I hate to say it, but I didn't like them. Something about the tone just seemed... off to me.
Which ones? Hedge Knight or Ice and Fire?

No I am a soft and cuddly teddy bear, most of the time I sit silent in one corner and move forwards and backwards while hugging myself.

To not expand at all, there was something about the way he told Hedge Knight that didn't strike the same note as the rest of the series with me, for whatever reason. I don't know why.

I bought the first song of ice and fire book at the train station yesterday. I am quite enjoying it so far, though it doesn't seem worth all the hype.

Exactly what I expected, in fact.

I liked the first one the most and was a bit dissapointed by the last.

I am going through the cast and the name of the actor of Gregor Clegane is Conan....so what more do I need to know? Nothing.

The 4th was lacking the (IMO) two best characters, Jon and Daenyrs, so of course it wasn't as good...

Is it full of political intruige and everyone wanting to kill everyone?

I might read it if it's like that.

That pretty much defines the series.

Also, there's not really a bad guy. Everyone is equal parts bad and good guy (for me at least).

With some notable exceptions. But yeah, what is really nice is that the "bad guys" have believable motivations as well, and some of those "bad guys" even become view point characters later on and become surprisingly likeable.

Except for the certain brother of someone who does something utterly disgusting. He's never likeable. Ever.

Edit: Nor did his motivations make sense to me was the original point of that.

That certain brother is simply a sociopathic sadist. And he has ample opportunity to indulge his urges.

Are we talking about that BIG brother?

I've read about a quarter of the first book, and it's already like that. I quite like it.

It's quite low on annoying fantasy things too.

Nice eh? No prancing elves. No lowly peasant boy who turns into the ultimate hero. No spells fired of at machinegun fire rate. That was one of the things I really liked with the first book.

Unfortunately the more fantastical elements do increase in number as the books go on, which I thought was a pity as the story was strong enough on its own IMO, but it doesn't become truly irritating though.

There WAS magic, the legends tell about it, Dragons, spellslingers, magical swords....well the magical swords are still around but rare as hell. The rest of the stuff are stories you tell the little ones.

IF Tnumbers is talking of Jamie, well I have to rephrase my favorite characters are

Tyrion, Jamie, The Hound, well I like Eddard Stark too.

Which are things that also exist in our own legends, doesn't mean they need to turn out to be real either.

This is a thing I liked in the series too the low fantasy, leaves room for real political backstabbing, with arch mages and people able to revive the poisoned king this somehow seldon makes sense.
