Title: Sharkbelly's Projects
Post by: Sharkbelly on December 15, 2015, 04:50:28 AM
The introduction of Age of Sigmar has gotten me very interested in expanding my pirate forces into individual armies.

As a little background, I played a pirate-themed Dogs of War for many years and added an assortment of scurvy characters from across the warhammer range. Some of these (Empire, Ogres, and Vampire Counts) became full-fledged pirate armies. Others (Dwarves, Dark Elves, and High Elves) were never much more than single units. I also added a good number of ships and other pirate-themed terrain to go with them.

The small skirmish battles of AoS are perfect for taking some of these and making them into small armies of their own. I'm shooting for lists of around 50 points that I can use for demo games, etc. Since I'm currently living and working overseas, at the moment this consists of making some small purchases on ebay or bartertown and working out some lists on paper. I'd like to share the progress of the project here.

Here is an image to illustrate what models and terrain this project is starting with, my combined ogres and empire armies:

Three things:

1. Everything in that picture looks amazing!

2. What's the story with that overgrown alligator in the corner? Did your fleet work for Captain Hook and took Tick Tock off his hands (such as they are)? :-P

3. How are planning to do the small pirate armies? Are they just random mercenary bands that took a liking to the seaways of the realms or are they part of a pirate empire with each army representing a high ranking captain's personal flotilla within the organization?

Really looking forward to hearing more on your project. :smile2:

Always enjoyed your pirates.  I'd like to see those ships up close!  And those buidlings, are they all scratch built, and I don't mean the manor house and observatory.

Looks awesome man! I agree we need close ups :)

Also I can think of some sweet AoS scenarios with that table layout :)

Thanks, all!

The alligator stands in for a stonehorn. I've thought about taking one of those little flasks that came with the old 5th edition state troops and making a pocket watch...

Sadly, I don't have many close up pics at the moment. My mind is full of scenario ideas, though. I have a copy of Legends of the High Seas, and I'm looking forward to running some of those scenarios, too.

Lots of good stuff in there, and I think the sailing rules and scenarios would dovetail well with Age of Sigmar.

Here is the best picture I have of the buildings. They are from the Games of War line of pirate supplies. The trees are from Weapons & Warriors, as are the two smaller ships in the picture above.

Thank you very much!

Looking over the town, and keeping it safe from attack, is the fortress:

Thanks! They are also from Weapons and Warriors. They used to be on the galleon, but were really too big (stuck out above the sides rather than through the gun ports). When I replaced them with others, I found out that they are almost the perfect size for the fortress. Serendipity, I guess.

And for when people need to be able to storm the castle:

I picked these up last spring when there was so much uncertainty about the future of warhammer in the air. Plus, we've played quite a few siege battle using the blood in the badlands rules, and they are a lot of fun.

I concur. I love the wood grain on the old metal models, and on the siege tower (which is plastic) as well. Fun to paint, and pretty easy to get good results.

Here is the first group likely to come knocking on the door of the castle, Sharkbelly and his ogre Pirates.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ogre%20Pirates/P1010577.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ogre%20Pirates/P1010577.jpg.html)

The group also includes a surgeon (counts as a butcher or slaughtermaster). I added a grot orderly to be his helper. Several editions ago, he would have been a sword gnoblar.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ogre%20Pirates/P1010659_zpsa2c02537.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ogre%20Pirates/P1010659_zpsa2c02537.jpg.html)

The firepower for the group is provided by leadbelchers and a counts-as ironblaster.

Here is a closer look at the unit banner, with its gnoblar lookout.

The crew is made up of assorted scalawags, including a cook and a quartermaster. (Two of these have since joined the gunnery crew and one can double as a death wizard.)

