Skipper's Hochland Army
« on: January 17, 2010, 03:32:28 AM »
This thread will become my army's development blog.
Originally, my army was painted to Talabheim colors; however, I decided to re-paint the whites into greens, hence transforming my force into one of Hochland. Specifically, the small mountain town of Koerin, on the southern side of the middle mountains.

Also, this is my first army, and as a result, may not appear the best

Above are the pictures of my completed Great Cannon
(I hope this works )

Nice work, the cut on the drummers face looks awesome. What is the significance of the banner? Also the black undercoat is way glossy...what are you useing?

I can spot a couple of mould lines on the cannon, but other than that it's a good looking army, and the eyes you have painted just great.

Thanks.
I'll make a point to remove the cannon's sprue lines (never saw them...)

Ironfist:

The banner goes with my spearmen, but the decorations on it simply exist to act as a sort of 'ID' for the unit.
The Hochland, representing the state force,
with K as 'Koerin' (the town)
17 as the company #
and I as the first unit of that company

Regarding the glossy primer...
I used to use the good 'ol GW spray. Then, I researched, and decided to use some spray I had lying around (one that a friend had used successfully)

Though is is glossy in the pics, it really is mostly matte in real life.

I apologize for the less-than-decent pictures, but I have been photographing at night due to a busy day schedule.

This is the first half of my army....

more to come!~

I like the dark green that you are using for the Hochland colors.  Wondering what it is :icon_question:

Dark Angels Green basecoat
ink it with Thraka green (doesn't do much though...)
blackline with black ink/badab black
quick overcoat of Dark Angels Green again
drybrush of Catachan green
extreme highlight of 50/50 catachan green/goblin green

though you can forgo the green wash, and super highlights,
as they don't do much

What do you use to do their faces so well? I'm trying to redo most of the faces in my army and could use a bit of advice.  :icon_wink:

-black primer
-Ultra-thing layer of Dwarf flesh (mixes with primer for a very dark skintone)
-Ink it with either flesh wash (the old stuff) or with Gryphonne Sepia.
-Overbrush of Dwarf flesh (lightly!)
-Two overbrushes of Bronzed flesh (old?)
-Highlights of Elf Flesh

layer this stuff to try to avoid a 'yellow' appearance:
remember, these are supposed to look like humans, not legos....
Use the Elf Flesh (or Bleached Bone) sparingly, though more is good for a withered, faint look
Variations in the quantity really matter: try it out first

best

Was at a gaming store last night, and noticed a small, inconspicuous cardboard box. Inside, were a collection of scrap cards, cardboard, and 2002 Warhammer Models! (huh?)

Anyways, inside I found an amazing 2002 Kislev Boyar, a hunk of metal so awesome, I bought it.

I plan to use him as my army general, running with the spearmen.

HOWEVER, I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO PAINT METAL....
Help?

Also, suggestions on how to paint him are greatly appreciated (as always)

now just lemme upload the pictures....

Yes, it's superb. I'm going to 'borrow' some ideas from it, if that's alright...  :biggriin:
after I finish basing my handgunners... I'll make a point to paint up that guy
