Your mention of halberds reminded me of this recent new product from Fireforge.

One of three types

http://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=124&cat=499&page=1

They have had the spears out for a while and I bought some over a year ago. For conversions I find them much easier than bendy metal weapons, especially with plastic figures.
Just a thought.

Those look useful enough, especially together with metal pikemen figures that are usually sold open-handed, with separate pikes made out of steel wire.

I'd expect though any of us 6th edition grognards to have a boatload of excess halberd heads left over from the Soldiers of the Empire plastic box. I don't imagine I'll ever run out of those, even with 80 halberdiers in the pipeline.
The only good thing about 7th ed heads is that they look particularly inbred and superstitious which is perfect for Stirlanders

Speaking of halberdiers, I did some theorycrafting and realized I want some, so I moved that initiative up a bit. The miniatures are a mix of Warlord, Artizan and Foundry Landsknecht Pikemen, sold with separate wire pikes that I cut down to size, filed out a suitable contact surface of, and attached a 6th edition halberd head to.

I originally thought I'd make four units of 20 each as T9A support units, but then I realized I might on other occasions use them as parent units, so I'll make at least two of them 25 models strong.

Did a little test how such halberdiers rank up:

Makes it somewhat visually plausible that they can (situationally) fight in three ranks in T9A

Do consider getting the Artizan and Foundry pikemen too. The three kinds mix together very well, and provide a good increase in model variety. Looking at my unit now, I can't remember or tell at a glance which models are from which companies, they blend together that well.

And a bonus picture of the middle third ranker, for Zygmund who likes to convert this particular unipose 6e handgunner:

These crossbowmen are brilliant! I'd definitely be inspired by these when I modify my militamen in this way to state troops... 'someday'!

Also these ones look together very well  :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: :eusa_clap: I have in mind too (not short term I'm afraid) a mixed unit of Artizan, Foundry an Warlord pikemen as Marienburgers in my Empire confederal army.

The halberdier unit has been assembled and ranked up. Low quality photo, but it should showcase the arrangement:

A shot from the rear to show how I've staggered them:

Next up, a standard for the standard bearer. I have a bunch of 6e command sprue banners broken from their poles, I'll make a new pole for one and hoist the banner onto it.

It's been a while. What can I say? Creative inspiration comes in random flashes. Anyways, now the above halberdiers have finally been painted.