This next entry is all about Sea Creatures:

A couple years back, I "borrowed" a Playmobil giant octopus from my kids. I cut it into pieces and glued them onto separate bases. I used contour putty to add some rippling water details.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ships/DSC01871.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ships/DSC01871.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ships/DSC01876.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ships/DSC01876.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ships/DSC01879.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ships/DSC01879.jpg.html)

The finished piece turned out like this:

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ships/DSC01908.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ships/DSC01908.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ships/DSC01909.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ships/DSC01909.jpg.html)

Now last summer, a buddy gave me an extra Kraken he got from the Reaper Bones kickstarter. I've since gotten a Forge World Merwyrm as well. (Did you know that they hunt Kraken?!)

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ships/Kraken_zpstvqnqvmz.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ships/Kraken_zpstvqnqvmz.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ships/Merwyrm_zpsgsaoat1p.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ships/Merwyrm_zpsgsaoat1p.jpg.html)

The Merwyrm will be part of a small Lothern Sea Guard force. How should I base them? And what colors should I use to paint them?

Post by: patsy02 on January 23, 2016, 11:17:18 AM
The merwyrm is a damned fine model. Looks like a shallows or coastal base is appropriate. Will you be using it as a dragon?

Don't know about the Kraken though, it already looks out of place being airborne.
Title: Re: The Friends and Foes of Pirate Admiral Karsten Sturm
Post by: Sharkbelly on January 31, 2016, 02:12:08 AM
I'm leaning toward a coastal base. I plan to use the stats for a beastman ghorgon.
Title: Re: The Friends and Foes of Pirate Admiral Karsten Sturm: Sea Elves
Post by: Sharkbelly on January 31, 2016, 02:29:07 AM
Okay, the Merwyrm is the final piece to a small Sea Guard army that I've been putting together. I've had an eye on these guys since the Storm of Chaos came out. While never large enough to be an army of their own, in Age of Sigmar I think it will make a tidy little 50-wound force. Here's how it all sorts out:

Sea Helm on Skycutter
18 Lothern Sea Guard
Mage w/ annulian crystal
Bolt Thrower (mine is actually converted from leftover bits from the skycutter)
Merwyrm (using the stats for a ghorgon)

Mine are all grey plastic right now, but I'm hoping to start painting them this summer.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Sea%20Guard_zpsvcokmhzu.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Sea%20Guard_zpsvcokmhzu.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Bolt%20Thrower_zpsoxgfydf5.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Bolt%20Thrower_zpsoxgfydf5.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Merwyrm_zpsfzjxunzf.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Merwyrm_zpsfzjxunzf.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Skycutter_zpsdqx38whb.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Skycutter_zpsdqx38whb.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Mage_zpsyr4lbo9e.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Mage_zpsyr4lbo9e.jpg.html)

I've always liked the mage, and I think he fits the aesthetic of the rest of the group well.

The octopus from the kids set looks great!  And I like how it can have it's tentacles removed as casualties. :eusa_clap:

The kraken looks good, and yet it is as if it has been modeled as being under the ocean.  A good pose for such.

The Merwyrm is quite the model!  Wow. :icon_cool:

Yeah, but although I like all the monsters, they were never particularly pushed like 30k, and I never got the impression FW were really into Warhammer, and were only doing a token effort.   This shows just by the fact they've still not released AoS warscrolls for most of those monsters, or the Empire stuff.    And today is the first hint that they're doing anything for AoS, and it looks like a big Khorne deamon, as if the game really needs another big Khorne daemon

Yeah, but AoS has been out for 6 months, where are the rest of the warscrolls?

On the FW blog thing on their site, they've sneak peaked an AoS model that is coming soon, A big Khorne daemon by the look of it.   Like that's needed for AoS.   :icon_rolleyes:

A friend of mine has recerntly emailed FW asking about eh Warscrolls.  Their reply was that they're slowly working on them, but as the warscrolls are free, they are putting their time into stuff that can make them money, and for AoS, they have a couple of books in development.

While I'd probably buy a AoS warscrolls 'Monstrous Arcaum' equivalent,  (my assumption is that what one of those book might be)   I'd like to see a FW AoS campaign, that runs parallel to the main GW one, and they should make it very clear, that you can use FW models in any game of AoS.   Previously with the rules, the monsters could only really be used in Storm of Magic games, which didn't really mean you'd see much use out of them.

