Traveller's Guide to the Mortal Realms
« on: January 04, 2018, 02:19:11 PM »
This new vid from the Malign Portents site, gives a good background to how the realms were formed and how they exist together.

Don't think I've seen anything like this in any of the books before

It's a pretty good video to give an idea on the setting now.

They're finally giving this world some interesting background. Now AoS may really start to shine and feel like a real(ish) world. These videos are truly great.

As far as world building goes, I'm really looking forward to the AoS RPG

Me as well. As everyones been saying it's taken awhile to build the world up a bit, but I like how its looking. Being able to get down even more into an RPG will really make a difference.

Yup, that RPG might be just the breakthrough that AoS needs, in terms of world building.

The world-theory of AoS is interesting. It promises a vast setting compared to the Old World or similar single-planet or single-continent settings. Very good breeding ground for both official revelations and fan factions with lots of character.

Still, they need to start focusing on the setting more than the fighting, and they need to start writing better. Also, I wouldn't object to a more army-style/feel game, whatever bases and formations it might use.

But this is definitely progress!

The question that interests me is if they started with the new models and came up with the setting later, or the other way around. What I've seen actually suggests the former. Which would also echo with the GW mantra of being a model company first.

Hmmm ... it is a different 'world'.  Not sure I like the idea of having flat worlds with edges, and these worlds are lit by two of them rotating while the others just hang there. And there is of course the question of how these 'gates' that allow travel between worlds came into existence and how they might be turned off, destroyed, reignited.  And the idea that Chaos is at the center controlling most of the worlds, not sure I like that.  It is a different 'world'.

The more it grows, the more the Olde World will probably seem to fade.  I can imagine there will be a time when it is a legend.  The thought of this brings mourning.  And I don't mean the kind where a person gets breakfast and coffee and donuts.

The centre isn't the Realm of Chaos.  It's an area known as the the All-points.   Where there are realm gates that can be controlled to go anywhere.   However it has been conquered by Archaon, so is currently controlled by Chaos, but it's not the Chaos Realm

I actually really like how the Olde world is an important legend in this new one. There's places that still remember it, many of the gods still do as well. There's lots of call backs. I enjoy that it's not a straight up new setting, but a future form of the old one.

But most of the old gods are gone, aren't they? Morr, Shallya, Ranald, Ulric? I know that there are more and more throwbacks, which is neato. Good stuff, nice to see AoS getting fleshed out some more.

I havn't heard much about any of the old gods (minus sigmar of course), likely because all the special characters from before have now ascended to be the new gods.

I think I saw something about a group of humans who lived in the realm of beasts that worshiped a wolf god. Sounded suspiciously like Ulrik, but I can't remember where I saw it.
