E-bay buyer beware.
« on: March 12, 2018, 12:05:43 AM »
I've notice recently that there is allot of things on e-bay at very high prices that can still be bought at normal prices from manufacturer.
ie. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WARHAMMER-FROSTGRAVE-AGE-OF-SIGMAR-EMPIRE-BRETONNIAN-MILITIA-SQUIRES-METAL-OOP/132163189553?hash=item1ec58a3b31:g:KRgAAOSwcdRY9gPQ
These are available from Wargames Foundry at £12.00 for pack 7 figures.
These are Mercenaries WA001 Wat/Mat/Nob/Hodge/Piere/Wilkin/Ben and Mercenaries WA002 Wilmot/Perkin/Wyall/Basil/Jack/Simkin/Wyat.

Hoping others will also take this up so we can make people aware of over spending.

If one wants just the mini certainly the Wargames Foundry casts are more economical. However quite a few people also look for the original Citadel castings before they went over to Foundry. The greater risk of old citadel is avoiding recasts.

SOF. I understand there are collectors, but the figures from Foundry are still the original Perry brothers designed miniatures only cast in 2018 instead of 1980's. Just don't want people on this site to get ripped off money wise if they want to make a unit for gaming purpose.
I also noticed that foundry MED314 Feudal artillery crew, is also being broken up to sell as Bretonnian Trebuchet.

Also overpriced.
Games Workshop Arcane Ruins are still available direct from them at £18.00 uk.
Games Workshop Warscyer Citadel direct price £65.00 uk. Seen this as high as £80.00 plus postage.

Try searching for Sisters of Battle - now that really is something.

With GW renaming them 'Sororitas' sellers seem to ignore the fact most of them are still available. There are a few minis that are OOP genuinely, but from GW the basic Sisters are around £4.00 each, and the HQ choices for example can be got for around £6.50 in a pack and yet the medic gal can be anything from £15 - to £35

I suppose Buyer Beware is appropriate - there are idiots who pay the prices. I also wonder about recasts - there is one seller who has had squads of 5 up week after week ................  :closed-eyes:

The idea that the seller is linking these to Frostgrave and W:AoS is by itself deceptive.  And don't think I don't get what their doing, trying to increase the number of folks that might see them, and thus increase the opportunity to buy them.

This is good reason for researching what you're buying, and an excellent idea for a thread, thank you! :::cheers:::

Midaski's post is additional evidence.

There's another person on this side of the pond who floods ebay with "RARE" minis that are still available from a variety of manufacturers, marked up as much as 10x retail price. Never calls them by name, presumably to avoid buyers lookg them up.

I really do hate the people who put OOP in everything, despite half the time it's still being sold and for half the price.

Right here we go again.
Games Workshop Baleful Realmgates still in production £35.00 for the pair. Not £45.00 to £56.00 on e-bay.

Also don't be had by people selling the old boxed Skullvane Manse at very silly prices. Only thing that's changed is the box, the model of the Warscryer Citadel is the same model as the Manse.

That's simply because aos ruins everything. So Warhammer box is more valued.

There really are collectors who want the box. Not to say all who pay the price are such collectors. But still, that cardboard box and print picture and naming and font has value of its own. For some.

My local store has a side business selling just the empty boxes and packaging. Even the empty blister cases. It's not amazing money, but it's more then you'd think it would be.

The epitome of present day liberal consumer capitalism: selling empty packaging.

I am not being facetious here, nor attempting any sort of jibe, but Fidelis, why did you insert the word liberal into that comment?

If anything, it's a conservative wet dream: entrepreneurs making money by supplying a market demand, no matter how stupid, for what is essentially a marketing waste product.

If it was some sort of liberal scheme, it would be government mandated, biodegradable, gender neutral packaging banned from depicting any scenes of violence, and not very collectible among the wargaming crowd to begin with.

 :::cheers:::

Really, it's just that eBay is well beyond logic.

You are confusing economic or neo-liberalism with conservatism. Quod non.

Honestly, I myself always suspected that the people buying the empty blisters and stuff are doing it to repackage copies or recasts. I know some people buy the old boxes for the art, but why else would they want the empty packaging?

Some people display them. There are a couple of guys on the Oldhammer FB group who are trying to make their basement game-rooms look like old gaming stores.

I remember even one of our friends here looking for old packaging. Because when you stockpile old figures, why not in their original boxes. IIRC that was his reason.