There are still some Warhammer Forge World items listed on their site under the W:AoS area.  Including some Imperials like Mananns Blades and Ironsides, although minimal across the board at best.

There's about half to two thirds of what they had at their peak for the Warhammer Forge Range.   That pretty much died before End Times came along.  The Dread Saurian is the most recent fantasy release, and that was 18 months ago?   something like that.  And that was about a year after the previous release of the river hag troll.   Warhammer Forge was dead long before Warhammer itself.

I think it was an obvious death spiral though.  They weren't making anything warhammer players wanted, and warhammer players weren't buying anything they produced.  it's easy to see why they gave up, but it also felt like they didn't really care about WHF, especially in the lean months when big brother when 40k for a quarter.

They also lied about HH not impacting WHF, which it clearly did.  And if they can't be interested in 40k or fantasy, why should we.    It seems FW only love 30k.    I'm glad Specialist Games is being run in the same way as FW, but not by FW.  It will have it's own staff.

They should have actually properly started a separate division for Warhammer Forge, run by new staff then, and not by existing HH/40k players, who clearly didn't understand what WFB players wanted or needed

Well the blokes at FW clearly knew the direction that WFB was heading - into a shallow grave. From buisness perspective they had to concentrate on HH, which is their best product to date. I have a love/hate relationship with the Horus Heresy as a whole, but even I will admit that there are no better models than the ones from the HH range.

The performance of Warhammer Forge is another testimony to GW's philosophy of being a miniature-producing company first and foremost, which carried over to Forge World apparently. FW just produced seemingly random miniatures, which no one asked for. To have official rules for miniatures was very important to the majority of players AND collectors I think, but FW and GW never realized that apparently. Apart from that, most of the sculpts were not that great, so did not appeal to collectors either, which means that the whole thing was somehow doomed from the start.

PS.: I only just realized that I participated in hijacking this thread - I didn't know that there are project logs here too. Sorry for that. Nice army Sharkbelly!  :::cheers:::

No problem.

Next up are the dwarves... er, Duardin. Since the pirates started as a Dogs of War army, it of course had to include Slayer P irates. I tried to go the cheap route and convert them from thunderers, but the results just weren't that great. Finally, when GW released the White Dwarf Pirate, I had to go for the classic slayer pirates.

Also, there is a cannon and crew that goes with them.

It's around 25 wounds; half the size of most of my small pirate armies. I'd like to add some irondrakes, but not sure what else. I've heard rumors of some new Duardin automaton that is set to come our soon...

My plan is to eventually fill out the army with some ironbreakers and irondrakes to be the heavy marines of the force.

After that, I'd like to build a dwarf steamship using the old metal steam tank and one of these Games of War pirate ships.

My next entry is a great example of a small unit that is now growing into its own army. I picked up a box of the dark elf corsairs and Lokhir Fellheart to use as Manflayers in my Dogs of War pirates. (I probably would have picked up the Fleetmaster as well, except that he came out after I was doing painting these guys and had moved on...) Then I added the Kharybdiss when that came out, and a sorceress as well.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/DoW%20Pirates/DSC00909.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/DoW%20Pirates/DSC00909.jpg.html)

The total army now looks like this:

Lokhir Fellheart
Dark Elf Sorceress
10 Corsairs
Kharybdiss and handlers

That's 32 wounds so far. They are all painted, although I seem to have gotten rather erratic with my photography last spring so I don't have pictures. I thought some river trolls would fit in well. (Corsairs like to take slaves, but anyone not fit for that job can be eaten by the trolls.)

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Ogre%20Pirates/DSC02740.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Ogre%20Pirates/DSC02740.jpg.html)

That leaves about five wounds or so left, so I plan to get some Harpies to add in too. I also like the idea of adding a chaos familiar for the sorceress, so I picked up this little guy.

Next up are the undead pirates. This force tops out at over 100 wounds, but can scale down as needed.

