black all the other areas except for the skin.

The skin is just dwarf flesh, applied in two coatings, I suppose it is a form of layering almost.

I then add scorched brown for the boots, belts etc.

The sword is given a coat of chainmail on the blade only, the only shiny metal on the model.

For any Gold trimmings, I just used snakebite leather. They are so small on these that that is all I applied, no actual gold. I find it gives a nice tarnished gold look when the model is varnished.

So no highlighting or flash techniques, I just allow the feather and base to add a bit of colour to the model.

fresh off the painting table, my kitbashed Ostland greatwords.

only 3x3 with musician in the works. If i manage to find somebody willing to trade a set of 2handed ogre arms then an ogre greatswordsman will be made, and with the addition of a banner bearer will bump it up to 15  :smile2:

Poorly based I know, and certainly don't compare to LochNESS', but here they are nonetheless:

@ Sitlord - verrrry nice... the Reiksguard Footknights and the old greatswords mix really well with the new ones... and of course the paintjob is beautiful to say the least.

Afraid I don't have a very good digital camera. First unit was put together for Storm of Chaos.  The second unit during Lustria.

Since it's hard to distinguish the blobs, what you should be looking at are two units of greatswords assembled from miltia, knightly order and command sprue bitz. I did buy the Middenland command blister for the 2nd group.

Thanks Bartuc, I always like 'the best' I can manage for my Empire. Still not everything is as good as the Greatswords or the last Handgunners.

@sithlord : those are some cool looking models. The usage of some old models really makes it a bit more dynamic and gives more to discover in the unit. Paintjob is darn nice and clean also :)

@Warlord: maybe using a bit more dilluted paint next time, it looks a bit blobby in places but certainly a nice unit for on the table.

Thats part photo quality, part bad painting

I'm just looking to get models painted to tabletop quality, and then come back and do touchups, highlights and better eyes

But yeah, I appreciate your feedback. You make my Hochland army embarrassed.  :biggriin:

Took a few minutes to find this one but I did!

My Command group. I need to figure out some kind of quote or saying to add to the banner.

Still need to finish the faces and other little details but they look good enough to put on the table.
