Ranged core
« on: July 04, 2013, 04:38:59 AM »
Hey guys, just had a thought, I've been running my ranged troops (i.e. handgunners/ crossbowmen) as 5x2, however I do have 20 of each. What would be better running two 5x2 of each type or one 10x2? How do you guys use them?

Mine are typically 5x2, but unfortunatley thats mainly because that's how they look best on the shelf :)

I would be doing 5x2 if you use them as it gives you another deployment. You only lose half the points if something makes combat with them. You can also either split fire or target the same thing typically.
The main downside I see is more panic tests required from loss of troops to shooting.

If you have 20, have you considered 5*2 deployment with 2 5 man detachments?

Or even a 10*2 with 2 10 man detachments?

The advantage of this is you can put in a ruby ring priest to a) spit out fireballs and b) buff the unit+ detachments with flaming attacks to shoot at regen targets. The priest also makes the formation tough enough to fight off hard chaff!