It is lead by the Sartosan Vampire Lord on his flying boat (coven throne).
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Undead%20Pirates/CovenThrone.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Undead%20Pirates/CovenThrone.jpg.html)

Here is a close-up of him.
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Undead%20Pirates/DSCN0130.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Undead%20Pirates/DSCN0130.jpg.html)

There are also lots of skeleton crewmen and a vampire boatswain.
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Undead%20Pirates/DSCN0120.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Undead%20Pirates/DSCN0120.jpg.html)

There is a pack of ghouls, the remnant of a group of marooned mutineers who resorted to cannibalism.

And, when necessary, there are ghostly spirits to be summoned.

And now for something completely different. I discovered a youtube channel by a guy who makes very cool scenery for his D&D games. It inspired me to try a project.

I came up with the idea for making a set of dungeon tiles for below my castle.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/image.jpg1_zpsjgcbc4ij.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/image.jpg1_zpsjgcbc4ij.jpg.html)

I wanted the entire thing to be a little less than 4'x4' (the footprint of the castle) and include things like food and water storage, guard rooms, dungeons, etc.

They are made from heavy cardboard. They were then primed, covered in a coat of "make it stone", and then covered in another coat of dark grey primer.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Paints_zpsjryazevb.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Paints_zpsjryazevb.jpg.html)
(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Sprayed_zpsqc3jqpig.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Sprayed_zpsqc3jqpig.jpg.html)

After that, I dry-brushed them with a lighter grey to bring out the texture.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Finished_zpsu0duw3bl.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Finished_zpsu0duw3bl.jpg.html)

Here is the final result, populated with some Descent figures.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/With%20Models_zpsxg3rhjjs.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/With%20Models_zpsxg3rhjjs.jpg.html)

Another quick project from the same youtube channel made up some beds for the troops barracks.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/Bedrolls_zpsltahnun3.jpg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/Bedrolls_zpsltahnun3.jpg.html)

When I get back to the states, I'll bring these with and populate more of the dungeon. I have an old model of the rack and a bid on a 28mm iron maiden to put in the torture chamber...

That's an awesome idea and execution of it! :-D

I like that you went with a barracks as well, when you finish that maybe you should make a ship interior as well. Give them rules for having to fight on a ship that rocking back and forth on the waves with all kinds of obstacles getting in the way. Could be fun.

It's from VTM: Bloodlines. At some point you meet a japanese teenage girl, who's hunting a Rokea, a were-shark. After you help her kill the thing, you can comment that it's good, that this thing did not had any tentacles. :-P

Anyway, the nasty sea critters are really nicely looking. What manufacturer makes these?

The reaper bones stuff, for the most part, has been pretty fantastic. Details are good, shape is good, and really easy to convert. Sometimes they bend a bit but you can fix them real easy with a bit of hot water. (Before their painted anyway.)

That wereshark looks awesome. Look at the abs on it!

Thanks! I based in on the method I used for the old 5th edition lizardmen a LONG time ago.

Over the summer I picked up some spear tips. I'll be working on redoing a bunch of my spearmen (ship's crew armed with boarding pikes) over the next few weeks. Here's the test model:

Ooh, those spearmen are going to look so cool.

Anyway, I guess I'm suffering from writer's block as I couldn't think of anything for Barnacle Bill's story except the cliched cursed treasure angle. So to make up for that (and try to get my drawing inspiration back) I sketched out his origin.

(http://i1377.photobucket.com/albums/ah64/baronn1991/Mobile%20Uploads/1475570061004_zpslzhobdje.jpg) (http://s1377.photobucket.com/user/baronn1991/media/Mobile%20Uploads/1475570061004_zpslzhobdje.jpg.html)

"Captain Bill did not find his fortune on the mouldy decks of that sunken cursed ship. His crewmen turned into scuttling crabs and him only narrowly avoiding the same fate, Captain Bill seeks revenge on the mutinous dog that sent him on that doomed venture..."

