Topic: Karl Voss first Bolt Action Army list

Hello all,

I’m thinking of getting into Bolt Action. Given my love of WW2 history, and watching a few games played I think I’d enjoy it. Just need to find some people to play against.

My thought it to start with a 500 point Army to keep it simple and expand from there. I know there are a few players lurking about here so I’d thought I’d get some input. I’m thinking of doing an US Airborne Army List to start. My uncle jumped in Normandy, and my other uncle crewed an M4 Sherman until wounded at Anzio. I think it’d be fun to have some things in the Army to be a salute or memoir to them.



Stereotypical choice for a yank? Maybe, but whatever.

Anyway here is my starter list:

HQ
2LT (regular) with M1 Carbine (60pts)
+ 1 Infantry with Rifle

Infantry
Paratrooper Squad - 9 man (Veterans) (140pts)
1 NCO with SMG
1 1919 LMG Gunner
1 LMG Loader
6 Infantry with Rifle

Paratrooper Squad - 9 man (Veterans) (140pts)
1 NCO with SMG
1 1919 LMG Gunner
1 LMG Loader
6 Infantry with Rifle

Teams
60mm Mortar Team - 2 man paratrooper (Veteran) (46pts)

Bazooka Team - 2 man (Regular) (60pts)

Sniper Team - 2 man (Regular) (52pts)

Total: 498

My hope is this will provide a good flexible base Army to start with, and inexpensive to get into. From here I can learn my play style and begin to add some more infantry, spotters, and some tanks. My first addition will probably be an M4 Sherman variant.

Read the rules and wasn’t that interested at first. Seems more focused on commanding. The movement rules seem finicky. I think the bolt action rule set fits my taste better coming out of the warhammer world.

My sense of Bolt Action is that to feels like 40K.  Which if I want to play 40K, then that's what I play.

Now I don't play Americans (I play Japanese) but there are a few things I can say.

Remember that the US is a very mobile faction. If you are playing Airborne, remember that you are already outgunned in some respects.

Keep in mind that you have no real heavy tanks.

Also, if you are playing a game that has some level of historical accuracy, you won't have any tanks at all.

Also buy an AT gun just in case.
