Fifth edition skaven army
« on: June 08, 2020, 09:24:41 PM »
Hey,
New here and to warhammer fifth in general.
I have a bunch of skaven models I bought of eBay consisting of:
Whilst my mate is getting to grips with the rules, I’d like to know what army I could build from this lot whilst I wait for the army book.
I have no idea what would be legal or the point costs.

1x lord mini with 2 hand weapons
1x engineer with a gun
1x packmaster with s prodding stock

20 clsnrats with champ, musician and standard mixed weapons
20 clanrats with champ, musician and standard mixed weapons
20 storm vermin with halberds with champ, musician and standard
3 rat ogres
Doomwheel
Cannon unit
Flame thrower unit
Potentially some plague monks on their way which I’m undecided how to assemble.

Cheers

I would guess most here would be new to the 5th edition, since it so old we only know it from hearsay. I am an old fart, and started with the 6th edition, when it was on its last legs.
It is not enough to have no ideas of your own; you must also be incapable of expressing them.

Not sure anyone is playing 5th edition anymore.  Are those the only rule edition that you have access?

Recommend perhaps seeking 6th, 7th, or 8th.  Each of those is still being played by some folks in some places.

Although I have the 7th edition starter set, a few extra Skaven on the side, and even a 7th edition Skaven book, I have not played them.  Don't have enough knowledge to help, but someone else here might.

Welcome to W-E! :::cheers:::

As I recall, 5th edition composition rules were fairly loose.
Up to 50% could be spent on characters. I believe you need 25% spent on units.
Up to 25% war machines, 25% on monsters, 25% allies and mercenaries.
Some armybooks changed the ratio’s - e.g. Bretonnians made it at least 25% knights, and up to 75% characters. Not sure what The Skaven breakdown variation was, if any.

The armylist you posted looks like it would probably work - just need to check clanrats and stormvermin (maybe plaguemonks too) add up to at least 25%.