(Sorry if not my best work, still recovering from a back injury so had to draw lying down. :-P)

That's right. Now, up next is my small Lothern Sea Guard army:

Sea Helm on Skycutter
Mage w/ annulian crystal
18 Lothern Sea Guard
Bolt Thrower
Merwyrm

All I had time for was this guy, the mage's familiar:

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/image_zps2aylf5un.jpeg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/image_zps2aylf5un.jpeg.html)

I went with a different color on the base than my previous models, and I'm thinking about redoing the others in the same color. It's an acrylic paint from the craft store that is a lot cheaper than model paints.

I added some sharks. First, I bought a Shark TOOB at the toy store.

Then, I made up some bases for them.

Finally, I've started painting up sharks based on pictures I find online.

I ordered one of Frontline Gaming's ocean mats today. They're a little pricey, but are on sale right now. Should be perfect for ship battles.

I've been working on a pirate themed Empire army for YEARS now. I've had to 'reshuffle' it a lot in recent years to get the 'classical' pirate look. NONE of the models wear armour [except for the militia heads which have helmets or the militia 'armoured' arm that came with that kit]. I've nearly finished it. Once I add a couple of ogre's it'll be FINALLY ready

That's some nice woodwork. I have a soft spot for boats and ships. My dad was a master modler as he made all his ships from scrap woods, carving and shaping and working rigging. You can actually put all his ships in a pond and sail them. This is one he's gave me named after my mom. The sails are actually linen soaked out of original blueprint paper he picked up in Great Britain years ago. Almost out of supply now. This is actually a really simple model compared to his 4 and five master models.

Very cool. You can get a lot of pirates in that hull. It looks like you forgo the little side canons for this option.

I decided next to do the sea chariot. It is pulled by a hippocampus and ridden by a marid. Both are from Reaper.

(http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x147/sharkbelly/image_zpsmfrlqxos.jpeg) (http://s187.photobucket.com/user/sharkbelly/media/image_zpsmfrlqxos.jpeg.html)

I base-coated the hippocampus in light blue and then washed with blue ink. For the marid, I base-coated with orange and inked with flesh wash. I'm hoping for a color somthing like coral.

Some great Empire & Mordheim classics indeed!

Trying to guess where the Monk comes from... Mordheim Kislevite with the halberd point cut off?

Also saw that Storm Giant (male) in the earlier post. I've got him on my desk, in Bones plastic. Big problems with the bendy sword, so decided to replace it completely. Is your model plastic, and if so, did you need to bend the sword back into form?

I am pleased to report that all of the models made it safely, even after a three-day, round-the-world trip. Even the bat swarms are in great shape. I love this new case. It's a little smaller than the Crusade, but holds around 75% of what the CC can. Fits easily under the seat on airplanes.

Yup, we use the basic rules with each player running a 5-wound hero. That way it plays a little like an RPG but with faster, simpler combats. We only have around an hour for each session.

It looks like GW are re-releasing rules for older models, cleaned up and without some of the early AoS silliness:

Here you’ll find complete rules for warriors, heroes and monsters from the world-that-was, alongside a brief summary of their background and play style.

We played the next game in the campaign today. The heroes tracked the vampire to his lair. The undead creature was protected by his army of skeletons and a wight king as well as a horde of rats.

The Paladin and Dwarf Lord broke off to take on the wight and some skellies, while one of the Slayers dove into the rat swarms.

The vampire attacked the other heroes. It was a bloody fight, but they defeated him. However, he turned to mist a drifted back into the castle.

With the vampire gone, the Slayers could double-team the rats.

In the end, the heroes know the only way to defeat the Vampire for good would be to go into the castle and find his tomb.

The heroes entered the dungeon. They descended to the throne room and battled ghouls there.

Reinforcements from the storage room and torture chamber joined the fight.

The elf decided to split off on his own.

The heroes reached the vampire's crypt.

The gargoyles animated and defended the vampire.

Finally the heroes defeated the gargoyles and staked the vampire.

I have a gap like that on my Grifhound I'm working on. :(

That's one of the things I always struggled with when it came to scenery. I'm terrible with green stuff so I never want to start painting until all the gaps are filled in, yet I never get around to doing it because I hate working with green stuff.

