What Board Games Are You Playing in 2021?
« on: February 01, 2021, 01:51:02 PM »
Will there be any board gaming in 2021?

I am hoping to at least get in one solitaire game.  I've set up a board game, "Braccio da Montone", Italian mercenary warfare in the early 1400's.

Now I just need to start it. :icon_lol:

Starting to slowly teach my son Chess and Checkers.
And also this other game, called Cathedral which is simple, fun and texturally nice (the wooden buildings are really nice).

I am actually working on my own board game, tentatively called Wicked Tower for now. :D

How was Machiavelli :icon_question:

It is a really really good game with heaps of replayability (in the deluxe version that has both expasion in it also), every game is different, but it loses it charme at 2-3 players I would not recommend playing it with less then 4 players.

Good to know.  I saw a copy on sale the other day.  Think I'll go pick it up the next time I get to that store.

Machiavelli is pretty good but that witch character can go  ::heretic:: ::heretic:: ::heretic:: ::heretic:: ::heretic:: itself. Seriously, I hate effects like that.

Rummikub

Can now add:
Skip-bo - a card game where you need to get rid of your "stok" of 30 cards (1 to 12 and a joker card called skip-bo) by adding them to build up piles (max 4 of them) starting at 1

Bring out yer dead - a game where you need to bury your family in the best places of the cemetery but need to watch out for the gravediggers cart, coz when you overbid on the places on the cart your coffin might end up in the river, really fun game

and forgot to add a few small games:
Qwixx
Beverbende

The copy of Machiavelli had already been sold.  Oh well ... I'll keep an eye out for another.

In the meantime ... my copy of the new edition of War & Peace has arrived via postal service today!  And it looks awesome.  The mpa is huge and colored.  My family owned the original version released by Avalon Hill back in the day.  I loved it then, and can't wait to get the board set up on a table and start running through a scenario or something at some point.

Yes! :icon_biggrin: :icon_cool: :icon_mrgreen: :::cheers:::

Can add "De vergeten stad" (The lost City by White Goblin Games) a coop game to find a lost airship to save the group from a sandstorm

Closing out 2021 ...

Well I didn't get in a solitaire board game in 2021, but I have "Braccio da Montone" set up in my hobby room, yet then never touched it.

However, got in 6 games of Azul and 1 game of Concordia.

Azul is ... more of a tile laying game, sort of along the lines of other piece games, and played on multiple boards, one per player.

Concordia is ... sort of a mercantile trading game based in the ancient world of Roman conquest.

On to 2022! :icon_cool: :::cheers:::

We played Azul and one of its variants as well! (Plus also Splendor, Settlers of Catan, and I managed to get a game of Western Legends in with my son)
