DA's wissenlanders (former "Empire general on griffon")
« on: January 27, 2011, 08:26:56 PM »
General of the empire on griffon, hope to paint it soon. I knew from the moment that I saw the IoB HE griffon that I wanted to include on in my (so far  very small) Wissenland army. It was an absolute blast to convert, I hope painting it will prove to be just as fun.

Lovely greenstuff work.
Nordland is really cool. They fight pirates and party on the beach. Sort of like a Disney film.

That general is so cool. I love the barding and that hammer is badass.

I saw this on Warseer and about crapped myself.  Your work is amazing!  Thanks for bringing it over to some truly appreciative Empire generals!

Agreed, I may have to steal that idea for the hammer!  :::cheers:::

Thanks for the responses, really appreciate it! I'm afraid I will not find the time to even start painting it until mid-february, but when I do I plan to paint the general to match my Wissenlanders (grey & white), most of the metal will be silver with a small amount of details in gold, the griffin itself probably a lot like the GW version of the original IoB griffon (minus the leopard specks). In the meantime, here's some pics of my other characters in the army:

Wow, these are some of the coolest conversions I've seen on this site for a while!! :icon_eek:

Love the Griffonrider, great use of that stone pillar and the bit of wall.

The Fire Wizard looks very dynamic and is a nice break from the 'guy with beard' look.

The BSB is solid.

The WP looks like it could come straight from GW. I think it looks much better than the current ones (though I never was a fan of those anyways).

But absolutely the most stunning in his look of simplicity is that last 'random wizard guy', he just oozes character!

Wooooaaaaah , you make my work look like a school child!

Your BSB is simply incredible!

Do you post on CMON?

The best bit about your painting is the depth of the colours, i can see that you use very thin coats ,

well done !

Nice!

I wonder what technics you used for the barding.

Now that's a Warrior Priest I would follow. Never really been a fan of priests, but I think you've just changed my mind.

Seconded what has been already said. You have both excellent kitbash, greenstuff and painting skills. :eusa_clap:
This definitely belongs to CMON.

I like the BSB and the Warrior Priest the most. Maybe the comet on the priest's shoulder is a bit excessive, but still, excellent ideas. Would you mind telling us, where is the priest head from? It looks like plastic greatsword head, but I do not recognise the headress.

Excellent work, keep up.

Thank you mr chumley warner - I popped by your thread, and you're work definitely goes beyound the "school child" level  :-) I don't post on CMON, mainly due to the sub-optimal quality of my photo skills. And yes, thin coats is the way to go, even though it doesn't exactly speeds ut the painting - but the result is well worth it I think.

Nice!

I wonder what technics you used for the barding.

I built it up in stages. First I used a pencil to draw the design of the griffons on the plasticard that's being used as the basis for the barding. I then sculpted what's supposed to resemble scrolls and the body of the griffon. Next, I painstakingly added the letters one by one (and god did I curse myself for attempting his!), added legs, head and tail to the griffon, and lastly the wings starting with the bigger feathers and working my way forward. Then I tried to copy the design on the other side - one hell of a job to make it look even remotely the same (although mirrored). I think I learned a great deal from this, previously my sculpting has been limited to smaller details and gap-filling.

Would you mind telling us, where is the priest head from? It looks like plastic greatsword head, but I do not recognise the headress.

You are quite correct, the circlet is sculpted. Here's a WIP shot:

I love that you also included the baby Griffon on the base of the General on Griffon. That's a nice touch. You have some really nice conversions here. I especially love your fire wizard and the warrior priest's hammer.