My buddy meanwhile is sculpting extra fur and hair on every model he can get his hands on, and I can barely make a little tube and stick it in the gaps.

I'm just like that. I always thought they were amazing kits, and see how nicely their painted like here really makes me wish I'd got some. Yet at the same time I remember that I must have half a dozen different scenery kits put aside that I built and never finished painting.

And now for something completely different, as the saying goes. I've begun the process of re-basing some old WOTC Star Wars metal characters that I painted a while back. I've added a little height to each base, and now they will be more consistent with the new Star Wars Legion models. I hope you enjoy them.

The first is the Cerean Jedi. This guy was my character in the Living Force campaign for many years.

Next up is the Human Male Fringer.

Last, for now, is a Warhammer 40K model that I painted up do be a human soldier.

Really nice! I really like those starter kit guys. Did a recent ork army and resurrected 30 of the archers and 30 of the double choppas

I really like those starter models too for a number of reasons.
I converted about 50 of the archer models by cutting off the arrows, keeping the quiver, putting other baggage and equipment on them, doing arm swaps with torches and the random weapons, and made them look like a couple of units of looters. My inspiration was the two metal special models they released way back when - one carrying a pig and a torch, and another with a spear and torch.

The double choppa guys are great too, because 2/4 of them have more armour, which is better than the 1/4 from the plastic multi-pose set, which means they make good 'Big Unz' as they look like they are equipped better.

I've been stockpiling cheaply acquired orcs for WAAAGH! Konrad. Probably half or more of the common boyz are 6th edition starter set ones like those. I'm going to make 100 of them, in 4 units of 25 each, with dual choppas and bows. Archers will get an extra weapon stashed somewhere, while choppa boyz will get bows and quivers slung on the back. All kinds of extra bitz will replace heads and arms here and there to add variety. A few will even have various other looted ranged weapons than bows for the sake of variety.

Oh, man, those are great! I've always wanted to get my hands on these orcs.

Back when I first started checking out all the coolness that Warhammer proved to be [during 6th ed], there was a GW Portugal site. As a brazilian, I've dove in head first there, and there was a translation of a battle report using the 6th ed starter box, with Empire and Orcs duking it out. I recall I was simply astonished by the small narrative and the figurines and the battle schematics, all in Portuguese [except for the unit names, which I think were in Spanish].

That was what swung me hard and deep into Warhammer Fantasy Battles.

Great work on the figures!

Those Tabletop World buildings are ace, I've been really wanting to build a town but given that my army is still blu-tacked together, headless and unpainted in boxes I'm not sure they'd have much use for a town right now... nor do I have the space to keep one!

Also liking the high security feel to these digs, are the walls keeping enemies out or trying to keep the occupant in!?

They could be objective markers! I see the heroes battling the spiders and then having to figure out what to do with the eggs.

The roof is copper. What else would adventurers do with all those copper pieces?

A few more things finished:

These Bloodreavers I started to paint a few years ago but never finished. However, I seem to have misplaced the standard bearer at some point...

These Sisters of slaughter are standing in for Wrathmongers. I was getting tired of the same old Khorne look, so went with something different.

Suspect StD does not mean what it is commonly meant in the health world. :icon_wink:

:icon_lol:  Well that doesn't tell me what StD means in the Warhammer Chaos world.

Then again with the new Slaanesh Chaos creeps coming along, it's possible that there's a similarity. :icon_wink:

They are cool models. And they paint up pretty easily.

Well, I found these two guys. They had gone missing, and they turned up in my minis case of all places. I could swear I had looked there...

Thanks! It's the theme color for my Nurgle models. One chest for each of the chaos factions.

I have finished Gutrot Spume and the Blightkings. I'm not 100% happy, but I'll call them done for now.

Sounds like a punk rock band, perhaps singing a song called, "For Whom the Bell Tolls".

Up next are 10 Chaos Warriors and Lord. I finally got ahold of a can of black primer, so we are in business.
