Karl Franz has fallen, without an heir to claim the throne, his death now leaves a power gap for any to claim. Two counts have laid claim to the throne and have turned their armies upon one other jockeying for power. The mighty empire is now engulfed in a bloody civil war, pitting brother verses brother, splitting the empire asunder...

Hello all,

I'm beginning an Empire Civil War Campaign. The campaign is designed around a 5 battle scenario with the outcome of each battle determining the next.

I'll post battle scenarios, prologues, and battle reports under this head as they roll in.

Best,
Anubis

The Empire is an elective system, therefore Karl Franz always has an heir.

In this parallel world Karl Franz has no direct successor, the voting of the electra counts is split between two possible new emperors (Stirland & Ostermark). The electra count of Stirland, tired of waiting on the politics of government has declared himself emperor and rallied his supporters to him. The remaining electra counts declared the count of Stirland an enemy of the state and appointed the count of Ostermark as emperor. The first battle, which is the meeting of the heralds of both emperors to see if an agreement, can be met. When diplomacy fails the meeting turns into a bloody conflict.

At the moment both emperors (meaning me and the other player) are building our forces for the coming conflict. The battles will take place mid August.

Hello all, YES the first battle is now finally available (I know you were all holding your breath).
This first battle <Negotiations break down> is 1500pts vs 1500pts (Stirland vs Ostermark) no special rules except a BSB must be taken by both armies. The following battle report is the first of four and is from the point of view of the characters of the Stirland force. Enjoy.

Captain Theseus stared out at the field before him, the small mountain stream bubbling to his right. Behind him lay the vast expanse of the Stirling army; their spiraling emerald banners caught high in the morning breeze. Glancing up at his own banner Theseus felt a surge of pride at the sight of it. On the crisscross backdrop of emerald and gray was embroidered the golden lion of the first legion. Looking back to the field Theseus could see the Ostermark army slowly marching over the rise. For three days Theseus had been trying to negotiation with those arrogate blowhards. Six months ago the Emperor, Karl Franz, had died leaving no successor behind. For six months the Electra Counts had been voting and for six months the votes had been split between Theseus own Count Marcus Cato Regulus of Stirland and Count Boris Badinoff of Ostermark. After six months of the endless voting and unending arguments Marcus had declared himself Emperor and rallied his supporters to him. And instead of swearing loyalty to him for his ingenuity and cunning the remaining Counts made him a public enemy and named the Count of Ostermark the new Emperor. Emperor Marcus had sent Captain Theseus to negotiate with the emissary of the traitorous Emperor. After three days under the blazing sun the negotiations had gone nowhere. Last night a skirmish had broken out between the two encampments, which left a dozen men on both sides either wounded or killed. Theseus knew there could be only one outcome after that; war. Already he could hear the trumpets and drums calling men to battle formation, before the day was done, much blood would have been spilt.

Brother Francesco glared out beneath the branches of the large oak he stood by. It had taken three days to rile the men up into acting, last night his work came to fruition. Brother Francesco had let Captain Theseus think he believed a peaceful conclusion could be reached, but he had known from the very beginning that war could be the only inevitable conclusion of this confrontation. Now that battle was unavoidable, he had his orders. Looking out Brother Francesco could see the half Ostermark infantry and the Knights Panther on his right flank, in the center across from himself and the first halberd cohort was the rest of the Ostermark infantry. On the left was a group of rough riders and gunmen. Glancing to his right down their own lines Brother Francesco noticed the Middenheim troops, the greathammers. On the far hill he could see the old great cannon and heavy cavalry moving into position. To his left was the small contingent of light cavalry. The sudden sound of distant booming foreshadowed the beginning of the battle. The shattering of branches was Brother Francesco only warning of the impending shell, before he could shout a warning the air was filled with smoke, debris, and blood. Over the ringing in his ears Brother Francesco could hear the screaming of men. “Sons of Sigmar, hear me! They may have struck the first blow, but we will strike the last!”

First Turn Whole Battle

Master Valerius glanced left and right both the flanks had collapse, the right under the thundering hoofs of the Knights Panther, the left under a hail of gunfire. However, the center, where he stood, remained strong. Taking another deep breath Master Valerius summoned his energies for another fireball; he wasn’t sure how many of these he had left in him.

Final Battle Image

Captain Theseus spat out a mixture of blood and spit. His arms and backs ached from the battle. The first cohort that both he and Brother Francesco had joined had crushed the Ostermark infantry in the center breaking the enemies lines. But while the center had triumphed the flanks had faltered leaving no clear victor on the field of battle. With no clear victor both armies would race for reinforcements to bolster their ranks before the next confrontation. Staring back out at the battle Theseus felt a cold pit in his stomach at the sight of all the fallen. The Civil War has begun.

Hope you Enjoyed,
Best,
