"Painted" Empire Characters
« on: November 19, 2007, 07:53:15 PM »
A few weeks ago, Reiniger posted some awesome drawn pictures of Empire characters.  He agreed to e-mail them to me so that I could use them in my Photoshop class (I'm a high school teacher).  I gave the assignment to David, a 12th grader in my class. He set out to "redraw" the images...eliminating the hand-drawn lines and replacing them with digital lines.  After he created this template, he used Photoshop to color and render the image.  In all, I think it took him 4-5 weeks of class time to get this done...or since whenever Reiniger  posted the original images.

The original sketch:

The template:

David's colored version:

I am very pleased with these and David's attention to detail is remarkable for a guy his age.

I'm going to direct David to this thread, so please feel free to give him any comments you may have.

Good lord! Those are great! :eusa_clap: I will comment that the facial features of colored version seem a lot less intimidating than the original, but i suppose that's a limitation in shading and such. The rest of the colors are fabulous.

Thanks, I'm sure that he'll want to go back in and re-visit the face after seeing that.

Kaw!  Those are cool!

I'm sure the roses and garilc will help to keep the undead away, but watch out for wood elves and halflings  :-D

Thats remarkable.

The technical work here is awesome. Great highlights and lowlights. Good colour gradiation.

Lets be honest it was never a stern face by a long shot but it did lose something in the translation. Those "Wrinkles" under the eyes are needed imo.

Now for a personal taste thing.
The colours are too friendly for the subject matter. This is a guy that a woman would gladly walk up to and hug.

I tried to find a picture with similar colours but where their use was darker and more intimidating.
I came up with this image from the game under development "Warhammer online"

Its a pretty big image so only follow link if prepared to wait :)
