God I loved my Chaos Marines...  :(

I still have my dreadnaught but I miss all that hard work I did on their paintjobs!

Oh well, just have to do a better job with my Orks.

My poor Emperors children have been retired.  I don't like not being able to field my sonic weapon armies any more :(

Just reading the new 40k rulebook and I have to say I was supprised.  Most of the rules are clear and explain what to do if things don't quite match up.  The book seems to have been written by someone who has actually played games and knows what kind of confusion and rule bending occurs.

Yah, I think Allesio wrote this one.  All those years of translating badly phrased rules put a bee in his bonnet about getting the wording right.  So far from what I've seen and read it's a very good rulebook

Can't you still take Sonic heavy weapons in the chaos codex?

I can take slaanesh marked squads as elites I think, and they can have sonic weapons.  However my current army has every single model armed with a sonic weapon.  I have a 5 man havoc squad with four blastmasters that is now totally illegal too.  Sure I could use them as normal ones but I do not want to :)

I have six sonic bikes too which I spent ages converting :(

Doing some statshammer with my prefered method, the guestimate on eldar heavy weapons [the origional purpose of this thread]

For the same points I can have two war walkers with a pair of scatter lasers or three with a pair of shuriken cannons.
These two have been earmarked simply because they fill the criteria of being cheap units and throwing down a hail of shots.  Principle opponants to these will be nids and orks, with other choices prefered against other enemies :)

Basically the scatter laser twosome get 16 shots at s6 ap6 36 inch range.  The Shuriken cannon ones get 18 shots, s5 ap5, 24 inch range.  Identical costs.

Vs Orks, they do about the same.  Against the cheapest nids, the shuriken cannon is a better option.

Benifits for Scatts, is that I could add a third and increase the units overall firepower even more.  This is logical, although it goes from 120 to 180 points and is expensive.
Chief benifit for equipping shuriken cannons is individual units are very cheap only 40 points.  It is 50% more for the scatts.  So I get more survivability for my points too, by having extra models.

Another factor in your math that really isn't math however.

Take a gander at the new vehicle damage tables.  You have a lot more survivabilty now for your walkers.  3 walkers are going to stay around a bit longer than they would have a year ago.  Around longer = that many more dead nids n orks.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking Dihenydd.

Im thinking 3 with the cheapest weapons still spew out 18 s5 shots for a measly 120 points.  In any army that is a bargin!
