What Miniature Games Are You Playing in 2017?
« on: June 09, 2017, 12:38:55 PM »
Suspect many of us aren't playing as many miniature games as we'd prefer, but I'm wondering what we are playing for miniature games this year.

As for me ... I've played the following ...

Lion Rampant ... 4 games
Chain of Command ... 1
Carnage & Glory ... 1
En Garde ... 1
Saga ... 1

The usual Mordheim, or perhaps it is unusual as we are really playing Mordheim... not Mordhiem pirates or araby or Big Toof.

http://boringmordheimforum.forumieren.com/t8809-another-winter-in-mordheim

Number of games is down as we are dealing with lots of new players.

1 game of Kings of War.
1 game session with kids, maybe something between WHQuest and KoW, but very rules light. :)
Half a dozen roleplaying sessions, one or two with figures on the board.
1 test session of a strategy game with borrowed wooden tokens. We intend to find & paint fitting figures for the factions.

And then there's one evening in the local club. I didn't play anything, but talked hours of T9A, AoS, some English Civil War game, and painting. Could have played any one game right there, but decided to split my time watching all three. I like watching games played by others!

Two bursts of painting early in the year. Now no time, it seems.

A lot actually. The death of fantasy 8th really caused everything else to blossom around here.

I've had;
- multiple games of 40k, + a whole store wide narrative campaign.
- A frostgrave campaign that so far has been 4 games.
- Lots of AoS, although generally casual/experimental games.
- Several matches of a game called Muskets and Tomahawks (I think). it's a historical miniatures game set around the French & Indian war.
- 3 games of Kings of war. (Not hugely catching my interest)
- 3 games of 9th edition. (Also not hugely catching my interest, but not the games fault.)
- Several 'battles' for a local D&D campaign that used a homebrew miniatures rules, and warhammer models.
- Several dozen one of games for a variety of other systems to see what their like.

**

My local game store has people that play pretty much everything. My buddy and I are debating starting X wing as well, although I'm not sure I can afford more models on top of everything else I'm doing. Might just borrow other friends things to get started.

I've also been painting more then I thought I would.

The past couple of years have actually been pretty slow for me. Several good friends moved or dropped out of the hobby, I ended up moving, a local store closed, etc. 2017 however (and the very last few months of 2016) have been the best in a long time. Mostly because other stuff settled down and I was able to put more time into it. Another thing that hugely helped in a friend who lives fairly far away started going to school a block away from the local store, so he'd bring his stuff and we'd hang out there during breaks or afterwards.

So all in all 2017 has actually been one of the best miniature years for me in a long time.

One game of 8th ed WFB, campaign lists, for my Tilean Campaign. One measly game. Mad, isn't it? Yet with all the painting and pictures and stories, etc, the campaign is part of nearly every day! Crazy, isn't it?
Photobucket has now re-destroyed my pictures, so the first half of my collected works thread is no longer working again. To see my website version of the campaign thread, with fully functioning pictures, please go to https://bigsmallworlds.com/

I got in another game of Lion Rampant yesterday.

We played using two Late English 24 point lists to represent Wars of the Roses armies, and we had a good time.

One game of Circus Maximus and a few turns of a WWII air combat game.

Still only this and it's discouraging. Was going to sign up to host a game at a local event/convention, but decided not to since I've had to cancel on just about every other gaming plan this year. (I don't want to do that to a paid event that's paying for a venue, etc.) I think I've got one or two more possible chances for gaming in 2017, and if those fall through I'm seriously ready to throw in the towel.

Regular games of Xwing.

I advise this game to all of you with less time on their hands.

No painting, easy rules, quick gameplay. Easy to fit in a game now and again.

Update:

2 games of Kings of War
2 games of The 9th Age
2 game/play session with kids, rules lite
1 test session of a strategy game with miniatures as tokens

My main hobby is roleplaying, no miniatures involved.

The past two years, I've gamed with miniatures roughly eight times per year. Looks like this year will be normal in that regard, unless the kids get really wild & demanding.

It's been a bit of a rough year. Moving, health issues, deaths in the family and what not, but I've still got a good number of games in. I posted back in June already, but here's what I've had since then;

6-10 games of 40k. A lot of them were very small scale training matches, but still a good time was had.
3 games of Aos.
2 games of Fantasy 8th.
4 games of frostgrave.
A few trial games of X wing, Kings of war, two homebrew games, the star trek version of X wing (Armada? Or is that the bigger scale star wars?), and possibly a few others.

The vast majority of my hobbying is also roleplay. I've been involved in a good number of different online campaigns. They generally don't involve miniatures themselves, but for a few I've usually painted up some models to represent characters and what not. I've also really doubled down on painting. It's been a part of the hobby that I've always put off. I love doing it, but I have a pretty low opinion of my own abilities when it comes to painting, so I always procrastinate. For the past year or so I've made an oath to myself not to get anymore until I paint stuff, and to really paint through my back log.

Turns out that like everything else, you get better with practice. I still think my painting skills are horrible, but I'm prepared to say their not as bad as they use to be.

I really have a low opinion of my painting too. Always have but I keep trying. As to the backlog. I hear ya! I have a skaven battalion, shadow warriors, 3 flaggellants boxes, 5 droppods, another space wolf battalion, city of death box, trenches and a crapload of individuals
Kicking around plus a couple of armies to redo. I'm not buying anymore (he says after just recently buying a box of skaven/beastmen off of Konrad, and 20 battle master beastmen off of eBay and an excelsior priest from the store!!!)  Nope, not buying anything more lol.
