Very nice. :eusa_clap: I have a question. How do you sculpt mail. What tools and such do you use? The reason i ask is i just started using GS and I'm seeking more experienced knowledge. I read the GW articles on the website but those leave me with problems.

                                                                 Thanks

Hi Mom,

Check out page 6 for an explanation on how I do chain mail. Loot at page 5 for a pic of the saw I use.    One tip though,  you have to make the holes in the mail pretty deep and paint with very thin paint or the detail will be lost in some places.  Its annoying.

If you still have questions about it don't hesitate to ask!

Read through your log and have to say that it is am-a-zing.
You have some remarbale GreenStuff skills and you pull them off quite nicely.

I plan on doing an army which will be the contrary to yours so one with a lot of armour and feathers (though I am not sure of which province I will join).

I will keep an eye on this log.

Yeah I hope to maintain a blog until the next Imperial Guard Codex when I will be distracted by my Steel Legion for some time.

Really?  painting WIP? I wasn't going to do that. But if you want I could. Actualy my painting looks really messy untell i get the last layers on and do all the touching up.  I used colors I dont use very often for certain things and it looked really strange to me at first. I almost started over but i slept on it and now the colors are growing on me....  It should look alright when its done.

OK,  you asked for it.

Nothing is done yet.
I wasnt sure about painting the chainmail this color.  I almost started over with a dark silver but I wanted a white horse and white with  a lot of silver isnt very exciting so I thought about it and went to bed. By the next morning the bronze color had grown on me more....

I think i'm going to paint over the checkerd part near the sword

Wow! Ya see, that's what's so great about observing your painting progress and style. Me? I would never go into the details of purity seals and checkering that early. I'd totally block in all the colors first, then shade, highlight, etc. THEN I'd start on the precision stuff. So yeah, it's nice too see how we can all work towards the same results from such different angles. :biggriin:

I don't usually paint the little things this early either but I wasn't sure about the color of the chain mail so I painted some of the things on it to see how they would look together. Than once I started I didn't want to stop.    I think the colors will look better when the base is done.... I hope.  Right now it looks a little... i don't know ,

I plan on having a lot of yellows, oranges and reds to give the base an Autumn feel.  I think the white and bronze on the horse will look good with that.

Here he is today

I've had a hard time choosing colors for some reason. I think its because I'm not used to having a white horse and bronze barding. Makes it hard to find colors that go well with them i think. For example, one of the reasons the barding is bronze and not silver is to have more contrast withthe white horse. but the color of his robes and the color of the leather straps don't stand out as much now.  Anyway

Suggestions?  Should I keep the robes that color. They do look better IRL but on here they look exacly the same color as the barding.  And what about his gloves.  I dont know how to paint them yet.  Any ideas?

I haven't seen Soju around for a while ... so I will say his line:

"o for owesome"

Really nice. For the gloves ... maybe you could model them into armoured gloves and paint the leather black and the armour silver.

Yeah, real messy Brian
Me? I would never go into the details of purity seals and checkering that early.
I would never go into details like that at all :icon_lol:

I do see what you mean about the colour of the horse and barding. If I were you, I'd replicate the colour of the barding on a random separate piece and drybush that with silver. I think that will look better than a white horse with silver barding, and better than this also. Test it first though!

@ Victor. That is an awsome glove. I dont think I chould make one like that. Thanks for the pic!

@ Obi   I tried what you suggested. It looked ok but It was easier and cleaner to just highlight the robes more and shadow the mail more so thats what I ended up doing. I think they look different enough now. I dont know if it well show in the pics though.  Thanks!

WOW! Not only are your sculpts and conversions fantastic, but the quality of your painting only rounds off a fantastic miniature. The details of the faces make them really expressive.
